After the NES, my Mom had bought a 4-5 years old Commodore 64/128 from an ad in the papers at the time. With a box full of disks and booklets. She knew nothing of the treasure she had gotten us, she just knew I liked these things!

I grew up on the C64. CJ Elephant Antics, absolutely amazing.
Just remembered one of my gaming WOW moments was on Creatures. You could hear the waterfall before it was on the screen, next gen stuff!

I strongly recommend the C64 game Law of the West. You play a sherrif in a wild west town and have to keep the peace. You can talk your way through most confrontations but can unholster and fire your gun however you see fit. It's a fun little sandbox of morals and wits. Easy to learn and very immersive.

The C64 was an amazing cRPG system, and not only Ultima - Bard's Tale I-III (and an actual construction kit to make your own version!), Phantasie I-III, Legacy of the Ancients; early gems like Telengard or Temple of Apshai. Almost all of the 80s classics were ported to C64. But, best of all, were the SSI Gold Box games like Pools of Radiance. SSI was kinda like the Avalon Hill of computer games at the time, making bizarrely complicated games with these highly limited computers.
I also remember games like Defender of the Crown, which blew me away with its graphics at the time. Seven Cities of Gold was a game I remember spending a lot of time in. The platformer of Conan was fun, if frustrating. There were weird simulation games like President Elect. The fact that folks are STILL making C64 games today is a testimonial to its widespread fanbase.

Edit: Reading other comments made me even more nostalgic for games I nearly forgotten from the whole Summer/Winter Games EA stuff to Usagi Yojimbo... I used to sail the high seas with me eyepatch back in the day, so I had a lot of games... a lot of long lost floppies... I used to run a BBS when I was 11-13ish.
Way of the exploding fist and race destruction set are both great C64 games

I remember having fun with _Fort Apocalypse_ back in the day. I haven't played it in decades, so I don't know how well it holds up now. It was also available on Atari Computer systems, but I played the C64 version.
Great vid, man! I was also born in 82! The year of E.T. and Tron! Great year! I started out with the 2600, then NES, Gameboy, SNES, Gamegear and that was the end of my console days till I got a computer in 94, then installed my first 3d card, the CANADIAN Matrox Mystique 2mb in 96, never looked back. Except for a few years ago where Xbox One S had a sale and I just had to jump back in lol, for Forza 3 mainly lol.
Was never interested in the Commodore 64 but I am now!
Just got my 8bitdo keyboard today! Swapping switches for brown ones though. Badlands! Man I loved that game on the C64. In fact the C64 started it all for me, so much so it's the star of my sci-fi time travelling books!

My first computer and I have so many fond memories of playing games, even on my black & white portable tv. You mentioned some great ones and I used to also play a few sports games with my friends like Hyper Sports (which had great SID chariots of fire intro music), Summer Games II, Winter Games and Daley Thomson's Decathlon. I also had the joystick in the photo of the real c64 in your video. Can't remember what it was called but it was brilliant.
Loved playing on my mates C64 as a kid, 2 of my favourite games were spy hunter and mission impossible.

I still own my 64, also a 128. I have a few 5 1/4" drives and the illusive 3.5" drive as well...! Haven't dragged either of them out of the hall closet in a few years....that'll change today 😊 Thanks for the reminder, these were the best of their generation with their SID chips, 16 colors (!!), and it's compact nature---they blew it all away back in the day! I actually miss typing in some of my games (yes, you actually programmed, what a concept!!). Great video, I might nab that keyboard, I like the design. I retro play all of the great games that this platform gave us (Ultima FTW!!), and they are decently set up. Absolutely great video Mr. Dweeb, it's so awesome to remember where we came from ❤

You probably already know about some of the amazing homebrew games that have come out for the C64 in the last few years, but just in case you don't, here are a few highlights: Sam's Journey (platformer), Steel Ranger (run 'n gun), Briley Witch Chronicles (RPG), Caren and the Tangled Tentacles (graphic adventure), Planet X2.1 (RTS!), Lady-Pac (arcade), Wormhole (platforming / run 'n gun). Cheers.
If there was a Rock n Roll Hall of fame for Computer/Console music the Commodore64 would definitely be in there 🤘🏼
Used to love the C64, a friend had one, and I had the ZX spectrum so we would play different games at each others houses.
Of all the 8BitDo retro styled keyboards, this is the one that really does it for me. I would love to see it have the petscii labels on the bottom side of the key caps like the original, but I understand that would be difficult/expensive to do.

TechDweeb, you gotta play Jumpman. If you haven't. The nostalgia is big in this one. Love the channel.. I just forced my kids and their cousin to watch this video while I yelled out in nostalgia joy at some of these classics.

My families favorite was called jumpman. Also to note it was the only video game my mom ever played. In fact it was the only game she ever played. She didn't play card or board games but to this day she raves about the amazing game jumpman from the comadore 64. If memory serves me correctly there was Ana amazing game called firestorm or fire... something... basically blew my little mind when I saw it, one of the first concepts of homing rockets where you controlled the rocket... honestly from memory that was better than playing the game itself. Either way I thank you for the retro dopamine you have provided me this day. 😅
Jumpman was a great game! I didn’t play that one specifically until a couple decades later on emulation but “Jumpman Jr “ was one of my favorites in my c64 library back in the 80s played it to death.
I have an aunt like that! Literally the only game she every played on my cousin's Nintendo was Burger Time, and she played it ALL THE TIME!
Jumpman and Jumpman Junior are the two best games on any 8-bit machine ever made

I wish those super buttons were rotator knobs that you could map to your video editing and/or art software.
Legacy of the Ancients is one of my favorite RPG's on it that's a bit short and Beyond the Forbidden Forest was a good popular game.
The computer Lab at my Elementary School had a 1 hour class every week where they crammed us into a room with around 30 computers ranging from Apples, Atari, Commodores, TRS-80 and a few CP/M and DOS computers and forced us to play video games.15 minutes to do what ever you wanted then having to put everything away and switch to a different computer.
Winter games was one of my first c64 game i played back in the days..

