    Nice. I'd cut weight-relief holes in those bed slats and get a thicker mattress. Also, black curtains (at least facing cockpit) are stealthier.

    Love the humor 😂 I have a 2015 Promaster City and have been looking at different videos to snag some ideas. I had a footon in my van traveling the country to build stages but that is over thank to Covid-19. While I’m not sure what to do next career wise (I’m 3 years shy of 50) I am definitely sure I want to convert my van and now I have some great ideas and a laugh. Thanks and happy motoring fellow travelers!

    Absolutely love your outdoor fabric on your walls and ceiling. Looks great and so effective. I am certain it takes some talent to get in in place so neat, tidy and smooth. You've done a great job. I also love how you designed the drawer for your stove with storage below for pots and utensils. It looks convenient and secure. Looking forward to your Dodge Ram camper build out.

    Great design, but you can have a built in bed expansion system that doesn't cost space. Check out the vids of slat beds, where every other slat slides out attached to a support frame... You would just have it over the three front storage compartments.
    Planning to go PM City myself, Like the HP over the Nissan, the height over the Connect, and wouldn't touch a Mercedes Benz with a 10' pole!
    Also planning to use some of the track mounting from US Cargo to make things ultra flexible inside...

    Very nice. Just what I am thinking about doing. I looked at a 2015 Promaster City today and was concerned about the cargo space. The black fabric is a great idea. I have not seen it done before. Can you tell me what type of insulation is behind it? The van I looked at has windows on both sides (that actually open). I like that idea since I could add a ceiling fan for cross ventilation. Living in Florida I am more concerned with keeping the van cool vs. warm. I am looking forward to watching your progress on the 1500.

    @pelissey Před 6 lety +2

    I like the simplicity of your van. I am looking at getting a 2017 Ram Promaster and I don't want to over load it with heavy shelves and walls. What is the black material that you used on the inside walls and where can it be purchased? I'm also not going to go solar as I just use a very small portable computer and don't think I want to go with a fridge or any type of electric heater. The Goal Zero battery you describe will power what, for how long?

    • @CaliforniaCustomVans
      @CaliforniaCustomVans  Před 6 lety +1

      The black material you see is quilted fabric. Beneath it lies 2-3 layers of insulation. Goal Zero has a great chart with more examples than I could give on their site. The battery seen here is the Yeti 150.

    Wow- some brilliant choices. Love the fabric on the walls. Did you use moving blankets or is it more like the patterned fabric type?
    How did you attach it? I just love it. I’m hoping to get on the road for extended periods of time. Not quite FT because I’ll have to keep a small apartment for a variety of reasons. I think I’m going to wind up in a minivan(unless I win the lottery! 😏) Thanks for the inspiration! Can’t wait to go watch more. Oh, and if I win then I’m going a little bigger and hiring a pro to build. I’ll be in touch! LOL. (I rarely play.🤓)

    • @taradead
      @taradead Před 5 lety

      For just one person sleeping in a van at night, you dont need much ventilation...just cracking the front windows a couple inches will do. Any condesation buildup can be aired out throughout the day by opening doors. Hes got all the single-ply bare metal covered, so condensation droplets aren't a problem and his stove is designed for outdoor use.

      I bought a ProMaster City specifically to head to the Rockies among other destinations. The 2.4 litre is 20% larger than a Transit Connect engine, and the PMC has a 9 speed transmission, so I think it's more than capable.

    Beautiful build , but do you ever regret building it on the wrong side ? The campsite and parking side are typically on the passenger side so when you open the side door you're looking out to the campsite , ocean etc... and not out to your neighbors campsite or the street .

    • @taradead
      @taradead Před 5 lety

      True, but building bed/storage on the "wrong side" gives better weight distribution. I built mine on the "right side" only because I keep my surfboards inside - the 9 ft log only fits in the passenger side (seat folded down).
