Will you resign? 'You SHOULD NOT have asked this question!' 😤 Didier Deschamps ⚽ Spain 2-1 France

  • France Coach Didier Deschamps said he would not resign and any questions over his future should be directed to the French Football President Philippe Diallo.
Diallo said before the tournament France had to reach at least the semi-finals - something they managed, despite struggling for goals.
Spain reached the European Championship final with a 2-1 victory over France on Tuesday with 16-year-old Lamine Yamal becoming the youngest-ever scorer at a major tournament.
France took an early lead when Randal Kolo Muani headed in a cross from Kylian Mbappé, who played without a mask, before Yamal’s moment of brilliance in the 21st minute. Dani Olmo scored what was to prove the winner four minutes later.
Spain, which is chasing a record fourth European Championship title, will play England or the Netherlands in the final on Sunday in Berlin.
They play each other in Dortmund on Wednesday.
There was surprise in Munich when Mbappe took to the field without the mask he has been wearing since getting his nose broken in France’s opening group game at Euro 2024.
Mbappe had been complaining the mask was impeding him, and ditching it appeared to have an immediate effect as he created the game’s opening goal in the ninth minute with a tantalizing cross to the back post that was headed in by Randal Kolo Muani.
That was the first goal France had scored at Euro 2024 that wasn’t a penalty or an own-goal. Fortunately for Les Bleus they had also been exceptional at the back, allowing just one goal, a retaken penalty by Poland’s Robert Lewandowski in the group stage.
But there was no stopping Yamal’s stunning equalizer in the 21st minute as he became the youngest player ever to score at a men’s European Championship - or World Cup - when he curled the ball past Mike Maignan and in off the left post from 25 yards.
And Spain turned the match around completely four minutes later when Olmo’s goalbound-shot was turned into his own net by France defender Jules Kounde. It was originally adjudged by UEFA to have been an own-goal but was later awarded to Olmo.
France dominated possession in the second half but couldn’t make it count.
Théo Hernández should have done better when he blazed a good chance over the bar late on, and Mbappé did similar with four minutes remaining.
Spain could have been further ahead between those chances as another powerful strike from Yamal flew narrowly over the crossbar.

When I was 18 years old Dechamps joined Chelsea, the team I folllowed, and I was working with a young French Lady who said that he was something of a cariciture in France because he spoke with a less refined French accent and she clearly had a less than favourable impression of him based on that. I remember Eric Cantona describing Dechamps as a 'water carrier' which didn't sound so flattering but I later learned alot about the sport of cycling where the 'water carrier' is the hard-working strong man who does everything for the success of the team and I have no doubt that's what Cantona meant. Decades later and I see the incredible succes Dechamps has had as both a player and International manager and I wonder how well France would have done without him, and I think the reporter SHOULD NOT have asked that question!
Dechamps is a legend and i think he will have sucess in whatever he does in the future. We definitely will not remember the name of whoever asked that ridiculous question.

    1. Spain played better and they deserved the win.
    2. N. Kante is France's best player in this tournament. His perfect replacement is urgently needed for preparation and the world cup itself.
    3. Griezmann has done well for France and we CANNOT forget that but this is the time to give younger ones a chance. Thank you Griezmann.
4.Didier! Our golden coach. You have made us all proud these years. Thank you for everything. I believe it is time to handover this job to someone else to continue from where you stopped.
    5. Zinedine Zidane: World cup qualifiers and the tournament itself. God bless France.

Slightly disrespectful question, everyone wants him to leave but not long ago he won the world cup and took a team full of injuries to a final. This is a good squad but it's a squad in transition and will only get better with time, talk about style of play all we want but his record has proven that he can take teams far into a tournament which should not be overlooked.
