- Hey everyone!! I hope you're all having a great day! Before anything else, I just wanted to say that it has officially been a year since I posted my first cover! When I first started posting covers, I never anticipated the amount of love and support that I would get from all of you! Thank you guys so much, your support genuinely means the world to me! This week I decided to get a bunch of friends together and do a cover of a song that has been stuck in my head for WEEKS. (I also had a difficult time coming up with art to use for the cover, so I figured why not use some art of my favorite buff lady, Yasha, from Critical Role!) The cool part is he didn't even die after being shot, he ended up chasing them around the room before someone knocked him out. Then since there weren't sure if he was dead they decided to tye him up and throwing him into the river. Aside from being a great cover, this song just seems to sound better when sung by women. i.e. guys singing about how this man stole all their girls so they killed him, vs women singing about their awesome, charismatic lover who got killed when the other guys got jealous. It goes from a song sung by jealous aholes, to a song of celebration and mourning by the women he left behind who call out the murderers as cowards and incompetents

I don't know I always felt like it was very clear which parts were satirical, and that as a "party vibe" song about a historical figure being seen as a playboy that is capable of "chuck norris" feats, it sounds like a "he's so chad" kinda song.
He was killed by political enemies due to him gaining power and influence over the Russian queen and by proxy the royal court. Not cause he was stealing women lol. Him being a notorious womanizer had nothing to do with it.
As much as i appreciate your take on this, the song wasn't really written or sung from the PoV of a russian. It's more like an admiring history piece. Although i do agree that the song transforms quite heavily when it's sung by a woman for the very reason you explained, i just don't agree the original is sung by angry russian men who are trying to smear his reputation. There is too much awe and inspiration in the text for that to feel like the case. The song makes the act of killing him seem bombastic, which is something vendictive men would never do.
I am not english native speaker.
When I heard original of this song in radio I didn't understand 50% of words, they were mashed together and hard to distinguish. Your cover is sang so clear, I have no problem with understanding almost everything :)
