      They eat only what's given them
      They sleep where they are told
      They are castrated and neutered
      They mate or don't mate according to the owners whim
      Their masters make them come or go or sit or jump or cuddle when told.

      @@fjeldfross9327 • No Problem! Thank you for both your comment and your awareness of this issue. I’m not sure that many people realise that Male Orcas live in their Mother’s Pod/Clan, for their entire life, even after breeding. Moreover, their ‘Societies’ are Matriarchal and it is the older females who teach, strategize, and direct the pod’s ‘Hunting Missions.’ Not only was Tilikum captured as a young male and stolen from his mother, but he was also taken out of the society (Including their grandmother, siblings, etc) that Male Orcas REQUIRE, for their mental and physical health. In addition, some Orcas travel over 1000km in a year and are continually emotionally, mentally, and physically stimulated by their ‘Family Members,’ their ‘Lessons,’ their Hunting Strategies, their Communication, etc. The TRAUMA of capture as a young male, while expecting him to live in a tiny pool, eat a terrible and artificial diet, remain isolated, and Chronically Ill. All Orcas in captivity are injected with huge amounts of gelatinous materials because they are chronically dehydrated and sick, their dorsal fins fall over as their bodies are too sick to hold them up, etc. This life is so incredibly cruel and torturous, it is beyond words!

      @ktown8139 Před 9 měsíci

      @@iaamara8434 • It depends what you mean by, “Bond.” Yes, the Orcas have learned who gives them food and who spends time with them, however, they often connect the trauma of their capture and captivity with humans. Since their trainers are the humans with whom the Orcas interact, they are the humans upon which the Orcas take out their feelings of being trapped, their rage, frustration, etc. These ‘Trainers’ are neither qualified nor have any Formal/University Education such as Degrees in Zoology, Animal Behaviour, Animal Psychology, Marine Biology, Oceanography, Veterinary Medicine, Etc. Instead, the majority of these ‘Trainers’ have backgrounds and interests in scuba diving, free-diving, acrobatics (E.g. Have worked in shows on Cruise Ships, Circuses, Etc), & enjoy spending time with animals. In the 80s, places like Sea World in Florida had their Trainers swimming with, diving off, riding, etc, in the water with the Orcas. After several deaths, Sea World had to stop this, making sure that the Trainers stayed out of the water, beside the pools.

  • @OliverMoore1973

    It's an easy thing to stop the catching of Orcas and putting them in aquariums. Simply don't go to SeaWorld and tell as many people as you can. Also offer an alternative such as going on tours where boats take you out to their natural habitats. Then these businesses will thrive and be able to offer a better service. It'll take time but we'll get there.

      @ejb992 Před 9 měsíci

      @sway2006200887 Plastic, in general, is very far from harmless, including straws getting wedged into sea turtles leading to death in cases. Of all the things humans do plastic is by far the most long term dangerous thing we toss into the environment like ignorant entitled toddlers completely clueless of our actions.
      As far as zoos go they have their value especially to endangered species and sick/ injured animals. This excludes certain animals like Orca though they respond like a human responds to imprisonment up to and including deranged voilant behavior. It's actually pretty eerie the amount of similarities between humans and oracas with behavioral tendencies. Same goes with dolphins however they respond much better to certain situations like captivity although it is still way less then ideal.
      However, the other lesser animals in most modern zoos live a pretty solid long life and even form pretty wholesome bonds with the humans that take care of them. I still find them boring AF though so don't really go lol. The only exception being massive aquariums like the one in Georgia since they hit my ocean interest pretty solid and swimming with the sharks was fun.

    After initially seeing Orcas at the Vancouver Aquarium, I was horrified at how SMALL the pools are (in comparison to their natural habitat) and I never again initiated nor decades later allowed my kids to view them in this environment, explaining that they are not "entertainment" and to financially support their confinement is unjust.
    I was unable to talk my friends/acquaintances from viewing the shows at the Aquarium when they were staying at our home and I did accompany them, but I watched the shows from the underwater viewing rooms as one sees the reality of how small (relative to their size and intelligence) and more often than not, my guests kids would join me rather than sit in the stands. I gently explained what I perceived and why I had strived to convince their mom to NOT insist seeing the "shows"....simply that I think it's inhumane and cruelty. I ask the kids how they would feel if they were confined to a box far smaller than the world in which they interact..
    One need say NOTHING to an empathic child, as that child will react strongly to wild animals in captivity and ~ despite their tiny size and few years on the planet ~ decide for themselves to NEVER AGAIN support such abuse.
    I went to a circus ONCE as a preschooler...and never went again (although Circe De Solile is DIFFERENT, as those are humans CHOSING to perform: I find that beautiful). I went to Stanley Park as a child...then only when pressured thereafter...I saw a chimpanzee in an ugly suit roller skating as parents LAUGHED uproariously...noting that many kids were visibly upset.
    One person alone opting out of a behaviour might not have a significant impact...but if you make others AWARE of the scientific FACTS...they might very well raise the awareness of their peers...and these magnificent intelligent creatures can be seen in their environment.
    I was in a small fishing boat off Quadra Island near Campbell River on Vancouver Island fishing at a "Tyee Pool" (a deep recess in the ocean floor wherein salmon hide from Orcas) and a pod of killer whales gracefully swam through the area. A huge male, his dorsal fin towering above me GENTLY went under our boat, so close that I could ALMOST touch him with my outstretched hand, leaning out over the water with my feet wedged under the seat to extend my reach.
    I was scoulded for "endangering" myself but there was not an iota of malice emanating from them. Had they wanted to, they could have attacked or frightened those others who were terrified...but they were not interested in harming we humans.
    This was an awe-inspiring and Hella positive experience which filled me with gratitude and love for their power and beauty.
    Quite the opposite of what I felt seeing them in those horrible TINY claustrophobic jail cells.

One tribal member supposedly mounted one of the Orcas and rode it as it jumped into the air and into depths of the sea, he never resurfaced! Ever since then the Orca has been the animal that represents the Klallam People, its on our Official Flag and Seal. We called them Kloomachin

The fact that an orca has never killed a human in the wild but they have several times in captivity should say all that you need to know about whether these animals should be in captivity or not.
