    This bit of film captures the excitement of fishing, the singing of the reel, it’s just spot on. They say that fisherman have three stages, wanting to catch lots, then big fish, then difficult fish. When I was in my thirties I chased about Scotland and Norway and finally caught some lunkers. But nowadays I only fish dry fly for wild trout from the start of the season to the end, usually a size 16 or 18, with a two pound tip. But it’s all to scale, when that 8 foot rod bends over into a half or one pound fish I could just as easily have hooked a fresh run salmon on a double hander. Well just Ian old boy, fish till you drop and be buried with a rod and fly box like a Viking king surrounded by his armour. All the best to anglers all over the U.K.

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  Před 2 lety

      I think that wee are somewhere in the same age bracket with the three stages of life and I was told by an old guy when I was a young teenager that the first stage was learning how to make money the second was making money and the third was spending all you can accumulate . Poor Dougie never had a chance to spend his money as he died shortly after retiring but he certainly left his mark on me . It sounds like you may have met Dougie and are enjoying life as much as he would had he lived .... Keep enjoying your fishing Tight Lines Cheers Iain . Ps I loved Norway all I caught was sea trout and char but the scenery was worth the visit

      @@IainSB Hi Ian , still working I am 60 but would love to retire and spend my time reading books and fishing, but our children have only just gone to university, I fish when I can, about 7 days this year. The Norwegians told me that char is the best fish to eat that there is. The Norwegians have got life sussed, they do a lot more of what they like than we do and don’t knock themselves out at work. Down here in the south is strange, very few real rivers, I go to Derbyshire to fish, lovely clear streams. You would like it. I used to live in Scotland when I was younger, my parents come from Helensburgh.

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  Před 2 lety

      The Norwegians have sensible government , when they started to extract the oil in the north sea they stored a lot of the revenue and invested our governments decided to give the EU a bigger share in our gross turn over and squandered the rest . Now the Norwegians have a better standard of living than most other countries ...... enough babbling and ranting . I must admit that I am fortunate that I am retired and dont think that I could survive on 7 days fishing a year and hope that you get a chance once you have finished investing in your children's future . All the best Cheers again Iain 🥃

    • @davidgray3321
      @davidgray3321 Před 2 lety

      @@IainSB Hi Ian good to be in touch, one BIG thing the Norwegians got wrong was salmon farming, it has turned their salmon fishing into a shadow of its former self and also damaging Scotland’s salmon and sea trout. Salmon farming is in the process of wrecking British Columbia as well. I really do wonder if envelopes change hands. It provides far less employment than rod and line angling does, why are the Scottish government to name but one so keen on it? It’s also not a healthy food, apart from that it’s great. A lot of Scottish MPs don’t like the old estates in the highlands, or the people who own them. I see a lot of agro between the government and the country Scott’s ahead. A bit like the past. Long may yer lum reek.

      I really appreciate your comment I would like to explain why I started adding videos to CZcams . 30years ago my wife Frances developed an auto immune disease called scleroderma and her heath has gradually worsened and about five years ago Frances spent some time in and out of hospital. I found that I was dinking a lot and decided to play at editing some videos from a GoPro that I had received for my Christmas to save me having a lot of sore heads. A young neighbour asked me how I was getting on and I mentioned my videos and he guided me through the stages of adding them to CZcams. It has over the past few years giver me something to do while sitting on my own while Frances has had an early night due to her illness . Last year I was only out fishing for an hour or so but still managed a couple of videos until my last trip that I made on the 5th August . Frances's health has worsened and a few years ago she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and now on 14ltrs of oxygen per minute and requires a lot of care . Frances kept me going with my fishing trips until she was unable to care for herself and that has given me the strength to look after her when she needs me most . we have nurses come visit and palliative care. Frances is in a lot of pain from other problems that have joined forces to make her life horrendous......... I am glad that others get pleasure from my efforts and hope that it helps bring back memories of there own fishing trips . take care of yourself Jesse because I know how much effort there is in looking after others Cheers Iain 🥃

    Well a great video, fish landed, fish lost, but for me that was a successful day on the river.
    Have you any reason why fish cone off, are they tentatively mouthing the fly, not really going for it.

      What a day Paul It was an early start I was up before 5am to drive there for 8.30 and by the time it was getting dark I was so tired but the site of fish splashing kept me going . I could have extended the video by another hour if I had added all the fish that had splashed . I think that some of the seatrout were hitting the fly that quick that they were lightly hooked . I love the speed that seatrout grab the fly and then scream off but the noise of a big salmon stripping yards and yards of line gets me every time. Looking forward to my next trip 😊 Cheers Iain 🥃

      I agree with your Dad but its not always the fish listen to the anglers . I thought that the fish that took at the bottom of the pool would have stayed on when the line was dragging from behind but it was not to be Jim . I think that when fish are just nipping at the fly as most did that day (being hooked lightly at the front of there mouths ) they have the decision whether you can get behind them or not

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  Před 2 lety

      Sorry about the time taken to respond Christian. The rod I am using at Lower Pitchroy is a 12ft Hardy Demon 7weight and the reel is a J.W.Young (I use them on most of my rods). the line is a Rio AFS 8weight with a floating polly tip. When I fish at Cardrona or the River Halladale I use a 7 weight Bloke Switch rod with a Rio Scan Short Line and a 5 ft Floating poly tip. When I fish on bigger rivers such as the Tay I will normally use my Shakespear 14ft 9in Oracle Scandi with an Airflow 10/11 compact and various tips . When the water gets cold I will use a Sage 12ft9in for a 9weight and I have 10/11 Skaget with various lengths of T weighted tips . I also use a Guideline 10/11 multi tip head depending on river levels. I have other rods but the afore mentioned are the ones I use most . I hope that this helps . Cheers Iain. 🥃
