Out of all the add-ons I've purchased for my truck for full-time Overlanding, the side awning has been one of my favorite products. Here is a short video showing the process of setting up and breaking down the ARB Awning 2500. I chose a day where the weather wasn't great to show you can still pitch this awning with ease. The winds were 20mph coming from every direction which had a little bit of an impact on the audio quality so I apologize if it's hard to hear me at times. To see my full truck buildout, please check out my blog post at coloradobackcountryadventures..... Thanks for watching!
This guy's real. A lot of vids on here show trucks with thousands of dollars worth of gear. This is a lot more realistic and doable for the average person. Keep up the great work!
For rain, collapsible paint pole with a tennis ball on top,
Why not just slope it downward?
Works like a charm :)
This is EXTREMELY useful information. I'm considering using my truck for camping when I get itchy feet. Your videos have been a Godsend. Thank you!
Thank you for watching Debra! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to shoot me a message at Brian@ColoradoBackcountryAdventures.com. Have a great day!
This awning is amazing. I didn't even know these were available. Thank you for showing us how easy it is.
Just put mine on my 4Runner in the rain... The weather hates me. Ended up removing the entire factory roof rack, installing the awning, and reinstalling the rack. Got it on, and realized I had no idea how to deploy it. This is a great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video! I just installed the 2500 on my van. I really like it and look forward to adding on the room that attaches to be used like a tent. Take care.
I was told by the store to just drop one corner a bit in rainy weather. This prevents the buildup of water in the centre and controls where the water goes
We are very pleased with ours. We got the one with the LED light strip sewn across the bottom of the canopy half way out. It works very well. Ours is mounted on the side of an ARB Base Rack with ARB quick release mounts. Makes it a quick one person job to remove the awning from the vehicle when you get home. ARB gear is a little pricey but well worth it. The quality of both design and manufacture is impressive.
Great video! I installed the 2000 series to my Tacoma today. Naturally I struggled getting it set up the first time. Which is why I came here. To learn how to do it correctly. I did! Thank you! I didn't open the horizontal arms fist. I unrolled the awning and dropped the vertical legs. Mistake. Next time I'll do it correctly.
I'm definitely getting the deluxe room. I have a Gazelle tent for sleeping but the room will be nice for lounging or cooking/eating when the weather is bad.
Thanks again! 👍🏼
those arb awnings are great, I used mine last week when a short rain storm rolled through our camping spot. I have the 6 foot one on my Tacoma. I wish I had gotten the 8 foot one after watching this. I plan on getting the attachable room for it.
Made me convinced and I have just ordered one for my defender.
Great video! I love the ARB awnings design. Just picked up one of the short 4'x8' 1250s to hang off of the rear of my truck since I'm always using my tailgate as a workbench. I plan on getting one of the 2000 series for the side at some point as well.
Sup B?! Just installed the 2000 today. Will hit you up with pics.
Excellent quality video!
Thank you!
great review. Thank you
I subbed after watching this video. what a cool set up for fishing from the bank close to the truck.
Thanks Dirka13, and Happy New Year!
when it rains, just drop one of the legs and the rain will roll off that side.
Ayyyy! Smart.
Sam Karr Yep! That's what we do with our RV awning. Works great!
That is badass thanks for the video
Thanks for the video. I just set mine up today and gotta tell ya, you make it look easy. Setting it up by yourself can be a little tricky. Makes me wish I had 8 foot long arms. Hopefully I'll get a little more proficient lol
Thanks friend for your videos
First video I watched. I like how your truck is setup.
Thank you, David!
Nice video Brian. Pretty easy set up and take down. Not a bad price either. Easily affordable. Thanks.
Thanks Deeann! These things are pretty durable too. I've used mine almost daily now for a full season and it shows no wear and tear. I'm impressed and definitely recommend awnings to anyone who is interested in having a covered area at camp.
Nice video!
Good video 👍
Looks awesome! Iv been looking for something like this for my truck I’ll have to have a look at getting one
Great video! Just came across your channel looking for awnings for my new van, Im a new sub :) Thanks for sharing, safe travels my friend
Thanks for your pratical video
Nice setup. Do you have instructions on how you hooked this up to your Yakima crossbars?
Do you think you could do a video about your truck specifically? Talk about the aftermarket stuff you’ve done to it? Super interested in the front bumper
Hi nice vide. Im getting the same one. How many mounting points do you have. Is it mounted to a roof rack or just the shell rack?
Nice looking tacoma also. I have a 14 tundra
Hey Brian - just curious on your decision to install your awning on driver side vs passenger side? Any particular advantage to you? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks !
Love the channel Brian. I am transitioning to a similar lifestyle right now. Can you think of a way the awning setup would work with a hi-liner camper shell? Given the height discrepancy between the truck cabin and shell. I would like to have the same size awning (2500). Any advice would be much appreciated from you or from anyone else with thoughts.
great vid
And based on your mounting comments, this remains attached full time?
some complain of wind issues unless tie downs are out at 45 degrees and even then maybe an issue...
maybe double corner tie downs straight out and at 45
noise level on roof?
