    The history of this movie was discussed in Jackie Chan's autobiography "Jackie Chan:My Life in Action". That "favor movie" kept Mr. Chan out of cluches of a powerful Chinese Triad criminal group.

      Makes me glad Jackie got the recognition he did in America around the time Rumble In The Bronx came out and that because of that he became even more famous and wealthy. I grew up watching Jackie Chan, mostly his mid 80's to late 90's movies when I was but a child.

    The story of Jackie Chan being in "Fantasy Mission Force" is that Jackie was stuck in a contract with Lo Wei, a movie director who had triad connections. When Jackie wanted out, Lo threatened him with the triads. Wang Yu, who also had triad connection got him out of said contract but as a favor to Wang Yu, Jackie had to star in this and another movie, 1990's "Island of Fire". P.S. "Super Inframan" is also actually a Hong Kong film too.

      @GTONeko Před 8 lety +38

      That's right! I forgot about that issue with the triads and all, seriously. Back in the day for A&E, they had a show called Biography and they did one on Jackie Chan. One of the things that were mentioned for the early 90's was how he and other actors in Hong Kong at the time, had a kind of demonstration to try and go against the bad triads that pulled stunts like this for him and Wang Yu.

    The favor that Wang Yu called in to get Jackie in the movie was that he negotiated a deal that saved Jackie from the Triads. They were attempting to strong arm Chan into going back to his crooked, original director Lo Wei. While this was going on Jackie was smuggled out of Hong Kong for about a year. There was even doubts that he would be allowed to return.

    Hey Brandon, big fan from Taiwan...
    Just want to chip in my two cents... This was actually a Taiwanese movie, with the director and most of the cast members being Taiwanese. Back then the Taiwanese Mafia bosses had a shit load of money that needed laundering and they figured making movies are one of the good ways to do so... So the comments I saw here indicating Jacky Chen being in this movie due to the troubles he was in with the Triad was not exactly accurate, as there is still a difference between the Taiwanese Mafia and the Hong Kong Traid...
    I mean, sure the Hong Kong Traid was definitely controlling the movie industries in Hong Kong, but this one is on the Taiwanese Mafia...

    The craziest thing about Fantasy Mission Force is that there's another movie called Fire Dragon (1987) which is essentially this movie, but with the scenes cut together differently and it's a somewhat different plot. You can find the movie on CZcams and you can tell that a majority of the scenes are shared between the 2 movies. All of the character introductions in Fantasy Mission Force are cut down into a backstory montage and the extra time goes to explaining the new plot. All the scenes with Jackie Chan's female partner in Fantasy Mission Force are entirely cut from Fire Dragon and instead, Jackie is just friends with Lily and the plot revolves around the Asian Nazis, no mention of Ally generals. They also spend a lot of time at the Amazonian camp and skip the haunted mansion bit. After the major shootout where everyone dies, the Asian Nazis get the money and the other new main character launches a raid on their camp with ninjas, I don't even remember the name of Fire Dragon's other main character. It's kind of like how Call of Duty Black Ops 3 had their campaign, but then it also had the zombies campaign where it had the same cut scenes, but with different dialogue which ended up changing the meaning of what's happening in the story. Same scenes but different plots, it's kind of trippy when you watch both of these movies and see where the weird cuts from one movie is because of scenes from the other.

    The favour Chan owed Wang Yu, is that when Chan was physically kidnapped by triads following his contract dispute with Lo Wei, Wang Yu went in to "discuss" with fellow triads, of a different branch, and after the discussion ended with Wang Yu beating 7 shades of hell out of everyone else, Chan was released... Also the reason Chan later appeared in Island on Fire

    One of the reasons so many Asian martial-arts movies have dance numbers (not all, of course, but more than you'd expect) could have to do with the fact that Jackie Chan and many of his associated action stars were originally trained as children in a school for traditional Chinese "opera", more or less. Just some background on the undead that appear: the one that pops out of the coffin is a jiang shi (the closest Anglicization I could manage, and I apologize for messing it up) or hopping vampire. The reason they hop is because they're suffering from rigor mortis, so they can't move their limbs very well, which is where the odd gait comes from. As this movie demonstrates (in humorous fashion), they're not slowed down much by this impediment, and they can be quite intelligent, depending on who's telling the story. Who's telling the story can also make their purported powers vary quite a lot as well, though one of my personal favorites is how they can't see very well, but can immediately sense if someone around them breathes, allowing them to hunt that person down unless they hold their breath.
    As for the ghosts in the toilet, well, Chinese and Japanese toilets *are* pretty darn scary, in many places consisting of a literal dark hole in the floor leading to who the heck knows where. Needless to say, children who have to go in the middle of the night have made up stories about all sorts of terrifying entities that lurk down there, most of them involving hands that reach up to grab you at the worst possible times.

      @TheKungFuRobber Do you know if it will work on a US BluRay player? My wife got me digitally remastered DVDs for the Lucky Stars trilogy not realizing it was for Region 2, and I was only able to eventually watch them by using Handbrake.

    Jimmy Wang Yu, the top billed actor in this film, was also the main star in One Armed Boxer, a Shaw brothers classic. That's another good one worth seeing that would be right up your alley with these types of films.

    Hell with the cocaine - they should have chosen heroin and called this movie CHASING THE RED DRAGON!!!... well, if Thomas Harris already didn't take the last part of the title, that is. Jackie Chan has done better movies but this has got to be the one that is OFF THE F#$@IN' CHAIN! Seriously, how long will it be before we get one like this in the future? Nice fireplace by the way!

    The opening scene where the Japanese officer is surprised by all the Allied Generals he just captured reminds me of the opening scene of "The Secret War of Harry Frigg". Several Allied Generals are in a sauna in North Africa arguing over the best way to invade Italy when they are captured by some Italians. The scenes (aside from the names) are identical.

    This is what happens when Mao' s youth revolution in China burns too many books. Decades later they don't know who fought in the second World War, when it was fought or where it was fought. In all seriousness though, a hilariously bad, but fun movie.

    Rumor has it the only reason this movie was made, and a "fact" that broke the friendship between Jackie Chan and Don Wen for quite a while, was because Wen was deeply in debt to the Triads, and needed to put out something quick to try and get out of debt.
