  • I'm sure someone said flax seed is good for horses, and they would be correct. Here are a few reasons:
    1. immune function
    2. joints and ligaments integrity
    3. allergies to seasonal pollens and sweet itch
    4. heart and blood vessel health
    5. respiratory well-being
    6. digestive function and gastrointestinal health
    7. hair and hoof strength
    8. energy needs for athletes
    9. nervousness and behavior
    10. tying up prevention
    11. insulin resistance reduction
Flaxseeds are low in sugar and starch (2.6%), making them safe for horses with insulin resistance, PPID (Cushing's), and PSSM. They are high in fiber (47%) with a large amount of pectin and mucilage. These water-soluble fibers create a soothing gel inside the digestive tract. They are also low in potassium, making them appropriate to feed to horses with HYPP. (gettyequinenutrition.biz/Libra...)

Can i just feed them in a raw form(grinned or soaked) by putting it in front of them? or mix it with something like in their hay or with grass etc..??
    Thanks

You can feed the seeds whole, but they dont digest all the way as the hard outer shell is difficult to digest. I recommend buying "Cold Milled" Ground or if your going to grind it yourself use it right when you grind it as the seeds generate Arsenic if left out. I mix it in with their feed (soaked or dry) as if you sprinkle it on hay it will drop right through. . Good question!
