  • Silent Hill: Revelation (2012) is really something to behold. In this video, I go through the plot of the film and give you my notes/commentary on what aspects of this movie were particularly crazy. There will be jokes sprinkled in as well. If you like horror movies and snarky commentary, then you’ll love this one.

Looking at this while knowing what happens in the games is just so.... weird
Especially the ending where they get into the truck with that one guy from Silent HIll Origins, Travis Grady...
I mean, it could be some random truck driver, sure. But Since SH: Origins came out in '07. And this movie came out in 2012. I 100% bet that they shoehorned him in as some kind of last minute cheeky reference.

Good eye. They actually list that role as Travis Grady in the credits. They tried to jam all these references in for the fans but it just comes off as cheap imo

You know, using Silent Hill 3 as a jumping off point as a direct sequel for the first film is a pretty smart move, just because with video games you can go ahead and keep time for the most part consistent, and if they followed a lot of the themes of the game and played with Silent Hill 3 about being a young woman in the throws of realizing how vulnerable you are in a world that is full of people who want to use you for their own selfish means is something I think would have resonated in the 2010s.
But uh... this is garbage. You say it's like someone say the first movie a year or so ago and to jump off of that, but it's like they did that and had them read the wikipedia plot summary of Silent Hill 3 and said "Make it work." Like... THAT'S Vincent? They just tried to do the end of 1 instead of the idea of them trying to evoke the idea of the cult trying to force Heather to give birth to their god? They don't even kill her mom or Harry? Heather is just innocent and not snarky in any way?
Sorry for the rant. It's just... Jesus. Good video! I never wouldve watched this willingly, but I didn't know they mangled it this bad. I'm low-key really curious about Gans' Return to Silent Hill, which will follow SH2.

hey thanks for the comment. it's so odd what things they chose to lift from SH3 and then try to smash together with the first movie. hoping that it's been so long since these films came out and bc the new one is going to be based on SH 2 that we are going to have a more or less clean slate and we're not gonna have to deal with the all the bs that they've thrown at us in these first two movies

So, the funky thing about Pyramid Head being a good guy at the end of this kinda fits what Pyramid Head is supposed to be, but obviously it doesn’t work because the whole point of Pyramid Head is that his existence is intrinsically tied to one specific character. Apologies for spoiling a 23 year old game but here goes.
So, in Silent Hill 2, Pyramid Head is the manifestation of the protagonist’s, James, guilt and need for acceptance. He is a constant pursuer throughout the game, appearing to remind James that he needs to confront his wrongdoings (his murder of his wife). Because of James’s mental state, Pyramid Head is framed as a villain, while Maria, a woman who looks suspiciously like James’s wife, is framed as being a ‘good guy’ character because of James’s lust and desire. Maria exists as a distraction, a fantasy, a manifestation of refusing acceptance. So, in actuality, Pyramid Head is ‘the good guy’ because he forces James to accept his wrongdoings and either move on or end it all. Meanwhile Maria is the ‘bad guy’ because she exists to distract James from the truth, and is a false hope that will just make James’s cycle of guilt and punishment happen all over again.

Exactly, like in Jacob's ladder, Jessie is the demon, and Michael, and Gaby the little kid are the angels. PH is a sort of twisted version of Archangel Michael, ruler of purgatory, in Jacob's ladder he said he created the ladder, which is a sort of true, and false, since he is in that realm, but he isn't the creator of this, like the judges of Hades in the greek myth, he will be like Thanatos.

I feel like there's a way to combine Silent Hill 2 and 3 in a movie, so Pyramid Head and the nurses can make sense, and Heather can fight spooky cult stuff. Like, the story could open by following James, but then slowly shift to Heather as James' past starts getting revealed.

  • @blinkspacestudio8892
    @blinkspacestudio8892 Před měsícem +9

They should have put Pyramid Head in a little pink tutu he was soooo helpful in this movie, saving the damsel AND getting some manual labour on the merrygoround. I did like the nurses but its impossible not to like the nurses. There was a dead fish in it too that freaked me a bit. I didnt like the spider mannequin thing it looked terrible but the one girl that turned into one was done well. I thought the 1st movie was actually really good and the same director is making one for SH2 soon.

Unfortunately this movie is a huge missed opportunity! All they had to do was take the plot and events from SH3 and it would’ve made an excellent horror film. It seems there was an attempt to make Heather likeable/relatable, but they somehow failed that too. Funny, because I’d argue Heather is the most likeable protagonist of the SH games already.

Half of the weird plot points are from the games, but if they had stuck to the lore in the first film they wouldn’t have had to do an unreasonable amount of exposition in this one which makes it nearly impossible to understand. As a massive fan of the games, I really like the first SH movie. This, however, is a total piece of shit. They stopped trying and just put random characters, stuff and lore from the games in. Of course it didn't work because the first movie is not like the games. And it didn't need to be and it worked, at least to me. If they chose to use heavy game lore in this, it had to make sense, but it doesn't so here we are lol.

I know Gans didn't direct this. But his groundwork for the first one was already kind of awfuI. He wanted to substitute Harry as the protagonist because according to him Harry was "feminine"; because he was "speaking to himself and fainting".
The first one had ok cinematography. But it was no masterpiece. That ending was pretty stupid with the tentacle gore. And it was also against Alessa's character; she was a good person in the Silent Hill game. Not some heIlspawn who wanted bloody vengeance.

This was almost like an interpretation of the events, clearly that Vincent was more like Alex Shepherd, even they said he was a renegade of the order, Alex was also a renegade of the order, he never shared the same feelings about this cult like Adam or Lillian. Also for real, Harry will left Heather with Alex more than with Vincent, totally nonsense, also this Vincent personality was more like Alex again. In fact this movie will be tons better with Alex Shepherd on, than this Vincent fake out Alex. They could tie together the story of Alex, and his quest for Josh, and the idea of Heather, and her quest for Harry. The Travis Grady scene is also a proof that the plot was moving forward the four games.
