A newbie hunter this year. Thanks for the advice because I had already heard some of those myths. Subscribed and liked.
After 30 years of turkey hunting I’ve heard a lot of these myths. You are correct in all of this and on 4-14-2024 in north Alabama, I saw a turkey with my own eyes swim across a ditch.
You should have named this video "excuses hunters come up with when they don't kill a turkey." lol
Glad to see you back your videos are a big help.
Matt, glad to see you. I’m in the same boat as you, had two pulled yesterday. Thanks for helping me though it, I was watching your tutorials in the waiting room to get ready for the season, imagine how I felt knowing my hunting buddy was going through the same thing as me. Misery loves company!!
Thanks for taking the time Dale, your the shi*!! Love the videos they've helped me out huge!!
Thank you so much for your knowledge! I’m going on my 2nd turkey hunt but have been HOOKED since the first. Your advice and knowledge are above reproach! Please keep it up!! God bless!
That first one is something I've heard from hunter friends and on videos of famous hunters. But nothing any of those guys said have ever helped like your advice. I have two Missouri seasons and 4 turkeys worth of experience now, and I didn't even see one until I took advice from your video about what new hunters do wrong. I'll definitely purge my mind of those myths. Thanks again!
I absolutely love your Enthusiasm and attitude! Keep up the good work my brother!
Thanks again Dale for the great video with useful information , as usual. A follower from last year, from Quebec.
Your the motivational speaker of turkey hunters god bless you have a gift thanks for your knowledge with fellow hunters !
I heard that you nevr cluck unless you Yelp along with it to keep them from thinking it's a "putt". Glad you clarified it. Season opens up Saturday for us in Alabama and gone be in there before daylight!! Happy hunting!!
Thats cool you put this out today, i saw my first bird of the spring in full strut today and it had my son and i pumped up lol. I cant wait!
Great job Dale! I get a kick out of all the myths out there. You said it right they think Gobblers have human reasoning ability lol. They have also killed "a lot of turkeys" one per year for 10-15 years. It's all relative I guess but I've learned the myths because I've been blessed to guide and video 20-30 successful hunters for 15 years and hunted for 26. That equals "a lot of turkeys". You were so spot on about hunters over thinking and believing myths.
Gettin fired up for turkey huntin🦃
Good video Dale! Hope u have another great & successful season this year brother🦃
Loved the video .Good luck this season and God bless!
My dad was an old school turkey hunter like that. He got his start hunting turkeys in south Mississippi in the early 70s. I saw the man kill a heaping pile of turkeys through the years. He firmly believed that birds hated to go down hill, and always called very soft and rarely ever yelped. He also believed that hunting a field first thing in the morning was a waste of time because turkeys hate getting the dew on their feet. Lol I miss him. He was a hell of a woodsman.
Great Post! Especially the part about Dew on the underside of a Turkeys foot.
What part of south Mississippi? I grew up chasing turkeys in perry county MS
@@tfred2129 around Brookhaven
@@WOMPITUS Ok I'm from a little south of there.
@@tfred2129 Cool. I got to go down there and hunt with him once in about 2002. Beautiful woods and lots of birds down there. I’m from Weet Monroe LA. Not many birds here.
Welcome from Ohio good to see ya back 🦃🦃
Well it's about darn time man
Thanks for taking the time boss
Love your videos man. Great information
Good stuff, I also harvested several after calling them down a hill. Also over calling will cause them the shut up. You just need to know when and where to call and when the stop.
Thank you sir! I clicked on this video in hopes that you would mention the cluck/ purr . I have called in many birds using that and it's deadly! I think whoever says you can't do it is just trying to keep a secret to success!
The hunting public recently did a video on a “ call shy turkey “ on hened up gobbler lol. This is channel is the gods honest truth.
Good advice Dale. Good luck this Sping & enjoy God’s great outdoors. Thanks Dale. Keep makin ‘em & I’ll keep watchin’.
Great Video Matt! I agree 100 percent on what you say about Clucks and Purrs. Love them. Talked about them in my 2nd Video. I just uploaded a 3 Minute Video 1 Month ago-- Spring GobblersOn BootLeather On Public Land. I Scout out areas way off the sides of Woodsroads. Let me know how you Like that Video if you have time to watch it. 30th Spring coming up. Got 118 so far. Can't wait for NJ to open up!!!
Killer information Dale, appreciate ya sharing your knowledge
When you said Rockingham county VA I got excited😂 even though Rockbridge ain’t far
Couldn’t agree more with the “Cluck and Purr” comments. I know the videos you’re talking about and when I heard this host say that clucking and purring was an alarm sound I almost fell out of my chair. If you do the call correctly, it has the complete opposite effect! It can calm down turkeys who are nervous! This same call with completely different inflection can be an alarm call, but the turkeys body language and speed/volume of calling is what determines that! I wonder how many people saw this other guys video and now don’t use one of the most vital calls in turkey hunting.
lol.. I've heard these myths and lies before as well.. I find the putt and cluck myth interesting though, never heard that one.. I use it often and just like raking the leaves, it really brings in some of them stubborn toms.. I agree with what you mention about birds being "call shy" .. I don't recall ever seeing birds not be receptive to calls in the early season... I have experienced stubborn birds that wouldn't come to calls but I think they're just educated.. they've been called to, shot at and seen too many humans and decoy spreads.. People making those excuses about being call shy just might not understand the multitude of scenarios that could lead to birds not coming in.. too much movement, bad decoy placement/spread, could be something preventing them from coming in , might have another hen closer that is easier/quicker to get to. who knows.. great video..
