@Ferris Wheeler Thank you. I've actually made peace with my Afib episodes. I've had several since I was dx with my first one ever in August of last year.
I have learnt methods of bringing myself back into normal sinus rhythm. Usually takes from a few minutes up to an hour or so. But I don't panic anymore. It's just something I have come to accept and live with. I do NOT let it rule or dominate my life!!😉

My cardiologist became very excited when I told him that after listening to several of your videos on A-Fib and Extra Heartbeats, I had become bummed out by the idea of having lost 15% of my heart strength until I realized that I still have 85% left and maybe I could strengthen that portion to compensate. I now walk a min of 4 miles 2 or 3 times a week and up it to 5 - 7 miles at least once a week, if not twice. The other days I rest LOL But I do try to be more active overall and I have you to thank for it. After I told my cardiologist about your videos, I told him that I have decided that if I am going to die (which one of the residents had told me was going to happen "soon" the last time I was in Vanderbilt Univ Med Center - Jan '16 - and I had gone around for 9 months, thinking that I should plan my funeral before my cardiologist told me that my heart had repaired itself although it still is in A-Fib so I was NOT going to die...which definitely made my day! LOL), I was going to go out on my own terms and if that meant keeling over from too much exercise, so be it. That was when my cardiologist cracked a joke ... which is very unusual for him ... that maybe he had "created a monster!" ... I did not correct him by telling him that actually it was you who was the creator ;) I always enjoy your videos and am getting a good education from them.
    THANK YOU, Dr. Sanjay! :D

One question I have for you is if you have found any connection between tyramine rich foods and palpitations. According to some of the internet articles I have read, foods that are high in tyramine such as aged cheeses and meat or overripe fruits, can cause palpitations (and migraines). I'm 23 years old, 1.80 meters tall, and weigh 78 kg. I've been an athlete all my life, but since around 2020, I started to notice several additional heartbeats after finishing my training sessions (during the recovery period). I often associate the first occurrences with my last years of engineering, where I experienced a lot of anxiety. The thing is, since then, despite having overcome the anxiety issues, the supraventricular extrasystoles (PAC's) have persisted. I've been checked by various doctors in different countries, and all of them tell me they are benign or that I don't have enough at rest to warrant an ablation, but this reality doesn't help me at all because what matters to me is to do sports without discomfort or worry. From doing all kinds of physical activity, it's already been 3 years where I've had to limit myself to static weight lifting or very gentle cardio, and this has me extremely frustrated. Every time I push myself a bit further, they occur after the training session. I've never had them during the exercise, it's always when I finish, and living with the constant worry that they will occur is shitty

    Dear Doctor
Thanks for your video and I'd like to share my experience about pvc.
I'm 35 years old, I have always been fit, hard work out at the gym and playing martial arts. I always had episodes of a singular pvc in any moments of the day, not everyday though, but I tell what I actually can feel in my chest.
I never got scared and I was just a little curious about theese stronger beats.
Anyway, 7 years ago I moved out of my country and I had to stop all my trainings because of my jobs. 3 years ago I opened my own business and I went through a lot of stress.
Pvc's became more frequent and often followed by tachycardia.
Then I finally decided to put an end at it.
I ran some tests at the hospital, we found out that I'm super healthy :), my blood pressure has always been not over 130/85 at 55 bpm.
My mythral valve is just a little prolapsed, but according to my cardiologist that's not a problem at all.
I decided to go back to the gym, getting fit again, and I'm taking 25 mg of concor. It's almost 3 months I'm working out and taking this beta blocker. I feel great again.
Thanks to the medication that also lower down my blood pressure a little and the exercise.
I still have 1 or 2 pvc a day not every day. It's very tolerable.
My hotler test showed up I had 17 pvcs and 3 pacs in 24H. Not bad at all.
I'm very positive about my condition, being more worried wouldn't help, or it actually would give me anxiety and consequently more pvcs and tachycardia.
Be positive guys out there, do some exercise, that's the best medicine you can have!

In the video, the doctor mentions 10% and over are considered frequent ectopics. That means if you get 70 bpm, then 7 of those beats are interrupted by a PVC. In 24h, you will have 10,080 PVCs.
I would say anything over 2000 PVC per day calls for beta blocker (if the patient is symptomatic).

Hi Dr Gupta. I've been watching your youtube channel for quite some time now. I've been experiencing ectopic beats for many years and have noticed the burden increase considerably over the past several months. My ectopics actually go away with exercise. Is this reassuring? I just got an echo and waiting for the results to come back prior to a scheduled sestaMIBI scan and holter monitor. Can structural heart disease be excluded solely on an echo or would a cardiac MRI need to be done? If I'm deemed a suitable candidate for catheter ablation, what happens if the source of my ectopics are not LVOT? Will the success rate be less and potential procedural complications be higher? Thanks. Your videos help immeasurably.

Are PVC's considered ectopics? I had up to 40% (40K) PVC's per day at the height of my arrhythmia. But, when I exercised, they went away, most of the time. I did have a somewhat successful ablation procedure and my PVC's went down to about 12% (12K) per day. Considered another ablation but my Cardiologist suggested blood pressure medication to help control the rhythm of my heart. I take spironolactone, bystolic, and losartan. They have virtually eliminated any PVC's over the last 12 months or so. Do these medications have any long term negative consequences?

