Visiting the Lost Capital of WW2 Czechoslovakia
Vložit
- čas přidán 8. 02. 2023
- On the 1st of October 1938, the German army crossed the borders of Czechoslovakia to occupy its first territory - Sudetenland. One of the largest cities of this occupied district was Reichenberg, which will become Sudetenland's new capital. Interestingly, most Czechs nowadays wouldn't be able to point out on the map, where Reichenberg was. It's not that the city disappeared. It till today exists, under a completely different name: Liberec. In today's video, we will explore the history of Reichenberg and how it was connected to WW2 Czechoslovakia. Don't worry! We will also show you some cool things to do in Liberec in case you decide to go there for a day trip from Prague!

I love Valerie's accent so much! She is a joy to watch, keep more videos coming.
Valery is cool. Love the snowballs and her yet unrequited dream to visit the mountain without walking
She has such a cheerful demeanor. She makes history fun.
Congrats for 20k subscribers!! You guys deserve way more!
Thank you!!!

Wow - who knew? Thank you - very informative. Keep the great videos coming!
This is quite an impressive vid. I visited Liberec last year, liked it a lot - but now I see I missed so much! And kudos for bringing some of those difficult topics from the past, we cannot be ignorant of them. Will definitely look for more!
Fascinating and enjoyable as always! Thanks V
RPG‘s!!! Covering all aspects of CZ culture!!! You always do a great job, it’s o wonder your channel is growing.
You are the best, most personable tour guide on CZcams! Due to health, I no longer am able travel. So I travel vicariously by watching videos. None of the other hosts can match your wit and personality. I would love it if you did videos on other countries. Like Lithuania, Finland and other Northern European states. Maybe create a new channel.
Thank you, that’s very sweet! It’s a great idea, maybe one day we will attempt that.
Great! Another place I'll have to add to the list of places to visit!
Seal: Cold?!?! It is down right balmy. I am going to cool off with a swim.
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Absolutely beautiful architecture. Great video!!
Congratulations! 20K subscribers!! Always a thumbs-up.
Amazing, glad I found this channel! Subscribed.
We always enjoy your videos but this one was really fun. The snowball gag was 👌
Very nice historical info. Now I'd like to visit Liberec when I visit Prague again. Nice annotations by Valery and how presented with clear voice and added comedic moments. 👍😉
Well done on your subscriptions...I'm sure there are many more to come Liberec is stunning, and the snow just adds to it's beauty. The Pandas are cute...but not as cute as you😉Like you, I am awestruck in the presence of Elephants - truly magnificent animals.
Its always such a pleasure to catch your videos!! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Great Video! I had no idea that Liberec was so beautiful. Thank You!
I'm from the Philippines and I love watching your vids I hope I will be able to tour on your country one day ❤️

I really love this video ❤
The bus stop is really amazing. Must see!
I really enjoy your videos! Did you or are you planing a tour of Slava Praha football museum?
7:24 Architectures were beautiful. Hoping that someday I can visit your place❤ Watching your videos from the Philippines😊
Ferdinand Porsche is also from this town. OK, he is from Jablonec, that is a twin city with Liberec
Hi guys, lovely to see Liberec. It has a really good curry house and the Konrad brewery ( that has rehearsal rooms in it). Get in touch if you want to go to Ještěd as i have a 4x4.
4WD?
Nice glasses Valerie, they suit you
A nice introduction to this part of Bohemia by a very pleasant young lady guide. The humorous presentation without the God-awful over-the-top American style is greatly appreciated. 😊
Sadly, during my traveling years, I never seized the opportunity to fully cover the Czech Republic even though I had an expat Moravian friend who traveled back many times. Only 1 visit - to see the birthplace of my ancestors who emigrated first to Saxony and thence to Australia in the 1860s. I also enjoyed Prague - well apart from having my small stills camera stolen by a young lady pickpocket in the castle. 🙄 😉
Kondrad Henlein .....good school teacher from Reichenberg 🙂
interesting 😮
Red pandas are cool!
How do I get there from Prague using public transportation? I'm going back to Prague in August
Take Regiojet bus, it’s 1 hour drive
5 days and I'll be there 😁
How about the FOOD ??? 🌭🌭🍗🍗🍖🍖🥩🥩
On 10 May 1945, while in American captivity in the barracks of Pilsen, Heinlein committed suicide by cutting his veins with his broken glasses. He was buried anonymously in the Plzeň Central Cemetery.
His mother, Hedvika Anna Augusta Dworatschek (Dvořáčková), was the daughter of a family of Czech and German Bohemian origin. weird!
Liberec looks like an original German city
Ah, yes. The history of the Czech republic. The unfortunate history of the Czech republic. At least before the 1940s the Czechs didn't do any super crazy stuff did they?
liberets
Jahrhundertelang deutsches Siedlungsgebiet,
Rusové byli horší
Hitler was the Christ,he was a witcher this events happened right after the Christ events in Jerusalem.
Cause History laps of times are not as they wright in the books.
Ernesto Cheguevara was God,a great ninja.
The other czech must be a angel and those facilities a way to go to heavens or an other paradise.
The geniuses, salvage gods, like me we prefer to stay on earth or to go into the void.
There is nothing controversial about benes decrees and expulsion of germans, after the ww2 and the things the germans did, they were very lucky that they were allowed to leave. It may look cruel now, but try imagining living through ww2 as a czech.
You are talking about civilians that were born there and you support ethnic cleansing which is a crime against humanity
@@jerrymiller9039 the only ones doing ethnic cleasing were the germans. And most these civilians supported mr adolf. And as i said before, if you were a czech during ww2, and the germans for example killed your whole family, you had little reason to have any sympathy for them.
And no, im not supporting murdering of civilians.
@@kostihouse When you drive out a group based on their ethnicity such as German then yes you are ethnic cleansing and yes the Czechs did that AFTER the war.
@@jerrymiller9039 you can call it whatever you want, but in my opinion the germans should consider themselves lucky that after ww2 their whole country wasnt just splitted to pieces and the people werent moved (not hurt) somewhere to the end of the world. After what they did, it would be perfectly justifiable.
@@kostihouse you think just like Hitler
the architect of that museum (he was born in Lviv) designed a :OT of stuff in Praha and also Vídeň and karlovy

this video makes me want to visit Liberec. actually a plan would be Liberec, Gorlitz )Zhořelec) DE and Zgozelec Poland - they are right across the border and the 3 towns are apparently in one of those euroregions
Loved the zoo video!
