From a stellar penalty kill that killed off all five Oilers penalties, to J.T. Miller's clutch go-ahead goal with 33 seconds remaining, Phil "baby legs Di Giuseppe scoring after the birth of his child and Elias Pettersson playing much better, there were NO PASSENGERS! The Canucks can wrap up the series on Saturday night with a knockout punch. Im so sick of people saying that EDM has a higher ceiling. No, they don't because they don't have, and have never had, goaltending or defensive depth. With Drai and McD I think they could win even they had even one of those two things but they don't have either. Vancouver has a better overall roster, full stop. That was true before the series started and its showing out now.
My thoughts exactly. I knew EDM wasn’t as deep as we were and that it would only be a matter of time before people saw it for their own eyes.
They have the best player in the world on their team backed by a top 5 in Draisaitl. Their ceiling is higher, but it seems that the Oilers need everything to go right for this to happen in the playoffs.
Hopefully they can continue with this level of effort and put them away next game.
The problem with what Frank is saying about EDM’s roster having a higher ceiling and Skinner starting in game 6 because his ceiling is higher than Pickard’s is that it doesn’t take into account what is actually happening on the ice. It’s what happens when you abandon what your eyes are seeing in favour of analytics.
Is Skinner a better overall goalie than Pickard? Probably, but he’s not *right now* which is all that matters. Has Edmonton’s defence been keeping Vancouver to the outside? Sure, but they’ve also been allowing Vancouver to cycle in their zone with relative ease which invites pressure, bad bounces and bad things to happen, which they have.
Analytics have their place because they tell what’s true over time. But it’s also why there’s no time they matter less than in single game elimination scenarios like what Edmonton is facing now.

The surprising part to me about games 4 & 5 was how well the Oilers’ goalie played. I thought they were going to be cooked after Skinner was chased out of the net.

IMO Edm may have been forced to play more defensive in 4 and 5 getting away from the high flying offence they may have been more used to during the season or rd.1, however not taking anything away from Pickards performance, he has played well
Rutherford deserves a damn statue.
There are no statues of the GMs that got us to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. So it will take one more win than those GMs, then he can have a statue.

With Petterson and Lindholm on the same line , we now have three lines that drive play. So oiler’s are in trouble!
Funny thing goaltending or def for Edm the talk but no one seems to be talking about where Hymans been, 1 point since game 1.

This seems like an odd thing to say, but Silovs should stay in the net until he falters. Demko should be backup until that happens once he’s healthy.
Honestly if we get past the Oilers and play Dallas and beat Dallas I’m going to recite this interview (w/ Frank) with yet another Canucks doubter.
What will it take for people to realize that the Canucks are a hard team to play against. His quote was that whoever makes it out of this round is going to get their lunch handed to them. That’s what they said with EDM. That’s all right we’ll just keep playing the underdog role.

Lmao Frank just cant proper credit to The Canucks. Now hes saying the Oilers defense isnt as good as the Canucks.
Remember statistics are interpretive. If The Oilers are giving up the fewest high danger scoring chances, its entirely possible that those chances are low based on how McDavid and Draisaitl are constantly in possession of the puck and thus the Oilers are mostly on offense. It doesnt mean that The Oilers defense isnt leaky. Ill admit that it is possible that the problem might be goaltending aswell, however Pickard is playing well and The Oilers are still getting scored on. Something else is missing in this equation.
Having said that, Id pick the Canucks defense over the Oilers defense any day of the week. The Canucks defense has thus far been rock solid.
Frank has been extra smug during the playoffs.

edm has not had to defend that much, because canucks have been ahead and playing off their back foot, edm played McDavid and Draisiatl togethrr for 30 mins...what team is in their own end with that up front?....Edm will get exposed again in game 6
