Hendra setiawan is the role model of the young Indonesian national mens double player. He may not talk too much, but he really teach the Indonesian youngsters to be discipline, having a good attitude, and having a good sportmanship. As the coaches says in an interview, he always attend the training just before all the other athletes came and ask for some additional excercises to show what discipline is.
I agree with "Underrated backcourt weapon". He's naturally a front court player. But he also very strong when he play on the backcourt area. His angle of smash is one of the best in the sport. Not hard, but deadly. But sometimes he can smash as hard as a backcourt player do. He's one of the frontcourt players who has a strong smash in my opinion.

@@chandulkumarvallambhan6436 Fu wins if you compare their achievemebt. But if the context is about the perfect player in term of all around skill, Hendra wins. Fu had brute strength but he lacked the soft touch. He was a average at his best as a frontcourt. And go watch some of FHF's old matches you will find him forcing himself to take a shuttle in his right side with his forehand. Dude played like he had no backhand whatsoever
@@randomdude4045 Fu became way more well rounded later in his career, especially after cai Yun's retirement. He could defend with the best of them.
I'd also submit Tony Gunawan as a GOAT contender...world or Olympic championship with 3 different partners, including basically backpacking Howard Bach through the tournament in 2005. His and Halim Haryanto's 15-0 first game vs Ha Tae Kwon and Kim Dong Moon in either 2001 or 2002 (forget which) was one of the most dominant performances I think the world has ever seen.
He is GOAT of MD in the history 100%. His net play, backhand, unpredictable shot front to back court, flexible defence and his coolness about him will stay us forever
His consistency alone makes him the best MD player ever. Fu Haifeng at 35? Retired. Park Joobong? Retired. Hadinata? Retired. Hendra at 35 was a World Champ.

There the reason that there's even korean and indonesian players in professional badminton. @@aniketverma5191 Not crying. I admit, Hendra isn't the GOAT in terms of overall peak, that would be FHF, but when we're talking about consistency, he's probably unmatched.
One thing that brings Hendra beyond even the greatness of all other front court players. He is so reliable to play as a backcourt. That flexibility to switch prevents his partner from getting exhausted through the match. While the main tactic to go against Kevin/LYD/CY is to keep them far from the net, forcing Hendra to play as a backcourt does not really help you

I only can imagine if he play with Prime JJS/TBH/Fu Haifeng could be the most dynamite duo, but he actually did that with Alm. Kido and Ahsan (my opinion). I hope he's not retires already, it would be really sad moment in Badminton history. For me, he's definitely perfect example how to be the GOAT in Badminton
I always thought that he's also very good in the backcourt. His smash angle are so deadly which helped by his height, and rather than spamming smash he play with a lot of variety.

Cai Yun once said that Hendra's smashes are those most annoying, it's not as strong and powerful as Haifeng's, but posses very tricky and astute placement. However, I think that all men's double's players have very strong smashes when they're young, even though that attacking style wasn't their style of game

I agree with the "Underrated backcourt weapon". He's good in the frontcourt, but also strong in the backcourt. His smash angle is among the sport's best-deadly, though not always powerful like a backcourt player. Overall, I think he's a frontcourt player with a strong smash.
