Wayyyyy back when, we bought our windows and doors for our self built shipping container home, and have been storing them on site ever since. It's been a long time, but we are FINALLY ready to install the BIGGEST sliding glass door in our house! This step was supposed to be easy and quick... but I guess life had other plans.

Hi I am watching your video right now. I noticed when you’re drilling you’re using a lot of pressure with no lubricant that’s why your stuff is breaking.
I agree. Even a bit of lubricant would go along way and even prolong the life of the bits and taps.
Looks like you used some oil on the second big door. Probably why not as many bits broke. 👍
We use oil every time but I don't think it shows on camera. Great tip though!!
That balcony would be a good place to hang out a spot the nocturnal wildlife. I think it would've been a good idea welding harness eyelets under the overhang and you could've left them there tho hang rope lights or something.
Absolutely!! Hope to do that in the future. :)
For next time installing patio doors. Remove the slider doors to lessen the weight and install frame with stationed window only. After installing it you can then install slider back in and if needed there’s an adjustment screen on bottom sides to adjust level of slider door. I’m just shocked that you all did not have safety harnesses on in case wind 💨 came up and blown patio door outwards and you 😅couldn’t hold it and went over edge with door. I’d would have welded a ring to the bottom roof beam so you could hook up. Scary place up there. Better to be safe sorry 😵.
Definitely! We had to install the door with the doors inside so that we could mark where to drill and so that everything would fit as it should. :)
The operating door lifts out of the track when fully open. Easy to change in seconds
Urethane caulk and a dozen self tapping pan head screws should be enough attachment. Urethane is extremely strong once cured. They use it to attach car panels
My specialty is tool manufacturing. You are building a metal frame house and you need to drill a lot of holes. That's why I hiiiiiighly recommend getting a drill sharpener - it's a game changer!!!! Good luck in your hard work!!!
Yes absolutely!! Thx so much :)
You really ARE going to have THE BEST views from that house. I love that you are letting lots of sunlight in... and I'm curious - I've been seeing some modern construction techniques designed for net zero... so that you don't even need heating or cooling. (You still need conditioning and ventilation but yeah... no heating/cooling.) I just find that incredible! I was wondering if this is part of your plan... and what you plan to do in the HVAC department.
Thank you so much!!! We will probably do an electric heating system (heat pump) but we don't really need AC. :)
Great Job i love the windows/Doors.
Thank you!! :)
I had better results for myself in drilling thick metal is to use cobalt drill bits. They are made for hard metals. They even drill through stainless steal like butter. Keep up the great work. Love the content.
Those are so great!! :)Thank you
Looking awesome. You guys are smoking it👍
Thx so much!!! :)
Wow absolutely stunning. So glad you were able to get those doors in safely. Are you putting sliders on the end too? ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!! You can see what we are doing with the other side in this video: czcams.com/video/V1FMBRen-NM/video.htmlsi=qqZ9F1kIPrmi_pGt
Awesome!
Thank you!!
Hi, welcome to my house☺️ I’m obsessed with this. It’s looking amazing 👏🏻👏🏻 can’t wait to hang on the balcony with you both. Keep it up🙌🏻⚡️
Thank you SO MUCH!! Really looking forward to that moment
i have followed you from day one,and cant wait to see the finished home,i think you are both incredible at what you are doing
Thank you SO MUCH! :)
Great work guys, its looking wonderful
Thank you so much!!
looking good, scares me with you guys up there with no banister and no tethers, be safe!
Thank you!! :)
Another big step complete, and the view is great. Can't wait to see what gets accomplished this summer. As usual great work oh and by the way Jenn your windows are dirty😆
Thank you so much!!! :)
Nice to are those windows going in and you getting closer to getting dried in.
Thank you so much!!
Awesome job guys keep up the good work please.
Thx so much!!
EXCELLENT PROGRESS - CONGRATULATIONS (AGAIN ) !!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Felicitaciones chicos. Gran trabajo. 👍👍💪💪
Thank you!!! :)
un petit salut de France, finalement vivement l'hiver pour l'aménagement intérieur. Sax.
