- Downgrading from a 1500 sq ft shop to a small room in my barn. This video was sponsored by Woodcraft www.woodcraft.com/
Come take a tour of my tiny woodworking shop! (It's not actually that tiny, I am just coming from a 1500 square foot shop full of machines, so going back to all handtools and leaving my machines is definitely an adjustment, but I'm very pleased with it nonetheless. Tiny Woodworking Shop Tour! See how I have my shop organized to maximize efficiency in a small shop, and my workflow using handtools only to build. See my toolchests, my sharpening station, my workbench, and many past projects you've watched me build here on CZcams. See the shop improvements I've made and how I converted this small space into a a cozy little workshop. This shop is about the same size as a one car garage woodshop, so if you're looking at how to create an efficient workspace in a one car garage, I hope you find some ideas and inspiration from this video!

I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable." I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool. Whether it's carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support- whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

I am 72 yrs old from England and find your videos, smile and enthusiasm so infectious that I have started to fit out my tiny garage as a workshop and started woodworking. Keep up the good work...
Wonderful! I love hearing that.
Anne, your candid honesty about your anxiety and depression is fantastic. Remember it is NOT a weakness, but just another part of who we are, that we are yet to come to terms with! Anyone can see from watching your videos that you are a very loyal person that cares deeply, especially about your Grandfather, and those dear to you. Anyone that is as good with animals, is number one by me! Take Care in these difficult times! Cheers, Sean
Sean, thank you for your kind words of encouragement! You are very right, the things that make us different do not necessarily make us weak, they are what makes us uniquely us. I have been trying to learn and implement that truth in my own life very intentionally this year, and I'm a long ways off, but getting closer all the time :)
I am a UAA graduate became a carpenter a.w.a a handyman here in Canada. Impressed with your intelligence, skills and passion for woodworking. Love your tiny workshop. Thanx for sharing.
Wow, thank you!
I cant believe how clean and tidy American wood workers keep their shops, I could never have a computer in my dusty, untidy shop, Seems you all must spend more time dusting and cleaning than you do on projects but I must say you produce some very nice work.
I've got three girls 16, 10 and 8 and I love engaging them in my workshop projects. You are an inspiration! Thank you for taking the time to make your videos!
I 'discovered' recently 3 or 4 more female/girl/lady/women woodworkers here - truly amazing what they make, do and.... share. So much inspiration.... if I had kids, I would make them watch at least one YT video a day - on whatever topic, but at least 'learning' something - anything. Somehow, it will inspire them for a hobby - or maybe even more. Wishing I had this in my youth...
I love her enthusiasm and how much she enjoys sharing her workshop.
I have an 8x7 shed, I had to cut some length off of my bench to fit it in! I'm looking forward to the warmer weather here in North Yorkshire, since the other half of my shop is really the yard.
I wanted to say thanks for being open about your mental health. I've struggled with depression for years now, and found the lack of confidence it brings really kills motivation. I've tried using a backlog board to manage tasks in the past, I'll try that idea out again now that I'm thinking about woodworking again.
Sorry to hear you struggle as well. Backlog boards haven't been super helpful for me because eventually they just become lists of what I HAVEN'T done. The kanban/scrum boards really have changed that. Check out the book doing twice the work in half the time. It really changed the mindset of "to do" lists to rewarding myself for "what's possible and what's done :)"
@@AnneofAllTrades I will do, thanks!
Grandpa's sawdust ...if I ever win the lottery, you`ll finish your dream shop and then some! I`ve been stuck behind a computer modeling in 3D Max for the past twenty-five years and I`m about to start my wood working journey. Did some renovations around the house, and based on some comments ...and the satisfaction it gives me, I think I`ve finally found what I want to do. Shame it`s somewhat late in the game as i just turned fifty, but as they say ...better late than never. My very best to you and yours, may all your dreams come true!! You`ll CONTINUE to grow, and I look forward to seeing it!!!
The sawdust from your Grandfather’s workshop actually gave me a tear. Thanks for sharing your exhausting and wonderful life with us.
Me too. Made me wish I had done that with my dad's shop.
