    I have a 1999 Honda CBR600F4 with 105,000 km's (65,243 Miles) and I was thinking of replacing my clutch plates this year. When I do my next oil change I'm going to inspected the plates and springs first. I got a new clutch cable already and with some new Michelin Road 5 tires and a DID chain I think my bike will feel new. Nice video.

    Always undo any mechanical covers in a star pattern to eliminate accidentally warping it. Also never re use gaskets. It could cost you a lot more than a gasket in the long run.

    • @laughingdog1125
      @laughingdog1125 Před 4 lety +2

      just cut your own from a sheet of gasket

    • @TheAoperator
      @TheAoperator Před 2 lety +2

      So if you are not reusing gasket, then how youlosen bolts doesn't matter.
      It's when you tighten upon a new gasket
      Go in star pattern snug first then walk up the torque. 30 yr mech/ engineer

    The last friction plate goes on turned one tooth gap in relation to the ones before it. Also I think that thin metal plate at the back is a judder spring, it helps smooth the clutch engagement. The 09-14 R6's didn't have them any they were really jerky when taking off.

    Not knocking the video good video, however couple thing I wish to point out. Beveled edges face out and reason being when the clutch is disengaged the rounded edge is what rides on the basket when faced out. The last plate is turned to the side like you did and that not just how some guy did it that’s how it’s done in the service manual as well. Safe riding.

    So I bought an EBC Street Racer Clutch Kit for my GSX-R and tried to put it in. Two clutch spring bolts snapped off, great. But what I noticed while putting in the friction plates was that the friction plates didn't have any paint on them but the manual clearly states that all the friction plates (besides the first one) are painted to tell the last one apart from all the other ones inbetween.Do you know if this is normal? Are the EBC friction plates just all the same except the first?

  • @trevorplaysguitar
    @trevorplaysguitar Před 8 lety +2

    Great video! Wish I followed exactly as I changed mine out, I didn't offset the outermost friction plate. I put about 7 miles on the new clutch and had really bad slippage, I'm hoping that's the source of the problem. Would not offsetting the last plate cause the clutch to slip a lot? Really hoping I didn't wear down my new clutch right away

    • @centersnare32
      @centersnare32  Před 8 lety +1

      +Trevor Leivas The offset wouldn't make a difference as it is optional. You don't have to offset it. It sounds like you need to adjust your clutch height. Refer to the 5:40 mark of this video on instructions on how to do that. Let me know if it helps thanks!

      Yea man I played snare at Magnolia HS, in Anaheim CA. Going to be doing DCI this year!
      You in battery or what?
      The Level One Racing pipe is pretty nice, I paid around $600 for the full setup so it wasn't too expensive. I have it tuned with my power commander III and it gives off a nasty sound. You can get the slip on for around $300 online. I might put a video up showing it off.
      I used a Barnett performance clutch for around $200 and couldn't be happier with it's performance. Hella grab, more effective engine braking and clutch up wheelies with no problem. I think it's considered a lightweight clutch too.

    • @EzkPalacio
      @EzkPalacio Před 9 lety

      No way! I was Percussion Captain at North Monterey County HS! I can play, but I can't read music very well.. I would have tried out for DCI! One of my twitter buddies did DCI, actually. He got me to consider doing it, but money..
      Full setup as in full exhaust, right? If that's the case, I think I might have to let go of my slip on and order that along with a PC! Maybe.. I'm assuming it'll waste quicker than a heavier clutch, correct?

    @TWUANX2 Před 9 lety +1

    After u installed the new plates and fibers did u have to make any major adjustments ? I'm having a problem with my clutch on my 2013 gsxr 600

    • @centersnare32
      @centersnare32  Před 9 lety +1

      Yes most of the time you will have to make a small adjustment after installing a new clutch because the new stack will be thicker than your old one. Typically you would experience more slack in the clutch cable or have to pull the lever in all the way to barely engage the clutch.
      To fix this issue, unscrew the little square knob that is centered on the clutch cover. After it is off you should see that pin in the middle of the clutch. I believe you need a flat head screw driver to undo the screw just a little, then you will need a wrench to turn the bolt counter clockwise so the pin comes toward you and it will eventually stop. Do not continue unscrewing after it touches the face plate. Now tighten the center screw to lock it in place. You have now "zeroed" your clutch. Any further adjustments will be made at the lever itself. Hope it helps

    • @centersnare32
      @centersnare32  Před 9 lety

      Disregard that second half of my last post. After you take the little cover off, you have to use the wrench and a Phillips screw driver at the same time. Turn the wrench counter clockwise to loosen the smaller hex bolt. After you loosened it a few turns you need to tighten the Phillips screw inwards. This will cause the pin to be pushed toward you. Stop when the bearings touch the face plate. Now tighten the smaller hex bolt to lock it in.

      @@centersnare32 they all have the flat and convex washers at the back, anti rattle I think, that is why the first fibre has a larger ID so both washers fit inside it

      +Tim Elliott I honestly don't know why there's an extra ring. My best advice would be to put all the parts that came out, back in, in the order you took them out.

    Awesome! Are your friction plates worn out ?! Because mine are not that bad as a matter of fact I went to the a professional and he told me that they are not that bad so he said the problem might be the adjustment of the cultch ! Idk. This problem occurred all of the sadden while riding !

      +centersnare32 Can you pleeeeaaaassseeee do a video of this quality on the adjustment. I'm on a 06 600, which is identical as far as clutches go to yours, but I'm lost on the adjustment.

      Should be the same oil you use for your motor , they share same oil