Merci beaucoup!!! :)
I have absolutely loved every single milestone of your journey. I get a little irritated at all of the sale stuff but I know your sponsors make it possible. Can't wait to see it completely finished!
Thank you so much!! I explain a little bit about that in this video: czcams.com/video/Km9frIy13z0/video.htmlsi=pZfb5b_1-JjWav2t
I love your house it's looks real good can't wait for it to finish ❤
Thank you so much!!
@@PacificPinesRanch ❤️
so satisfying each step closer to being totally dried in. those two window/doors were a huge accomplishment. congrats!
Thank you so much!!
It’s looking good ❤well done
Thank you!!
Looking awesome guys !!
Thank you!!
la pose des fenêtres vraiment différentes en France on pose le cadre puis les vitres aux USA le tout posé ensemble plus simple je pense la pose USA.
Oui, tu as raison! :)
I'm so happy u got that 3d level done windows I mean can't wait to see more ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!!
Well done looks amazing xx
Thank you!!
you should tokk the doors out of the frame installed plumb and level and them mount the doors after, is way easier than all together.
We need the doors inside to mark where to drill so everything fits as it should. :)
Awedsome job. Beautiful windows. You all make a great team.😊
Thank you so much!!!
Looks great 👍Hi from Colorado Springs 😀
Thx so much!!
looking good 😁
Thank you!!
wow -- great vid ...
Thank you!!!
Schau mal bei Stahlwerk in den Katalog. Die haben jetzt auch Akkuschrauber und Alles was das Herz begehrt, auch neue Schweißgeräte haben die jetzt im Sortiment.
My plan is to make the windows and doors frame from angle iron, then frame in with wood.
That is a great idea!! :)
Well done👍Is it the waves of the ocean we can hear in the background?
Thank you!! Probably... if not it could be the wind
super boulot par contre pour percer l'acier il faut tourner moins vite
Merci!!!
Looking good guys. Been following your journey since the beginning. Have a question about installing directly on metal... from a structural integrity, durability and ease of work perspective, what are the pros and cons of installing directly on to metal frame vs adding wood framing around the metal frame before installing the window doors? And what is you wanted to replace these window doors in the future? How permanent is the sealant against the metal frame?
Thanks guys. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!! Going back we would have designed the door frames differently and used angle iron around the reinforcements with a wood frame (or something like that). The sealant isn't permanent so should we need to fix anything we could just unscrew it and remove it.
Very scary great job
Thank you!!!
I was curious about one thing with the container home. Don't they require a special kind of padding insulation for the interior part of the container?
We will do the insulation after they are all sealed up. Each build is different though.
Love that you got the windows in! You might think about a laser Rust remover? Believe the price is still in the _$10,000 range though?
Thank you so much!!! I definitely hope to get one of those someday!!
I really want a laser Rust remover too! Like you two , can't afford one!
Nice those sliding doors🪟, what a work to drill al these holes💪. but the result is great so is the view👀. Now it feels already more like home. Looking forward when you guys start with the interior. Must be a relief when all the things from the outside of the house are finished, maybe exept from the small details. Keep on with the good🛠 work. As usual looking forward to the next 👍👍👍 greetings from the Netherlands❤
Thank you so much!!! :)
It good to dip the bit in oil
Yes definitely!! I don't think it shows in the video but we do that every time.
When is the banisters going to be done, it scares me seeing you guys walking on the balkanny.
We will do that soon! :)
Keep your drill bits, taps, and holes oiled while drilling.
Yes definitely!! :)
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Thank you so much!!
Watching this video got me thinking: where’s your chihuahua dog Peanut?
She is always around! Just chillin :)
looking great guys 🎉🎉🎉
Thx so much!!
I don't understand why yall didn't just drill the pilot holes with door in place? Am I missing something. Double installing something seems like more work. Please explain if you have a reason. Love the work❤
We had to make sure the door was level and everything lined up so we could mark where to drill and install the sealant afterwards. Once the door is placed onto the sealant it is extremely hard to adjust/move, so we made sure to mark where it needed to go before we drilled/applied the sealant.
@@PacificPinesRanch oh I understand. Thanks for explaining that.