It was hard for me not to tear up a little as well, he was such a special guy.
@@AnneofAllTrades I would've loved to have met my grandfather. I have a lot of his tools still some more to acquire steal form hisbgarage same thing right .
@@AnneofAllTrades What name brand overalls , and jeans do you wear?

You had me at grandfathers Sawdust 😭😭😭
Lady Anne, You are one of the very best Presenters ever. To learn from You to get me organized is close to heaven!
Wow, thank you!
Ms Anne , YOUR AN AWESOME PERSON AND CRAFTSPERSON !!!!!!! 🥽🔨🔧🔩🗜🧰
You are always an encouragement in so many ways - thank you, Anne! ❤️
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
FACT - here in the UK the most important tool in the workshop is the kettle 😜
Would there be a back up kettle as well?
Trust in Jesus Christ
The sawdust from your grandfather's workshop is something special. My grandfather passed away nearly 20 years ago and I was fortunate to discover some tools in the shed which had been left behind by my uncles. I restored his 26" Disston 7-point rip saw and it now lives above my work bench. I also got one of his old oil cans, so I put the oil for my sharpening stone into it. Always important o hold on to a few things for the sake of memories and the people who made you the person you are today.
Absolutely! He was the best. Good reminders of great men :)
@@AnneofAllTrades - Hi Anne. Also, as someone who has had mental health struggles over the years, I applaud your work, the channel and how your videos have given me encouragement to get going on projects. Building my own Dutch toolchest at the moment, though only glue-and-screw construction.
It's refreshing seeing such a beautiful, intelligent young Lady that has real talent on you tube. So many go the cheaper route. We need more young people like you in the world Anne. Don't give up on yourself, family and your dreams. Good Luck Take care!
Uuuuuuuh! Ditto. E'rbody on POINT down here in Commentsville.
Best whiteboard I've ever seen . . . life flows better with a system. You nailed that one!
Boy does it ever!
Welcome to Tennessee! There’s a whole mess of talent and some great hardwood lumber store strewn throughout the mid-state. We really do have it made down here!
Thank you! Yes this place is wonderful, there's good reason I moved here :)
Who are the 196 people who disliked this? Maybe they hate woodwork and nice people. I love the video Anne. You come across as very genuine.
Oh, thank you so much! Comments like this will fuel me with encouragement for a long time!
my grandpa had a big (to me) hand driven grinder on his workbench. I used to love turning it as fast as I could, then watching it slow down over a minute or two. Stunningly, that was about 55 years ago.
Your dress (clothing) style never fails to put a smile on my face, comftable and practical clothing is the best!
Greetings from Ireland, your energy is infectious
You are so kind!
I’m a mulligan! I dream of one day going to Ireland to visit the home land!:)
Thank you for not only sharing your workshop, but also a little of who you are. If my daughter can focus on 'doing', rather than 'surviving', then I hope she can find remote mentor-ship from you.
The struggles we face are a lot easier when we get the courage to talk about them and hear someone else say "me too."
You are busy, busy, busy!! Its good to hear that your work is a sweet pleasure and helps overall health.
Absolutely!
This just makes me smile, absolutely lovely, thanks so much for sharing! ❤️❤️
You are so welcome!
You are so welcome!
You have a great looking shop. I'm new to your channel. It's great to see someone that enjoys building things as much as I do. I'm a soldier with PTSD and building stuff helps me excape.
Expressing creativity is definitely an awesome escape!
You stole my ADD excuse! Hella great ideas in this one video. First the philosophical challenge to power tools which (i'm actively laying out a garage wood shop) I've encountered on CZcams, and a relevant reminder that carving, drawing wood, planing, and chiseling is fun for me. Second the self awareness to include non-work nooks for contemplation or video work. Lots of inspiration in physical reminders of your journey. Third is "scrum board" learning is now on my schedule thanks to your generous, candid and transparent sharing of your challenges or vulnerabilities and how you deal. Honestly, I could watch you talk about wallpaper, but regardless, BIG Thx.