Barbarian was on of my favorites back in the day. Slicing heads off never felt so good before or since. Ultima 2 and 3 was one of the first RPGs that I finished multiple times. Great pulls TD. Any game from the Jumpman series is a great play on C64. There are like 3 or 4 of them.
Just picked up this keyboard this week. Was my first computer. Had a ton of fun waiting on disks to load, die quickly, and then wait for everything to load again. I played a lot of Wizards of Wor, Jumpman, Arachnophobia, Sammy Lightfoot and lots of 2600 ports.

I like the clickiness and the color scheme.
If you want some INSANELY retro feeling switches for that board, that sound and feel amazing, grab some "gateron mini i" switches for it. They're tactile switches with a deeeeep thock and the way they did the tactile bump right at the top makes them feel crazy retro. I just made a keyboard for my friend and used them... now i need a set for myself.

Friday the 13th and Project Firestart are synonymous with the c64 for me, along with California games, Summer Games, and Winter Games. Oh, and Championship Wrestling. My gosh, the memories.
I had two C64s. One I got for Christmas and one I won from an TV Invisionaries contest.
1982, my freshman year of high school. My first computer was an Atari 800 followed by a Commodore 64.
Fist 2 is magical, also Zak Mckracken and the alien mindbenders.
I got given a Commodore 64 for helping some friends move house and although it wasn't working, I was able to get it fixed. No disk drive but it did come with the cassette player, a Quickshot joystick and some games on cassette. Uridium, Ye Ar Kung Fu, Impossible Mission, Paradroid and Suicide Express were on the cassettes. It stopped working again after about 6 months so when I took it back to get repaired, the techie was selling Amiga 500s so I traded it in for one and bought the OG Civilization and X-Com Enemy Unknown. Good times.
I bought a Nintendo themed keyboard and preordered the numpad as well!

StuntCar Racer was genuinely ahead of it's time. Someone recently created a SuperCPU version of it that upped the framerate to make it even more enjoyable!

I have to admit I slept on it. My first system was the Sega master system before I got a NES. So admittedly I never played any C64 games. I'll definitely try some games now just to get a feel for the system.

Great Giana Sisters on Amiga 500. Core memory right there. Next to Emerald Mine and Galaga.
My dad was a big computer geek/enthusiast. He had a Tandy 1000 but gave it to me after he got a Commodore 64. He got it mostly for being a family computer to do family things (banking, mail, etc.) but the Commodore 64 wasn't good for that. Well, he said that, I couldn't tell you. So the Tandy 1000 with its dual 5 1/2 floppies was my first PC. My dad got rid of the C64, never got back into PCs until much later when Pentium 4's and Windows XP were the thing.
I played a lot of Jungle Hunt, Pac-Man, Ms Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, Q-Bert, DigDug, BlueMax, Wheel of Fortune, Star League Baseball, Donald Duck's Playground, Garfield, Defender, Centipede, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Garfield Deluxe, Pole Position when I was kid. Load "*", 8, 1. And sometimes it seemed like forever to load the game off the 5 1/4 floppy disk.

My first PC experience was an IBM PC clone that my step-dad owned. None of the games on the system were as graphical as the Commodore, but I loved playing many of the text-based adventures I found on the system. I can't remember the name of the game, but I laughed my butt off when I learned I could kill the King's ghost by throwing the candle stick at him. To this day I keep a candle stick by my side in case I ever find a real-live ghost to test this theory.
Had a c64 growing up, favourite game... Giana sisters! To the point I have an Android version on my phone since... Forever! Really not fun to play with on screen controls, but it must stay there, I don't even know why... And my c64 copy on cassette I had obtained it through... Duplication of my friend's original using one of those double deck cassette players that were meant to copy audio tapes, did a lot of this back then....... Seems like 2 centuries old tech now, and still love the memories I have of it
If only the keyboard had the keycaps of the C64C, but still kept the same colors of the C64... the C64C had less sharp corners, which made typing much more comfortable.
I think my favorite C64 game is Sam's Journey. It's out for NES/Famicom as well Digital or Physical. I will be ordering Piopow for NES this month before it's to late and they are all gone from Limited Run.

Don't forget SAM which was probably the very first software only voice synthesizer on the C64.

I can really recommend Sam's Journey. It's a modern C64 game on disk or cartridge - it's still for sale I think. I also bought it for my Famicom toploader. The music, graphics and gameplay are awesome!

I really, really like the C64's SID chip. Great music on that thing, all curated nicely in the High Voltage SID Collection. I particularly like songs by Goto80. About the keyboard though, the keycaps are available in several colors. They're called "AF SA" profile keycaps, and this particular brand is recognizable by the font and the way the period is misaligned on the "> ." key. They're a clone of the MG Monster / MG Ember premium sets, but IMO they're better than the original, while also being a fraction of the price.
the last V8 and THe Dungeons and Dragons games are the best, I played htem when they came out adn I miss them.

How could you do a C64 overview and not mention its crown gem, the Boulder Dash series? 😭 (Yes, I was there, chucking my joystick over the desk whenever the "squares" and "butterflies" exploded me. 😂🕹).

I got a expensive corsair. Pretty good. Has a usb port. They should of loaded it up with usb's. since it's close. Got the mouse connected to the keyboard.
