      If you see a white wire in a switch box with a black or red marking that means it is a hot. This method was used until 2011 when he code was changed. I am planning on making a video on switch wiring which might help.

    Hi quick question, I removed a ceiling fan the ceiling wires I saw inside my ceiling has 2 red wires connected together and 3 neutral wires connected together and one single orange wire. Now I’m replacing it with a modern light fixture which has black, white, and ground wire. Which wire should I connect the black wire to? Btw I live in the USA and it has a 3 way switch

    • @electriciantv5174
      @electriciantv5174  Před 3 lety +2

      You should connect it to the 2 red wires and cap the orange one. Because an orange wire means it has 208 volts between it and neutral and that will kill your light

      @@electriciantv5174 I did that but now my light doesn’t turn off from both 3 way switches so i thought I did something wrong up top now I know my problem is at the switches

    • @Ghost-hi1dw
      @Ghost-hi1dw Před 3 lety +2

      If your light doesn’t turn off I’m guessing that both the reds are constant power and your switch leg is your orange wire.

    • @electriciantv5174
      @electriciantv5174  Před 3 lety

      Idk if you have figured out this problem the black and red are hot wires and the second hot is probably because it is a split outlet meaning the 2 plugs are being powered by different phases do if this is the case make sure to break the brass tab on the hot side.

    Question: I have Red White and Black coming out of the J box in the crawl space. I am running power to a mini split and the Romex coming in only has Black white (and ground). Do I connect black to black or black to red. I assume white goes to white and ground goes to ground.

      @electriciantv5174  Před rokem

      It really doesn’t matter if you have a multi meter just make sure there is power on them. Both red or black could be used. I would personally choose the black just cause the colours will match

    Should not tell people to tackle live electrical wiring on youtube.
