Basically they have a certain style and a certain singing strategy that the contestant has to reach and that’s when they turn around when they hear what they’re looking for

Just my humble opinion but I believe the reason alot of the judges are reluctant to turn is because of their short comings IE they may be a balad singer and they don't think they can coach a rock singer. They need a more balanced panel of judges.
I can’t stand the song “I am telling you”. It is musically a terrible song, but it’s great to hear a singer’s range. It’s more like scales than a song to me.

A judge in Australia said that they are told by the producers not to turn quick. They have to make things as "dramatic" as possible.