Hi Anne. Your shop is wonderful. Many years ago l built my first cabinet shop. It was 18 feet x 32 feet in size. Can't believe how many cabinets I made in that little room. Had a wood burning stove and lots of scraps to keep me comfortable. There was many times that I had to climb up and over cabinets to get out the door. Think you so much for sharing your wonderful shop. You will always be happy doing what you love to do. God bless you! Best regards from Ohio. Walter
a cabinet shop with a woodstove is a great thing, it saves you from hoarding :)
Thanks for being such a huge inspiration! My dream is to have something similar one day. I also deal with similar mental struggles so this video seriously helped!
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I'm so happy to have helped in any small way!
I to have a hard time keeping focused on a project. I’ll get part way through a project then decide I want a break from that and then get start on something else. I have a adjustable lamp project that I found in an old Woodsmith magazine that I got maybe half way through and all the pieces have been sitting in a corner of my shop. This lamp project was something I got started on about 7-8 years ago lol. I do a lot of bowl turning and I just recently finished a bowl that I got started on probably 2 years ago.
Always lots of things on the shelf waiting for someday :)
I know THAT feeling!!
I know THAT feeling!!
My wife and I really enjoy your videos and wish we would have moved to Nashville when I retired from the Army up there. We love your motivation and hard work.
Thanks so much! Nashville is a wonderful place!
This is the first video I have ever seen by you and I was delightfully surprised. Not only by your enthusiasm but also your openness with depression issues. As someone who has depression issues as well, I find it inspiring to see someone who is open about it.
Thanks for being here. Much love your way.
I am 67 years old and I learn something from you every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you so much! Keep up the exceptional work!
That makes me so happy! Thank you!
Shower might be good first aid? So good to see you settling in.ADD and depression can't stop you.
It's good to meet another person and how you manage your life
Your channel is my new CZcams obsession. It is so satisfying in the way I believe my father found This Old House satisfying. I used to live in Chattanooga and would visit Nashville to swing dance. I hope to visit and take a class under you some day!
that was really inspiring for me, and made me feel a little better at the end of my day, thank you..., and keep it up. :- )
I'm so glad!
Delightful. Human. Humbling. Inspiring. Very cool!!
Thank you for the organization and time management tip. I've looked into scrum analysis at your suggestion, and I think this will boost my productivity greatly.
Keep making great videos, and I'll keep watching. Thank you.
I'm so glad it was helpful! Scrum and Kan Ban are amazing!
Thanks Ann, for sharing the white board idea. I too am dealing with depression & anxiety. I lost my job due to my meds. You have inspired me to get my place in order. And start building furniture. Then I can spend.all day every day, doing something I enjoy without the stress of a boss. : )
I’m so sorry to hear that my friend, it’s a heavy load to carry, but keep your chin up
And your body moving as much as possible. The farm is the external motivator I need to keep my body moving, caring for the animals and doing the work that needs done around here gives me the momentum in the morning to propel me through the rest of my day. Finding a few rewarding morning routines may help you in that area as well.
Thanks Anne, for the reply (I didn't expect that). : ) And Thanks for the advise too. I hope you are having a good day. I am actually getting something done!(first time in 3 weeks) It's a start! Thanks again!
I would be really interested in a video on how you use your scrum boards to layout your projects and goals for the day
We'll have to do that someday! Not sure if it's the right thing for this channel, but lots of folks have requested videos on running a business like mine as well, so someday I'll find a place to put stuff like that :)
Me too!
Is Anne just about the awesomest person ever or what?
Also, take a drink every time she says "my friend," "my good friend" or "my very good friend." 🥴
hahaha I have a lot of very good friends, so you're not gonna be very sober at the end of that game! Love deep, with your whole heart, it makes life so much better!
So love your new "office". You are amazing and I love watching your progress and projects! Amazing Anne of All Trades!!! You go girl!
Anne, you are so inspiring. I also deal with anxiety and depression due to living with Lewy Body Dementia. It's hard to keep going with the craft I love while slowly losing my ability to do the level of work I strive for. I'll never give up, instead I'll keep watching your videos.
That's a big shop. I have to work on a 7" x 9" pouch at my apartment I would be glad to have an indoor shop like yours.
I know that shop is big, I have a 6x13 shop, 78 sqft
7" x 9"? Are you a mouse?