I live 45 minutes from Rockbridge Co VA! If you're ever in VA and want to hunt I'd love to have you over on our property!
Awesome video!
Great content Matt! Really enjoying all of your turkey hunting videos. What are your thoughts on hunting turkeys in the rain?
I just heard myth number 2 the other day off CZcams that’s my go too call works great in Florida
Thanks glad I watched this I actually listened to the cluck and purr thing being a warning call. I'm new to turkey hunting and called one in last year c&p.
I saw that too but I can't remember who said it...cluck purr and scratching leaves is the secret ingredient for fresh turkey nuggets
@@garrettpittman7374 I think it was Jason cruise with mossberg, but don’t quote me on that
Love the video
Great advice! I am going to try my hand at turkey hunting this year. Only took me 62 years to get around to it...lol
This comment I'd a year old. How did your 1st hunt go?
Welcome back Turkey Season!
Good advice bud
Turkeys are call shy😉...... remember the one we worked for 4 hours and called and called and eventually we were able to set up a little closer and call some more and after 45 minutes of calling he finally came in? You was purring and clucking A LOT too....
I’m pretty sure that ol turkey broke ALL myths! That was a 3+ year old too.
I know exactly who your talking about. Works for mossberg. I couldnt believe he said that. I have finished off many gobblers with clucks and purrs!!!
I got the same jacket, nice
How often do you call if your not seeing anything
Just saw the video of the guy saying clucking and purring will hang up a gobbler! I believe you over all
I just saw that too. His comment section was turned off😂
Amen brother. I’ve called them in from two ridges over. Could barely here him. He came over two ridges and a small creek. He was on fire. 22lbs. Florida bird. Just one example. There has been many. You 200 percent right they are all myths.
Ridges? In Florida???
@@slugoo6474 that's what I was going to say! I didn't know there were two ridges in Florida!
Great video Mr. Dale. I'll send you a list of about 20 other myths that you can make a video about. lol
Thanks Shane
There are plenty more for sure lol
Love your videos also
Any Osceola tips?
Shot my 1st turkey April 10th this year, ran down the hill to my strutter decoy and got whacked, it was awesome!
I’m glad you brought up the purring. I may know the video you’re referring to. It kind of threw me when I saw it. But I’m glad you’ve reassured me it’s false
I know the video also. That guy was just plain wrong. Turkeys cluck and purr ALL THE TIME. It's their content feeding call. I bet every turkey I killed with the cluck and purr wishes they would have seen that guy's video first, lol.
Got fed up with one turkey last year.so i just went through my whole turkey vest doing a few yelps with each call (12 total)and even owl hoot.by the time i hit the owl hoot he shock gobbled 45 yards away and i killed him 5 minutes later.he had a triple beard on public land.
Dale come out to utah stay with us and I'll buy you a elk tag🇺🇸👌
Matt I killed my turkey with a 10 inch beard 1 1/4 spurs he had beard rot
Haha yea I seen that video on sounds "not to make" turkey hunting.
I have too! When I watched that it was time to unsubscribe!😂
@ Kevin Burnett we got the same last name
This was in sussex va by the way
I'm 50/50 on some of these with arguments but I'm not willing to argue lol just hunt
Use a aggressive jake on a hen,case closed.😱
I have to disagree, in a way, on number 2. I've heard the alarm putt purr many times but it's always been from roosted turkeys I've been busted by and always loud. What you're talking about is soft calling. Turkeys do it all the time while feeding and no it doesn't alarm them. Maybe people that say it does, and I've read in turkey hunting magazines that it's an alarm call, have experienced being busted by roosted turkeys or just calling way too loud. The feeding purr putt/putt purr, which ever you wanna call it and probably should be called purr cluck is veryyyy soft and will not scare turkeys. Turkeys do not call soft when alarmed because soft calls won't alarm other turkeys around them.
Must be alot of turkey bones on hill tops that walked up hills that died up there because wont walk down👌🇺🇸
Haha hey harry don’t do it.
I had some tooth problems too. Had a root canal & crown . $2000 later I’m broke lol 😂 damn dentist
Man, I hate tooth issues.
I got to get one cut out on the 28th
Then after a day of recovery it's off to turkey hunting lol.
Iv done that put and Thay quit goddleing
Have you ever hunted in VT?
No but I want to ...
@@daleoutdoors17 If you ever have the time to come up here I would love to hunt with you and show you the area and learn from you. I'm pretty inexperienced. I've only been turkey hunting the last 2 seasons but tagged 2 birds last season and I'm hooked haha.
can you over call
Mary Clouser yes.
I’ve killed some big ole birds with that feeding purr
Yeah, that's a sound hens make when they're content.
And people why I have never liked mossberg lol
What idiot thinks cluck and purr scared birds lol
Myth #4 . You have to get up at 4am to kill a turkey. 7:30 to 12 noon is the sweet spot, for me anyway.
For me personally I've killed all mine within 30 mins of shooting light
Old timers.... always giving the best and worst of advice!
