    Wayyyyy back when, we bought our windows and doors for our self built shipping container home, and have been storing them on site ever since. It's been a long time, but we are FINALLY ready to install the BIGGEST sliding glass door in our house! This step was supposed to be easy and quick... but I guess life had other plans.

    Hi I am watching your video right now. I noticed when you’re drilling you’re using a lot of pressure with no lubricant that’s why your stuff is breaking.

    • @shanestrains4724
      @shanestrains4724 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I agree. Even a bit of lubricant would go along way and even prolong the life of the bits and taps.
      Looks like you used some oil on the second big door. Probably why not as many bits broke. 👍

    • @PacificPinesRanch
      @PacificPinesRanch  Před 4 měsíci

      We use oil every time but I don't think it shows on camera. Great tip though!!

    For next time installing patio doors. Remove the slider doors to lessen the weight and install frame with stationed window only. After installing it you can then install slider back in and if needed there’s an adjustment screen on bottom sides to adjust level of slider door. I’m just shocked that you all did not have safety harnesses on in case wind 💨 came up and blown patio door outwards and you 😅couldn’t hold it and went over edge with door. I’d would have welded a ring to the bottom roof beam so you could hook up. Scary place up there. Better to be safe sorry 😵.

    • @PacificPinesRanch
      @PacificPinesRanch  Před 4 měsíci

      Definitely! We had to install the door with the doors inside so that we could mark where to drill and so that everything would fit as it should. :)

      Urethane caulk and a dozen self tapping pan head screws should be enough attachment. Urethane is extremely strong once cured. They use it to attach car panels

    That balcony would be a good place to hang out a spot the nocturnal wildlife. I think it would've been a good idea welding harness eyelets under the overhang and you could've left them there tho hang rope lights or something.

    My specialty is tool manufacturing. You are building a metal frame house and you need to drill a lot of holes. That's why I hiiiiiighly recommend getting a drill sharpener - it's a game changer!!!! Good luck in your hard work!!!

    You really ARE going to have THE BEST views from that house. I love that you are letting lots of sunlight in... and I'm curious - I've been seeing some modern construction techniques designed for net zero... so that you don't even need heating or cooling. (You still need conditioning and ventilation but yeah... no heating/cooling.) I just find that incredible! I was wondering if this is part of your plan... and what you plan to do in the HVAC department.

    Looking good guys. Been following your journey since the beginning. Have a question about installing directly on metal... from a structural integrity, durability and ease of work perspective, what are the pros and cons of installing directly on to metal frame vs adding wood framing around the metal frame before installing the window doors? And what is you wanted to replace these window doors in the future? How permanent is the sealant against the metal frame?
    Thanks guys. Keep up the great work!

    • @PacificPinesRanch
      @PacificPinesRanch  Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you!! Going back we would have designed the door frames differently and used angle iron around the reinforcements with a wood frame (or something like that). The sealant isn't permanent so should we need to fix anything we could just unscrew it and remove it.

    • @PacificPinesRanch

      We had to make sure the door was level and everything lined up so we could mark where to drill and install the sealant afterwards. Once the door is placed onto the sealant it is extremely hard to adjust/move, so we made sure to mark where it needed to go before we drilled/applied the sealant.

    You do metalwork. I’m assuming formally taught at a technical college as you don’t get those skills just by doing.
    Two things:
    1. You should use a “cutting compound” or descent lubricant whilst drilling AND tapping out the holes with threads. A cheaper option than breaking expensive drill bits, taps or fasteners.
    2. You could have removed sliding doors before fitting the frame. It would have made your life so much easier to fit.. Equally as much you could’ve left the doors in place to drill & tap although I understand why you did it the way you did.
    I notice on the first door you didn’t drill, tap & fasten the bottom frame. Likely on the 2nd frame too. Dunno whether that’ll be a slight issue later given the frames are just PVC..
    Love yur work though.

    • @PacificPinesRanch
      @PacificPinesRanch  Před 4 měsíci

      Thx so much!! We are both self taught. We used oil every time we drilled but I don't think it shows on camera, and we had to leave the doors inside so we can mark where to drill to be sure everything fits as it should. The frame sags without the doors because it's such a long span. :)

    Hi from Hawaii ,.....AGRRED WITH @harveybyrdsr8095 ....., Always use a squirt can of Oil when drilling because it gets .... Drill Bits hot and the it will loose its sharpness and cannot be sufficient later on again. I'm a Machinist and Welder that is why I commented on this. But you getting it done real nice and your
    project is advancing just fine.
    On your .......Roof Top you later on might consider to make a ..... Excess Ladder and a Little Viewing House for viewing ..... The Scenic Area around you
    and if you can see ..... The Ocean or Lake then it will be nice to observe also.