Good grief, good lord, wholly tolitto this was inspiring and makes me want to get rid of lots of things and build again, stronger, simpler, more original focusing on the older style of true nordic craftsmanship with tools from the past that look so beautiful. Interesting how all the tools today have no aesthetic beauty but although useful they just don't compare to the older tools and materials that are timeless and sexy, real and raw :) Anyway I am glad I found your channel for inspiration. :) The saw dust bottle was a lovely touch and the tool box from the days of grandpa...
Thanks for the kind words :)
@@AnneofAllTrades I've gotta second the grampa's shop bottle...I inherited almost all of my grandfather's tools. I don't have any sawdust from when he was using it though (he hadn't been able to go to his shop for years, but he let me!). Loved it.
You are fantastic! I love when a woman does what tradition calls "a man's job". Even I do not have a lovely shop like you do, I do have in common few things with you; my love for wood, my love and attraction to small things, my love to writing instruments.
Keep the great work. I am heading to get some food and come back to watch the rest of your videos.
Hugs from NYC.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing your new shop with us Anne. Now I’m off to learn about scrum analysis ‘cause lord knows I need all the help I can get to maintain focus on projects in my workshop! I have a similar area in my shop to your wall of shame I call it the area of unfinished dreams! Can’t wait to see you build your dream workshop. All the best.
You’ll be able to use that wood stove from October-March it’s cold for like 6 months here
Can I please say something? 13 seconds into this video, and I had to pause and leave my comment and click on the like button.
Thanks for not letting your female attributes hang out to get guys to watch your video.
I came across some video where you feel so uncomfortable watching, you rather stop and move on to the next one.
And yes I am going to give you a big compliment.
I wish there were more women like you, honorable and hard working.
Tell your parents they can be proud of you.
Lots of respect from down here in South Africa 🇿🇦
I love your humble honesty and gratitude 🥰 Thank you for sharing your beautiful world 👍♥️
Always!
Your workshop looks rich in contents, well organized and efficient to work.
This is amazing! Wish I could do my internship with you!! Im going to start school in august to learn woodworking. Im probably the only girl in my class
Get a friend to join you, then you won't be, and the world will get another furniture maker!! ;)
Men & Women don't always approach things the same way. More women in woodworking opens us up to more unique ideas, approaches & creativity.
I started watching with the understanding that it was about a tiny workshop, I have an 8ft x5ft shed that I have as a tiny workshop, 90% of what I do is hanging out the door or outside.
Making do with what you’ve got! I love it!!
You are just lovely. A joy to watch. Thank you for your inspiration. A woodworking shop is a project that never ends. Inspiration is most beneficial skill a craftsperson can posses.
Well, so much information. As always, Miss Anne, thank you for sharing.
Me with my tools in my attached garage: “miter saw, circular saw, jig saw, saw horses.. im almost a carpenter”
Then I watch videos like this lol...
Carpenters stud walls. Woodworkers make heirloom furniture. Aight? Aight.
@@rockbandgamer In the UK, Joiners do the building trade work, Carpenters build furniture
Thank you so much for mentioning your depression.
Our struggles don't seem nearly as big when we talk about them and find out other folks we admire struggle with the same ones.
Yes, thank you! I just found your channel and as I watched this video I thought about how nice it would be to have my own workshop and land for gardening. I suffer from depression and have been in bed for the past week. I constantly doubt my ability to follow through with projects bc some days it’s all I can do to take a shower and feed myself. But, I keep on keepin’ on! Good for you on all that you have accomplished! Keep up the good work 💪🌱☕️🐄🌻. You have inspired me!
@@AnneofAllTrades Ditto, thank you so much for mentioning this. I struggle with depression myself, wood working, and my other projects are coping mechanisms, but it's been on hold a while as I build my house, which is it's own coping mechanism I suppose ;). Regardless, thank you.
@@perisophia remember 4 words. This too will pass.
@@perisophia I hope you feel better. A workshop works wonders for your mind. If you can, get yourself some basic tools and get started! Best wishes from Spain.
