    so much flexibility / so many options and sounds great - if it's microprocessor controlled then it feels like a real shame not to add a software / plug-in control layer though.... as it is there's a hell of a lot to notate if you want to recall later

    • @DoitYHWH
      @DoitYHWH Před 2 lety +3

      Yes software control plz!!!

    • @clemybeatz8031
      @clemybeatz8031 Před 2 lety +1

      I guess you've misunderstood how the microprocessor is used. Its only intended purpose is in/decreasing steps of resistance (usually done by the potentiometer). The advantage are, quite tight tolerances. Therefore the actual manipulation of your sound can and will be controlled very precisely(in terms of analog gear), which enables ssl to fit so many features.
      But nevertheless, its a 100% analog (sound) circuit, therefore the actual potentiometer still have to be dialled in at the correct position. So no software, will be able to do the actual recall of the potis.
      (that's the part where I start guessing): probably u could implement some sort of partial recall (regarding the options with pressing buttons, i.E. DEQ's Freq & Range)

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile Před 2 lety +3

      @@clemybeatz8031 I don’t think he misunderstood at all. Perhaps you have misunderstood. The digitally controlled analog hardware design is absolutely perfect for memory use. It would make a bit of a mess of an already very crowded front panel though. Store, recall, and one of the 31 step pots dedicated to setting number is all it would take to do it. I’d be happy with 8 registers. Old school!

    Great unit and design with all the new features. I wish it had some output transformers to really add some extra body and weight. This could have easily been implemented like the Fusion with an In / Out switch for the Transformers. I guess the work around would be to pair it with my Fusion!

      Indeed! Ive got them both. In M/S mode the pair offer quite a bit of polish for the Master Bus. The bang for the buck and flexibility is hard to compete with. It stands amongst my other studio compressors and does the glue like nothing else. I often send gear back, but the SSL products remain long after others are gone.

    Does the Bus+ do the G Series compressor? I might be missing a piece of information, on the website it reads " If you need it to be clean and punchy like the SuperAnalogueTM 9000 Series version, it can be. If you need it to be gritty and grungy like an early 4000E, it can do that also. Or if you need over-the-top, saturated, parallel compression for the drums, THE BUS+ has got you covered."

  • @Jonas-jq5xl
    @Jonas-jq5xl Před 10 měsíci +1

    I cant for the life of me understand why you put so much effort into what is obviously a beautiful piece of kit, but can’t seem to develop digital recall via a plug-in for it. So many companies are doing that correctly these days, and honestly this compressor is an ccabsolute ache in recall. If you want to compete you need to get with the times SSL!

    * fun SMASHING drums, rather than "smashing up"
    To "smash up" means what it says - to break (something) to bits violently. To "smash," in audio engineer terminology, means to clamp down on a signal hard - causing much gain reduction - by means of compression, using fast settings.

    I’m listening to this on a full range, effectively linear system - and the differences pointed out were so subtle, even after multiple listens, I’m not sure I really got a sense of what this thing can do… other than sound like an SSL bus compressor.
    Without the captions and narration to tell me what I was supposed to be hearing, I would have not known that any settings had been changed at most points in the video. I think with things like the different 4K modes, driving the input a little harder would have revealed its character more. And I only thought I heard the difference in low end with the low THD button. Again, something I would’ve missed if it wasn’t pointed out and visually demonstrated.
    I think I would have to spend some time with this box in person to get an idea of whether or not it was right for me. This video, in terms of pure sonics, didn’t help me.