Great video. I have been looking into getting an ARB room tent. But it will not fit on our TJM 2.5 meter awning - it is 6" too short. :( So after watching our video time to hand down the TJM awning to our son and get the ARB setup.
Awesome
Do you bump the awning when it’s packed away when you’re opening either front or rear door on that side? Looks like it droops a bit low when in its bag
Nice video and helpful........am interested in how you mounted on your truck
CBA, I would like to know how you attached the awning to your truck. I have a E-150 and wonder if I could clamp to the rain gutter? Hmmm? Nice videos!
Once you do the install, is it easy to take this awning off. I'd like to get something like this but don't want it on when I'm not camping.
What suspension you running brotha? I would love to be able to go put and explore more. Army has me tied down a little right now. haha
I have a 4x4 but I’m considering switching to a pickup truck like that. One thing about pickups is that the bed and the cabin tend to be more flexible and thus not always aligned. Did you have special attention to that when installing it to account for the torsion?
Do you have any videos on installation and the breakes you used?
Nice truck. What your truck the short bed?
Did you have to train your dog about the poles and guy wires? To avoid running into them?
I love my ARB awning. But no matter how careful I am, I always have a difficult time rolling it up evenly, without the awning going too far to one side or the other.
Is it mage to keep mounted long term? Does it hold up in the sun day after day when not in use?
your videos are the most practical and useful. thanks for taking the time!
one question, what kind of mileage do you get on a set of those tires?
I get 16 in the city and 18 on the freeway.
Hi Brian...I know it's been 3 years from your post but was wondering did you have any issues with your awning connected to your cab and shell? The bed..shell moves independently from the cab.
I've been wondering the same thing
Thanks for the vid. I just bought one and I’m a little concerned about while unrolling it, having those arms cantilevered out with no support. You guys have found their plenty strong to be hanging out unsupported? Thanks!
I've found them to pretty strong over the years and they are pretty cheap to replace from ARB (I think somewhere between $20-$30). I always guy line the awning to stake off on the ground since wind can kick up at a moments notice...had the awning be a sail once so I learned my lesson. I am still using the awning to this day (I think this video was recorded 4 years ago) and although the arm poles do sag a bit they are extended out, they still work great.
@@OffGridBackcountryAdventures That's great info buddy, thank you very much!!!! Yea, when I first swung out those arms I was like... these are gonna snap right off! But watching more videos and your response tells me they are more durable than they appear. Thanks again dude.
In rain I simply lower the front legs a few inches to give me a slight slope away from my Jeep.
Can you dip one of the corners to drain off the rain water? Have seen several RV'ers do that in the past
Hi InjunOne - yes, you can adjust the poles to any height you'd like to help create a draining effect in the event of heavy rain or snow.
Have you had trouble with flex between the cab rack and the topper rack damaging or bending any of the awning mounting components? I was told by a rack manufacturer explicitly not to do this.
I need the answer to this too
I was told the same by FrontRunner. I have a 6.5' awning mounted on my rear rack. i had to build spacers to move the awning out from the rack because when I was offroading, my bed flexed enough that the awning was smacking the side of my front rack. I definitely wouldn't attach anything on both front and rear roof racks on a tacoma if you're planning on going offroad.
Great vids man. What brand of jacket is that?

Great videos Brian, my brother and i gifted our parents the ARB Awning that you have for there 2004 toyota 4runner. I would like to ask you how to secure the awning from being stolen when my parents go out for a hikes? and leave the car on the trail head.
Thank you for your time.
Hello, I've not had any issues with folks trying to steal the awning. It would take quite a bit of effort for someone to dismantle the mounting brackets in order to take the awning off your roof rack so I think you'll be okay.
Their not worried someone stealing their 4x4 instead lol
Has anyone found/seen any videos on the newer 2500 version with aluminum case and led light?
What size did you get?
How long are the legs. I am thinking about putting one on my Ford Transit Medium roof
Hello, the legs are fully adjustable from about 3.5 feet to 7 feet. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for tuning in to my channel! Have a great start to your weekend.
Thanks. Mounting height on transit would be a t 8' 6". That should work and have a nice slope for shedding rain
how did you mount them?
awesome... looks really easy to setup..... I didn't see info info for where we can buy one.... I am interested
Here is the link on ARB's website and you can use this site to find a local dealer in your area. store.arbusa.com/ARB-Awning-2500-814101-P3653.aspx

Rain will pour in between the awning and truck in that gap!!!
Does it come with mounting hardware?
Hi John, no this doesn't come with mounting hardware. I ended up using the ARB Mounting Brackets which I purchased for $15 and then I anchored the brackets to my roof rack. Works really well and I've not had any issues with the awning coming loose from the mounting hardware.
Too bad the links don’t work It would be nice to see how it attaches to the truck
ypu should of got the foxwing awning- more coverage
Except that I think $1200 for an awning is absolutely ridiculous so I won't ever be getting a foxwing.