I too, love the little jar of sawdust from your Grandfathers shop. All of your woodworking in your shop whether it's tables, chairs of toolboxes make that area so comforting. It must be a special treat to do projects there and feel so comfortable.
Thank you! It's a pretty special space!
Your temporary small workshop is an over the top dream for so many. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
*Immediately CZcamss SCRUM*
I talk about it a lot more in my recent LIVE video if you wanna see more of it in action.
Living in South Africa where Rugby rules, scrum has a completely different meaning but I'm going to learn this concept nonetheless. Thanks Anne
Hilton Ralphs Same here in Wales... but still a good idea
Like a Agile method scrum?
"tiny woodshop" while I sit here working out of a 125sq/ft shop...
most important thing is you've got space to be creative! Tiny is as tiny does, I was more referring to the fact that I was leaving my 1500 square foot workshop and machinery in the old space ;)
Single car Garage here, not even the entire garage.
Shed dweller, checking in
I'm working in a 6'x10' section of a one car garage that doubles as the laundry and bicycle storage. Working under the roll up garage door, so there's not even usable ceiling space. Glad to see others in similar situations. The driveway see's a lot of sawdust most days.
It doesn't matter.. I have 850 square feet on the first floor and 800 in the loft.... it's still far to small.
nice place you have to make all you creations, and thanks for cheers with us...
I love your channel, I too suffer from Anxiety and your tips about organising have helped me. I took up hand tool woodwork as a hobby once I retired and love using my Lie Nielsen tools. I found watching your videos extremely relaxing. Thank You.
What is this, a woodshop for ants?
hahaha Paul, just work your magic to make it jackman sized!

Awesome! I've done the same thing, I have sawdust from my grandfather's shop in one of his old cigar boxes that I keep in my shop.
That's so special!
Love you so much more with your honesty and openness.
Such an amazing, inspiring young person!!
Thank you so much!!
WOW! Thank you!! I’m so glad to have found you!!! Encourages me to look into tools for organizing my workspace into what might work for me.... gives me hope!! Can’t wait to see more!!!

Thank you for the tour. I appreciate your vivacity and candid presentation. Again, thank you.
Your energy and enthusiasm are beautiful. Thanks for the tour
Pa de bourree in the workshop,,, what a nice idea,,, you really do enjoy your time in the shop. I for 35 years danced around my shop as well, much to the confusion of everyone. Your aside brought tears to my eyes,,, old dust not so much
I attended Anne's class at Christopher Schwartz's shop. She was, as you might imagine, a splendid teacher--kind, patient, enthusiastic and a perfect model. She was generously assisted, I should add, by Megan Fitzpatrick, who is as fun and funny as she is knowledgeable. --Thank you both.
Thank you John! You were a joy to have in class.
Depression? I would never have guessed. Your smile and charm is delightful. I admire your talent but being a great deal older with arthritis in wrists and fingers, I thank God for power tools. Those hand planers brought up a lot of memories and made me cringe with the thought of the pain they would cause if I tried to use one now.
I’m so sorry to hear about your arthritis, my mom similarly had to give up piano and banjo and it was such a shame, I loved listening to her play.
Thanks to everyone who made this channel a reality!
As a tech nerd, I know a kanban board when I see one. I love how you're purposing it for your shop!
Heyyo! Heck yeah! I came from the tech world and Kanban and scrum are amazing systems.
Stumble on your channel and Wow wow wow!!! All hand tools. Amazing!!!
Oh my God!! I just continued to watch and heard you mention Homestead Heritage. We bought a barn frame from those wonderful people and built our house in the Hill Country around it. I then took two woodworking classes with Paul Sellers, and much later a blacksmithing class with Caleb. Very cool place. Now that we've moved to Hawaii, I'll have to learn what the best trees are for woodworking. I might even try my hand at green woodworking, and build a shave horse. You are very inspirational!
Thank you🍁
Dear Anne: when I feel my woodworking progress is getting confounding (maybe because I’m 79 and only started last year), I immediately go to your videos , and bingo my enthusiasm returns. Thank you thank you!
That makes me really happy!!
Girl, You've got your act together! I am delighted to discover your channel and experience your work! Much obliged. 🤠
This is fantastic. Thank you, and happy new year!