I have been told by my GP that when I am experiencing these weird heart rhythms that I need to get on the treadmill. (love being a bigger patient and having every ailment blamed on weight!) I get them frequently when I am hungry, or if I have eaten, after exercise, and at night when I am trying to sleep. I originally thought it was from food getting stuck in my esophagus as I have a lap band. I also have a low heart rate for my fitness level, around 50-55 at rest, and this is when my ticker really gets going with extra heart beats!
My questions are: can vegas nerve damage/irritation from lap band cause these symptoms (being onset is during hunger/after eating food and there is pain in the top of my mouth/soft pallet from the force of the extra beat) Or can low BGLs (around 3.8-4.1 when I 'feel' hungry) influence the cause of the extra heart beats? I have a family history of heart disease, my father died at 45 years old of a heart attack and had open heart surgery for aortic stenosis (congenital) when he was 17 years old..No one is listening to me and the extra heart beats are freaking me out! (especially when I get pain and dizziness) All my blood work has come back normal and ECG was normal too (was not having symptoms at the time).

The rate of these ectopics are every 5-8 beats and when you’re heart is beating fairly quick after excercise the feels like every 4 beats. and they occur for hours after excercise. In the gym I lift weights but not super heavy. After a set I put the weight down and they then begin to happen rapidly during the “recovery phase” between each set, so as my heart rate comes back down. • @matthewutley5370
    @matthewutley5370 Před 4 lety +2

I had an echo and stress test in late 2016 following an episode of atrial fibrillation. Everything was normal: felt great on the treadmill, no issues, heart is "perfect size" and is "very strong structurally strong". I was 29 at that time, and 33 now. Recently, I've been experiencing the ectopic beats only during very strenuous exercise (e.g. digging a garden bed) but I'm fine with a walk or a jog, playing with the kids, etc. Family history of early heart disease (heart attacks before 45-50). Mild hypertension controlled with 25mg Atenolol. Otherwise no known issues. What gives? It makes me scared to exercise sometimes. Even affects sex life most times, and that really sucks. I get that "skip" or "flutter" several times in a row. As soon as I stop the strenuous stuff, the skipping goes away entirely. It only started within the past several months, didn't have these issues before. Keep in mind I'm a regular smoker, don't exercise regularly, but I'm not over- or underweight. Also, history of severe anxiety, excess caffeine consumption, and history of palpitations (diagnosed with benign PACs/PVCs in 2015). I've never blacked out, never been close to it. No other symptoms - no shortness of breath, dizziness, etc. Heart rate is also quite normal, maybe 80s or 90s at the very most.

    • @gloriamaryhaywood2217
      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 Před 3 lety +3

Try hard to quit smoking and cut back on your caffeine consumption, AND add a daily dose of highly absorbable magnesium. See if that starts to help your skips and flutters. I'm betting that it Will!😉With a family history of heart disease and early heart attack, it only makes sense to go on the defensive early on.
Wishing you all the Good luck!☺

Im 22 years old I had pericarditis about 6 months ago and had it for around 3 months was in the hospital twice they kept me over night the second time because my troponin levels were very elevated i was then released after my troponin levels went down about 3 months later after I thought the pericarditis went away, I then started having feelings of fainting one day when I was in class I felt my legs go stiff and started sweating and getting clamy. I went to the hospital and then again my troponin levels were high now 2 months later I still have trouble exercising I feel during simple things like walking or standing my heart rate goes up 25-30 beats a min when I workout my heart rate is normal for working out 120-140 beats a min but I feel like I’m having the fainting feeling again and get shortness of breath and my heart seems like it’s beating hard.My resting heart rate is perfect 58-62 beats a min. The doctors said that my heart is in good shape and that everything is normal it’s been 6 months since I has pericarditis and since I had it I feel as my body has never recovered even tho the doctors say I’m in perfect heart health. I also have GERD so idk if that is causing the shortness of breath.

this sounds very familiar! i have POTS (postural orthostaric tachycardia syndrome). to put it simply: it causes heart rate to go up significantly when you stand or sit up. and POTS can be brought on after infections and periods of prolonged rest. it sounds like maybe after your illness you could have developed it? i suggest you go to potsuk.org it’s a great website with a lot of good info. POTS can cause all types of symptoms including digestive issues. i have GERD myself, weakness, feeling faint, dizzy, shortness of breath, fatigue, etc. good news is that POTS is not dangerous, and most will learn to manage their symptoms and live a normal life.

I only get the skipped and flip flop beats after movement that elevates my heart rate. It seems like it happens every time and only on the cooldown. I stopped exercising and even scared to climb up my steps because of the beats. Is there any solution 😢?!

I'm slim, exercise at least 3-4x per week, daily BP usually between 109-125 over 60-75 with pulse at 55-75 on average. I still get palpitations and seconds of feeling like my heart stops for a second and then fast pulse after. More frequent but random when I exercise or if my adrenaline gets going.

@@carlosmelendez8317 i was exactly the same for the last 3 months. Started in July when i woke one morning at 3am with racing heart. I was hyperventilating. Called ambulance snd they did ecg nothing was found. Was in that cycle of checking my own blood pressure sugar amd oxygen for 2 months. I've had ecgs blood tests and today i had echo. The only thing they found once is ectopics. These as Dr Gupta said everyone has.
First of all make sure you get checked out . As long as your bloods ecgs etc show no structural or underlying causes then its normal. Nothing to worry about.
Use meditation, calming music breathing exercises. Most of it made worse by our thinking. I get the odd palpatations at night but i just let it be. Breathe then sleep.

7:27 I would definitely not mess with my ventricles. They are literally creating scar tissue, just what happens in a heart attack, which obviously weakens the heart muscle. The whole analogy I have for this ablation business is hitting the heart with a hammer until it’s so weak it can’t pull off these tricks anymore.