It seems to be difficult to drill the holes, is there some special steel that makes it so?
It's just thick steel and our drill bits are a little dull. A bad combination lol
what are you guys are going to do with the west balcony doors???
Check it out here: czcams.com/video/V1FMBRen-NM/video.htmlsi=XDa38tM26bYYE1ti
Yuuuge!
YUP!!! :)
👍👍👍
Thank you!
Hello . Alors cet été C'est prêt , pour faire la JAVA 💃🕺🕺🍻🥂🥳😅👍Comment sera le revêtement de l'intérieur du bois ou du placo
Merciiii !!!
Could I ask why you used such small screws to fasten such a heavy door you would have been a lot quicker using 6 mm screws bigger drill bits and taps are stronger and quicker to use just a tip for future doors.
Yes totally! We had really limited space so we couldn't use bigger screws.
gravy
Thank you!!
S O oooo why didn't you remove the glass panels before putting the door frame in place?
We needed them in the frame to mark the spots to drill
👍❤
Thank you!!
You need a mag drill.
That's definitely on the "to-buy" list :)
What size tap are you using?
10-24 if I remember correctly
Крутяк!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟
Thank you!!!
Very sad, no « french doooors » 😢
.
.
.
Just kidding, good job 🤣👍
Lol well technically all the container doors that we made into glass doors are french doors! :)
You do metalwork. I’m assuming formally taught at a technical college as you don’t get those skills just by doing.
Two things:
1. You should use a “cutting compound” or descent lubricant whilst drilling AND tapping out the holes with threads. A cheaper option than breaking expensive drill bits, taps or fasteners.
2. You could have removed sliding doors before fitting the frame. It would have made your life so much easier to fit.. Equally as much you could’ve left the doors in place to drill & tap although I understand why you did it the way you did.
I notice on the first door you didn’t drill, tap & fasten the bottom frame. Likely on the 2nd frame too. Dunno whether that’ll be a slight issue later given the frames are just PVC..
Love yur work though.
Thx so much!! We are both self taught. We used oil every time we drilled but I don't think it shows on camera, and we had to leave the doors inside so we can mark where to drill to be sure everything fits as it should. The frame sags without the doors because it's such a long span. :)
You may have found this CZcams creator but here's a link in case you haven't. He has tutorials on working with metal. www.youtube.com/@MakeEverything
Thank you so much for sharing!!
🇳🇴👍👍👌
Thank you!!
Even the most basic safety standards are not respected on your construction site. send a bad message...
We do the best we can and are as careful as we can be. Sometimes we have to do dangerous things carefully.
I love you to death but you drive me up the wall. There are so many easier ways to do things, and it makes me wish that I was there to help. Such as the sealant that you use I would be using butyl tape. You put the door in then take it out then you put it in then you take it out. Why do you have to mark the holes take it down drill/tap the holes and then put it back in why not drill and tap right through the plastic. Of course, I'm telling you all this after the fact I'm sure you are done with it by now. To give you my credentials I am a certified welder 6G, a licensed electrician, I have a master mechanics license, and I'm a journeyman ironworker, with over 50 years of experience.
We usually do things a specific way for a reason. We had to remove the door anyways to apply the sealant, so that's why we marked where to drill/tap, then removed the door, tapped the holes, applied the sealant, and then installed the door. We could have drilled through the door but we had to remove the door anyways to apply the sealant. Butyl tape works great (we used it a few times on our RV), but we opted for Chemlink M1 because it's easier to apply around the holes (etc), and it works great for our climate. :)
Hi from Hawaii ,.....AGRRED WITH @harveybyrdsr8095 ....., Always use a squirt can of Oil when drilling because it gets .... Drill Bits hot and the it will loose its sharpness and cannot be sufficient later on again. I'm a Machinist and Welder that is why I commented on this. But you getting it done real nice and your
project is advancing just fine.
On your .......Roof Top you later on might consider to make a ..... Excess Ladder and a Little Viewing House for viewing ..... The Scenic Area around you
and if you can see ..... The Ocean or Lake then it will be nice to observe also.
