History:
The Saratoga County Homestead opened on December 5, 1914, to treat patients with tuberculosis. In the beginning, the homestead could accommodate and treat twenty-four patients. As the cases of tuberculosis in New York State increased, the homestead would undergo a massive expansion in 1936. Its wooden structure being replaced by brick, embellished with decorative moldings, marble columns, and large windows and solariums to circulate the fresh mountain air that was thought essential to the treatment process. The last patients left in August of 1960 and it became the county infirmary in January of 1961. It would treat geriatric patients until 1973 when it closed for good.
Nearly 50 years after its closing the homestead is now under new ownership. Small renovations have started so that tours are allowed on the property, with the end goal of building veterans retreat on the 28.61 acres of land. The new owner allows photography tours and ghost tours of the property, please contact the Haunted Nights Events Facebook page for more information on these tours. The homestead will also be featured in Destination Fear on Travel Channel, the episode will air on October 24th, 2020.

This building is massive. I hope that it is come to a good end. Such a historical is too interesting and should be saved.
I'm here because of "Destination Fear" and the recent episode. It's one of the wildest episodes I have ever seen. And now, well I'm fascinated with this building. And wanted to know more about the history.
It was an amazing episode!! Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate the support!!
@@TheSneakysExplore Oh it was indeed. And you're more than welcome.
Exploring with Josh brought me here, I wish I had found this channel sooner!
Thank you for the support!! 🙏🙏

Ooo on Halloween too, its gonna be sick!!!
Captain Mike's Extreme Hydro Flight Travel Channel Destination Fear TV Experience was right before the Destination Fear Cast went to check out this place...
We were the exciting opening segment of TRAVEL CHANNEL Season 2 Episode 8 titled "Saratoga County Homestead".
We had some fresh banners made up for the show which we staged on our Bimini tops of our 2 pontoon boats so the drones always had our logo in frame.
In the first quick segment, our back drop included our main boat and waverunners in the water and on the trailer, as well as our kayaks, paddleboards, water skis and wakeboards.
The cast arrived around 5pm and we flew the 4 cast members from 6pm to 8pm.
The Travel Channel production crew surprisingly went with every shot I had suggested including a reordering of the overall shoot due to time constraints and getting the best light for our production.
As my boat Captains set up our 4 person towable tube for the final shoot, I recommended a camera person set up on the main boat and act as the spotter and take direct film of the towable tubing.
I suggested Captain Marta act as my throttle person and for me [Captain Mike] to fly while they were being towed by our main boat with our second camera and audio boat trailed behind off camera.
The cast did towable tubing and I flew until the Sun was setting around 8:30 pm and the cast took a short private cruise back to the marina while the camera man was able to do some more filming of the group.

Captain Mike, Owner
I did see that on the episode, it looked really fun. Maybe you will see us there next summer!! :)
I've been there about 15 times, one night we were scaring the crap out of a bunch of kids it was a blast. One of my friends played Santa for the kids back in the day
Is there a way to speak with the owner or groundskeeper to get in without getting arrested? Thanks❤️
@@Ms.Norths.Musings he does tours I guess, maybe look up Saratoga homestead they might have some info kicking around
@@cbr600rrturbo I did look it up but did not see anything. Not a single thing. I know it went back on the market in July. I am checking around though. If you hear of a contact please tag me and forward to me ok? Thanks so much❤️ If it were just me it would not be a big deal but my son is 20 and I really don't want to get him arrested you know? Lol. Anyways thanks.
@@Ms.Norths.Musings I live about 7 miles away I'll see what I can find out, I'll let ya know
@@cbr600rrturbo Thank you!

I only found out about this channel because i seen your name spraypainted on a video from exploring with josh
Lmao it was chalked on a chalkboard, thanks for stopping 🤙
Its been about 10-12 years since I've been there. Very thankful I didn't fall through the roof one of the nights lol
That was about the first time we went there ourselves :D, thankful that they are taking the time to fix it up for future explorers
@@TheSneakysExplore I do recall meeting up with a few folks that were inside with a camera lol We actually seen a face in the ice too that night..
The centre building You refer to as a chapel was actually a World War II spotting complex for planes. The site was the highest point in the entire area at the time.
Not a church, more like a break room. 20 yrs ago the crank air raid siren was still just out the door on the roof.
Ill try to find photos i have of it as s spotting station
Thats wild, if you do find pictures please let me know where, it would be interesting to see.
Dam that sucks they don’t let u go past the door at 1:22:00 Bc there is like a morgue and me and my buddies used to hide in the big boxes they used to put dead bodies in
What do you have to say about the basement and the morgue? I was there in the 90's and I never hear a single thing about the basement which had a wing of tiny rooms with shackles in them where they clearly locked people in to torture them. Nor do you hear about the other curious rooms in the basement. They must have covered it up to hide what really went on there but it must have been horrific. Back in the day the feeling and energy there was obscene. It felt straight up evil. Please write back if you can share the secrets of the place. I think it has been covered up but anyone who went there in the late 80's- 90's should know about what was really there.
My moms great great grand father was kept there
So many people were kept there. It was its own little village
what was the tour guide talking about ghost adventures?
Destination Fear
“I hate people” me too Steve, me too😂
I know what he talking about. Travel channel last night
At the time I recorded it wasnt public information yet.
Don’t go here if your not gonna do the tour you will get arrested
They take the tour money to make the place safe for future explorers
I got a tour for October 31st of 2021 I can't wait to go here after Salem witch trials it's gonna be epic
It’s definitely a sick place to visit!!
2:40
I miss the days prior to 2020 when the county owned it going in there before it was sold it should’ve stayed like that the asbestos was already cleared out so it was safe and I went at least a dozen times I wish I could’ve bought it at the time lol now you get the cops called you even and charged with trespassing even tho most people have been doing it since the 80’s like it’s not their fault they don’t know the county sold it the gate was deystroyed and wide open for so long
I actually feel the county probably covered up the true history of the place and what really occurred there. .
@@Ms.Norths.Musings do tell 👀
Wow Crazy to know I just whent there a few days ago. No one bought or fixed it up yet crazy amount of people still are going there to this day it crazy
Definitely not true, as we are walking around with the caretaker who the owner of the building has allowed to be there and give tours like ours. Please have respect for peoples things as this place is still cared about, if you want to take a legal tour check em out here facebook.com/HauntedNightsEvents
