I shared this moment with him and everytime I listen to the song I think of him. He's out in China now, teaching english. Had a 2 year run in with heroin. The time that stuck with me the most I was sitting in a closet at my parents house and after I shot up this song came on. And I drifted into a depressed bliss. Im now 3 years sober from heroin, and when I miss it, this song brings me back to that high. That peaceful sadness. And thats enough to get me by.

Sometimes we associate how we live in a city by how we interact with people who live there. You love a city when you love the people, and you hate it when you hate them. So I think there is a girl involved in his feelings towards the city. Like he had it all idealized, but then this girl came along and now he can't think of the city without thinking of her, so it's bringing him down.
