- I bought this Big Reed 106 vise about a year ago. It's taking up space in the shop so now it's time to get it restored and put back in the wild. It weighs in at 135 pounds!! Hope you enjoy the video and as always thank you for watching.

That vise IS a monster! Excellent restoration, looks great!
Thanks! Yes it is a beast! It reminds me every time I have to move it! LOL!
I say that is a monster, those jaws are almost as big as your hands. I say it was glad watching that brown disappear. The clear coat looks better than any crazy paint job you could have done.
Thanks Brother! A painted vise doesn't sell as well in my area. This one is going to get sold. I don't have any use for it.
Great job on that beast. Massive vice and looks so much better in raw steel than that horrible brown. I’m sure it will sell in a heartbeat, but if it doesn’t, you could always advertise it as a boat mooring. 😄
Thanks Brother!! The raw steel sells better for me in my area but..I'm also not far from the shore so either way I should make out pretty good.🍻
Interesting. I have wondered about spray lacquer stopping rust. You are the first CZcamsr pro I have seen use lacquer. Thank you.
You Tube Pro 🤣 I'm no pro brother. I'm just George. The lacquer works as a good alternative especially when you bring it down to bare metal. I have a high carbon steel knife I restored years ago coated in it hasn't rusted yet.
Good job 👍 it's nice to see u wearing your PPE
Nice job George. Ps: love the thumbnail 😉
Thanks Brother!! 😁
That's a monster. Great job brother as always !
Thanks Brother. Hope you guys are doing all right.
A spectacular vise, but it was too easy! 😉. No stuck pins, bolts, nuts, etc... You are gonna get spoiled! 😁😁😁
That's amazing I was working in a plant in Mississippi this past week and that's the vise they had on there welding table
That turned out great I like the no paint look.
Thanks for sharing George
Wow! that's cool! This one is a work horse for sure and I find not painting them makes them sell better.
beauty!
Thanks Bro!!
Looks like my vise, it has an eleven inch opening.
Dad got it 50 vears ago on the side of the road and said it needed a pin to get it to work. Being working like a champ ever since, here in Australia.
That's so cool! I love hearing stories like that just goes to show how long these old tools can last. I'm glad you still have it.
Happy to see the bare metal finish😊
Thanks Brother me too. It was screaming for it.
That was almost a dynamic fall! I seen that…” I have multiple sizes of wire brushes”😂 great work as always.
Thanks Buddy!
"BDV" Big Damn Vise 😮 nice job Mr. George!
Thanks Big Brother!!💪💪
Great video and a very big vice thanks for sharing your time 🍺🍺👍👍👕
Thanks Brian! 🍺🍺🍻
Now that's a vise. I like the clear lacquer finish, looks great with just bare iron. Good thing that rainy day came along, great video.👍🏻
Mike, Mike, Mike! I filmed it a couple weeks ago just now put it out. I'm glad you liked it. I like the clean steel look and it seems to sell better in my area.
Love to see someone else warming up for the vice wrestling Olympics . And that's the quickest way by far to strip rust off a vise, should be an easy sell such a good size !!
Thanks Jim! I hope it goes fast! I don't want to keep moving it around the shop.
What a beautiful beast! Awesome job George! 😃👍
Thanks John!
That vise is fantastic. You will get a ton of use out of it. Thanks for sharing and have yourself a great day
Thank You.
Excellent vise. I definitely cheered when that brown came off. Looks so much nicer now. That was an unpleasant find with the weld but fortunately it’s done well. Should be a rock sold beast!
Thanks Man! The weld was done well and honestly I was more worried about finding bondo.
That is one big honkin' vise George! I like the bare metal look. Good job - it looks really nice!
Thank You Mr Bill. It's going up for resell and the bare metal seems to sell better in my area.
george what the f. my god that is a monster it looks like nut inside cracked in there at one point and they just welded it nice clean up good job see you next time brother
Hey brother Ronald!! This one is a beast for sure and I think you're right. I'm just happy they did a good job and there weren't any more surprises. Good to hear from ya and we'll catch up soon.
