  • Tony Nader MD PhD: Creating Balance and Emotional Wellbeing
We have discovered that there is a psycho-neural-endocrine-immunological-etcetera chain in the nervous system. The brain is not just a place where things have been experienced, or in the mind and thoughts. It’s a place where everything is coordinated and when there is a disturbance in brain activity, it can disturb or the brain becomes unable to help coordinate the physiology, or it can interfere even with different, somatic, which means physical aspects of the physiology.
Transcendental Meditation has been shown to open up the reserves of the brain, to allow different parts of the brain to act in a coherent way, and even in studies of brain visualization with advanced techniques, we see that there is blood flow that goes to parts of the brain that are more integrating, that open up different aspects of physiological brain activities, such as coherence between right and left, between front and back. This means we are opening up the physiology of the brain and allowing it to compute in a much more complete way what the situation is and how to deal with it in a more "intelligent" way.

This is the clearest description of how the brain functions--and why meditation is important in the modern world--that I have ever heard. Beautiful, wise and profound. I can see from this talk why Maharishi Mahesh Yogi chose Dr Nader to be the Director of the world-wide Transcendental Meditation movement. Truly an enlightened teacher and guide. My hope is that the world starts to know of him...because the world desperately needs real, enlightened leadership!
