One of the most glorious marches, and suprisingly very atypical Bavarian sounding. Maybe he was inspired by the Prussians they fought along with :)

The invigorating Prussian pizzazz that propelled the unification of the Reich those days seems to have spiked Mr. Fürst's loin juice when fathering Little Georg. The Force was obviously very strong with this one. Music for the ages.

The beautiful painting shown here is "Tod des Majors von Hadeln" Major Hadeln is shown carrying the flag of the Rheinischen Infanterieregiments Nr. 69 and leading his men forward. He was killed that day, 18 August 1870, at the battle of Gravelotte or St. Privat, the bloodiest battle of the Franco-Prussian War. The German army lost 19.970 men and the French army 11.680.

Der Marsch an sich ist sehr schön, aber mit wieviel Blut steht er in Verbindung? Deshalb höre ich den Marsch mit gemischten Gefühlen.

How did he die?
It "made" the Bavarians in the eyes of the Prussians, who were a bit worried about their loyalty, considering their French allegiance over the years. The night attack surprised both the French and the Prussians, and the rest is history!
