It's funny seeing cars from my collection being talked about as history. Especially the slot cars. I still race slot cars from the 60's to this day. Many of the RC cars you talked about i still have in brand new condition. I raced an RC10 back in 1988 and still have them now, hell I've got a brand new one. Oh my god l'm old🤦🏻‍♂️.

I think the real breakthrough for R/C in cars was in the servos somtime in the mid 60s a servo was developed that had a lot more comtrol.
Prior to that servos were just an on /off switch which is probably what that 64 rc car had.
Tether cars date back to the 20s & they were going a lot faster than 60mph pretty early on.
The rail cars were a thing in the 50s possibly even the 40s & slot cars took over that in the late 50s.
A lot of the U.S start of R/C & R.O.A.R was from the slot car scene mainly in California some of the more mechanical minded guys as soon as technology (the servos & radio gear ) became available jumped straight on it.
A good example is Gene Husting of team associated a pioneer in slot cars & R/C.
Also I believe the Jerrobee was the first decent rtr rc car in about 70-71.

The very first Nitro RC car was the 1964 Feldmann from Germany. Probably the first RC car ever. Later in the 1960s, companies like Micart (1966) and Dynamic (1968) produced the first vehicles in series. Kyosho´s Dash 1 from 1969 was the first successful model.

I think the best tribute to Tesla's project is the use of his technology representated in Rockstar game Red Dead Redemption 2.
OK it is just a video game but so representative of the mentality of this period.
In the game, at St-Denis (Chapter 4 or over) we have the opportunity to elvolve with small RC boats (with evolving capaities of course like torpedos for the fun of the game). This is really Tesla's design. Of course this game is absolutely amazing with so many references to old and current events.

Thank you Nikola T, you gave us so much. My first RC car?. About 1975-ish, from Shucks Auto Parts. A two button mini steer wheel controlled Imsa car. Left, right, forward, back. Preset speed in either direction. Your speed was dependent on how fresh the batteries were. I liked doing the 'Jim Rockford" 180° spinouts in reverse with it, with the fresh batteries in. My last new Build?, A Xray XB808 4wd Buggy, that won me ALOT of races. Still have it. I found one of the limited edition 1/10 scale Mugen Seiki MST1 nitro trucks, still in the box, with Novarossi engine included. They only made them for a couple years. Going to put that one together soon. I am making a parts pile for it, because of the rarity.