So organized! What a comforting place to work. This was a great video and appreciate you sharing these. Keep the inspiration coming!
Thank you! Will do!
You are FANTASTIC! i am really impressed. I am in my eighth decade and just did some mortise and tenon work? (No Pictures) I assembled two legs on a 2 x 4. . A dog's hind leg would be straighter.
Good for you being open about depression. Been there. Am in Gods hands and enjoying life!
A great video Anne, thanks so much, I love what you do. Your awesome collection of dividers and calipers rivals my own (was a patternmaker in another life). From Down Under.
Thanks so much! Oh patternmaking is so fascinating!!
@9:42 That was a very touching moment. Hits right in the feels.
As I currently update our sprint board for work, I am extremely, extremely impressed with your adaptation of a similar board for your workshop. Liked and subscribed for adaptation of modern techniques to an age-old trade.
You are an awesome person! I think we are kindred spirits with the same interests and a lot of the same issues to struggle with. Seeing you just brightened up my day and motivates me to spend more time in my shop. You are blessed to have so many friends too.
Thank you! I count those blessings often.
You are a lovely person!!! Thanks for sharing
I enjoyed listening to u going through ur tools and everything. thanks. few seconds watching ur video and I paused liked and subscribed and resume watching it.
Best. Small. Shop. Ever.
Another great video Anne! When you showed your grandfathers wood shavings was a really cool thing to do. I wish that I had something like that from my grandfather. What that shows is the great relationship you had with your grandfather.
Keep the great videos coming.
Thanks for sharing and God bless
Thank you very much!
Its not the size of the shed , its what comes out the door.
Love it all thanks.
Cheers!
Thank you Anne for reminding me of my grandpa today when memories came flooding back of playing on his midwestern farm as a child. I should've kept a little jar of the soil I used to play with at the entrance to the barn. He drove his old John Deere and International Harvester tractors in and out so many times over his lifetime it pulverized the soil floor of the barn into the finest silt I have ever felt, softer than powdered sugar...and it had just the slightest surprisingly sweet smelling hint of old diesel. I guess I don't need the jar, I can recall it so clearly now. I was honored to be his pallbearer and kept one of the spent cartridge casings from his VFW gun salute, he had a purple heart from WWII from being in the Coast Guard on LST 69 that blew up on the Pearl Harbor West Loch explosion. I wish I could be 1/10th as productive as he was, even into his 90s he was shoveling his own snow. Thank you Anne for inspiring me to find the joy in the little peaceful things in life (like woodworking) to keep me going and helping me remember the good people where I came from.
Your grandpa sounds like quite the guy. Cherish those memories! Finding the joy in little things will enrich your life so greatly!
Your unfinished projects are comforting for me, I feel so much guilt that small work tasks slip through the cracks and just never get done. Thank you for reminding me that it’s okay!
It's all ok! Especially if you're doing woodwork as an escape, passtime or hobby, there should be no pressure, deadlines, shame or guilt, just FUN!
the vise that was restored for you by your friend, i have that same one but non restored and i use it on a regular basis. great vise. also i 110% agree about your sharpening station and that it needs to be out and easy to get to and use. when mine is put away (im not always woodworking i do metal and other types of work) i always get lazy and it takes for ever for me to get it out and use it but once it is out i use it all the time. it makes a big difference having it out and ready to go vs put away.
Greetings from Germany. Just finished dinner here and that was the perfect time to be notified of a new video. Thanks for showing us around.
Thank you for taking the time! My brother lives in Berlin. Wave if you see him ;)
How sweet that you cherish your Grandpa's toolbox. I had a Grandpa that also introduced me to tools and making things. I have his toolbox and it's exactly like yours.
That’s awesome! What a small world (or a very popular toolbox)
You have the best energy.
Love this video, I made a proper work bench for my school wood working project when I was sixteen, still have it, it’s like an old friend. Much love from England
I love that you still have your first workbench! That is so special.
I loved this video, particularly the way you bring your family history and personal sense of humor into it. I look forward to the next one.
Thank you so much! There's a new video every few days, be sure to hit that notification button!
