  • In this video, I go over the common issue of low pressure in the transmission. This is an E shift valvebody so it has the extra solenoids to release park. I also show how the park release cable should be in case it has to be adjusted. Thanks for watching

    It's always nice when you already have a suspicion of what the problem may be before going into a repair and able to confirm quickly. A good straight forward job is also quite nice.

      Gary do you think that with these zf hp26 transmissions that if the only problem I have is that sometimes once stopped it won’t go into park is just the cable fault rather than the solenoid or bridge fault. I’ve obviously start by looking at the cable. I’ve no other faults with the transmission at all but the reluctance to go into park is more often when the car is warm so I’m thinking that when the fluid is hot it’s by passing that bridge so that’s more likely to be my problem. What you think? Thanks

    Hey Gary! I see you responded to comments a month ago, so hopefully you'll see this! I just did some maintenance to our 2008 528i after getting some transmission errors, I can't remember the initial codes but it one mentioned pressure and one mentioned a solenoid. I replaced the transmission solenoids, the mechatronic sleeves, the bridge adapter, the pan/filter, and put new transmission fluid in it. It did great driving around town for a day or two, but I gave it a highway test drive and while I was coming of the exit ramp, I got a new transmission malfunction message. Had to get it towed home. I'm currently getting 4F81, 4F82, 4F85, as well as 507B, and 507D codes, Just like yours, with the same symptoms of when you shift it, it snaps right back to park. Is it possible that the bridge adapter that I just put in cracked? Any other potential culprits? The car drives absolutely great with 180k on it, I'm hoping I just goofed something up during reassembly. Thanks!

    Mr Ferraro i have problem im hoping u can help my with, 07 750 6hp26 e shift, did fluid filter(pan) sleeve, seal kit, solenoid kit and sonnax vb kit and plate gasket, service (all zf parts) about 25-30k ago been fine until now. 4f81, 507c, so i changed it all again, with new solenoids (all zf parts) and reset gearbox adaption, at first car would clank and direction lights to left of RND would flash but no code set, seemed to do better if i let car warm up awhile but now it got worse and has set 4e89, this is whats on my scanner under tcm, egs, (clutch adapt deactivated - active), (converter lockup clutch open - active), (elec limp-home op, 2nd gear - active), deact relay(transistor)- not active, elec limp 1st and 3rd gear- not active. This is filling pressures after 4e89 set, clutch A (-170)mbar, clutch B (-34)mbar, clutch C (-74)mbar, clutch D (-30)mbar, clutch E (160)mbar, rapid fill time clutch A (0)ms. Before 4e89 set these were same except clutch C,D were (0)mbar.
    What does these mbar measurements mean? Do u have any answers with what info i have here?

    I have a wierd one for you, I did the transmission fluid and filter replacement on a car that had broken transmission lines due to serpentine belt failure causing belt to cut the lines in half. I replaced the transmission cooler lines and at the same time I replaced the seals just as preventive maintenance. I did the fill procedure, did it on many 6hp19s in the past as well but this is my first Electronic shift car one. I got the car to drive and reverse fine, but as soon as i stop, it puts itself back into park. It also doesnt throw any codes which i find weird. Hi Gary - Your videos are very inspiring! After reading through most of the comments I see where some are using alternative fluid to ZF. I have looked at Mercon SP and Ravenol 6HP, much cheaper and seem to meet the same spec. Do you have an opinion about strictly using ZF or can you recommend an alternative brand? If you don't mind, one more question - I have 142k on my zf6 on a 2008 RR, it performs well enough ( other than 1-2 and 2-3 shifts have slight delay - no codes), so I was going to preemptively replace the solenoids, bridge seal, and tubes and update TCM software - just not sure if that is wise. I'm thinking of the old saying if it runs don't fix it. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Michael

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  Před 5 lety

      You can use a premium synthetic fluid, that will work just fine because this trans can adapt. Do you have access to a scan tool? Before anything gets done, i would check the fluid level, and reset the shift adapts. In order for the adaption to work, there cannot be any codes present in the trans or engine and check engine light must be off. Do the adaption at normal operating temp.

I should mention I am not on a level surface( no garage), the car dips about 2 inches from rear to front. Since this is a 2008 RR I use the air shocks to lift the car to off-road for better access and I assume the car levels itself. Not sure how sensitive level surface really is. Hi Gary, great video. I appreciate any help. I've a BMW 335i 2007 with ZF6HP21 transmission, getting codes:
    4F84 - Ratio monitoring clutch D.
    4F91 - Ratio monitoring clutch A-D.
    Adaptation values, clutch-related: Rapid filling time, clutch D - 0.00 ms, Filling pressure, clutch D - 0.00 mbar.
    Performance variables, gearbox: Level to L1/L2/L4 pin - high, Level to L3 pin - low.
    I put it in D or R and doest'n works, the code 4F84 come back right after clearing it and the goes into limp mode. it's possible has problem with the bridge seal? What could it be?

    Gary, I have a 2008 Range Rover HSE. I am getting a P0657-00 error code that comes back right away after clearing it and then goes into limp home mode. Transmission was leaking fluid. I replaced the bridge seal and the four tube seals and the connector sleeve. Topped off the fluid and I'm still getting the code. The Range Rover SDD tool had me check the wiring from the transmission harness to the shift interlock solenoid and that was good. Solenoid is good, but it is not getting energized by the TCM. I can shift without pressing the brake. The Diags said that if the wiring and solenoid are good that the TCM is bad. Does this sound right? If so I am looking at getting a rebuilt valve body with TCM

      Thanks for replying, it was actually an off hand remark, I tried scanning it myself and got no codes, it does go into park when the transmission is cold but not when it heats up, I figured that was something in the valve body, I bought the car knowing it needed a rebuild, as there is a clunk into 2-3 and 3-4 gears so I thought that was low cluch packs, it also gos in and out of lock up when its cold so needs a torque converter, but there is no indication anything is broken, just worn out at 145,000 miles, I only paid 3k for the car, this has that 4.4 leter 400 hp engine so even with a $5k rebuild I think I got a good deal, if I still lived in Jersey I'd drop it off at your place.. but I escaped in 2012..