Sweet!
Thanks
Great Job George, you got a work horse for your shop...another 100-years of enjoyment...pleasure watching...thank you for sharing...
Thanks Uncle, It's a work horse indeed! Thanks for stopping by.
Beautiful
Thanks!
At first I thought all that patina was some red primer. What a vise! I have the 104 and 103 and used to want a 106 until I saw you manhandling it around the bench, not anymore! For sure it would end up on my foot! Great video brother and it came out really nice with just the clear coat.
Thanks David! The guy I bought it off of coated it with that rust ender primer. I usually don't like buying painted vises cause you don't know what's under it.
Badass! Great vise😎 It's time I start wearing a mask myself....
Thanks Bro!! I should wear it more often! When I'm grinding I try to always wear it!
like they say "Big Beard, big............ er ..Vise?" 🤣 good job Bud!
That's what they say Huh? 🤣🤣 Thanks for stopping in. It is good to hear from you.
She's a beast Super George! Looks great!
Thanks Captain Ivan! She sure is!!
Good grief !! That ways more than a bride!
😂
Wow. That is an amazing vise and a ton of work but worth every pound of sweat. The lacquer finish is perfect. It looks outstanding. Are you going to use it or sell it?
Thanks Mr. John. This one is going up for sell.
Nice find Gorge that thing is a beast 135 pounds definitely want that anchored down good my little 5 pound maybe 8 not sure but I know it’s not 10 pound vice is clamped to my table and it fell off and hit my foot and it sounded like I was speaking in tongues lol going to be bolting it down soon
Hey Don, Oh I bet you said some bad words. Lol. I was just worried about pinching a finger but I came out unscathed. This one is going up for resell.
@@Uwannawatch oh yeah I did lol I couldn’t imagine 135 pounds definitely a trip to the er no walking that off good luck with the resell that vice is a beautiful piece of steel especially after you got ahold of it
Would love to get my hands on a US made vise in Australia!!
I would love to get my hands on an Australia made vise in the US. Drop me an email.
Thats a vise 😊
Yes indeed it is! 😀👍
What a great vise George and a super job of restoration to it. Will the vise be mounted in your workshop to use on projects? Just wondering how it will fit into your plans. As always thank you for the video.
Hello Jack, No this one will be going up for sale. I have no need for it. Thank you for watching and always having something nice to say. I really do appreciate that.
Your welcome
It's lightweight in Boxing. ;-)
It weighs exactly as much as my wife. Lol
up in canada i have 2 of these, but they dont say REED, they are RAE. I suspect they bought the parts from reed and put their own letters on it. they are identical to this. The problem is that both of mine are BROKEN and ABUSED-- one has a totally missing chin, and one had a severed and re-brazed dynamic jaw. beggers can't be choosers I guess because to say these are rare in canada is a complete understatement.
Well Damn man drive on down to the states and pick this one up. LOL. Seriously that could be the case they are very similar to a Yost as well and I was worried I'd find a crack or bondo on this one. Cool you got 2 and when they are rare you just have to be happy with what ya got.
А зачем нужен выступ на пластине крепления к столу?, у меня 105 модель и от этого выступа тиски сильно торчат от стола, хочу его спилить
Does not look like the nut was ever cracked as one of the commenters stated unless there is something you did not show us? The nut looks fine and I could see no evidence of a drilled pin hole which is what most of these had from the factory. An oddball for sure but very interesting. You did it a great service by removing that awful brown primer......looks fantastic now!
Thank You, Yes there isn't any evidence for a pin hole. The nut seems fine as well. But why the weld? Quite strange indeed.
@@Uwannawatch the weld is necessary to prevent the nut from backing out. No need to ever remove the nut for most vises……we just remove them most times to clean everything out but again it’s not necessary. It’s an anomaly for sure but a cool one just the same!
Nice job! Did you make much of a profit on the resale?
I still have it.
@@Uwannawatch ah very good, it's a nice one
Curious, what’s a vise like that worth?
In my area they can fetch between 200 and 400.
