I don't know if Bebop did it in or what, but the really good jazz got taken over by technical displays of "See? I can play really fast," without much attempt to be pleasing to the ear. Or "See? We can be discordant in the same way, over and over and for extended periods. Just so you know we're doing it on purpose, that makes it art." This is pretty good stuff.

This is pretty good stuff.
For me, this era of the Dave Brubeck Quartet was a friendly doorway to real jazz. This whole era of jazz was great. Real cool man.
