I loved your wishing you were talking about love the threads for the beautiful colors and all the things can do cross stitch with those colors happy stitching Chase Chase and be careful out there
Jan, I'm enjoying your basics of cross stitch. Even though I've been stitching for awhile, I am learning new things from your videos.
Enjoying your tutorials. Nice to get detailed info on the different threads. Used some types but great future information. So I won’t look like a total dummy when I shop for new threads. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us some of your wisdom. We are blessed to have you. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much, Jeanette! Glad you are finding these useful! 🤗
Awesome information that can be so confusing to anyone...looking forward to more excellent videos from you❤️
Thanks Jan for the lesson in fibers! Wow what a change from the 80’s - 90’s , the only threads back then was DMC! Getting back into cross stitch a relaxing and fun craft has become a little stressful, with all the fabrics and threads, so many floss tubers do there own thing changing fabrics and floss colors in a pattern, I have never done that! But I’m going to learn ,because it’s crazy this pattern needs a few stitches in gentle art , then next few stitches in the same pattern needs a few stitches in weeks dye ! It’s expensive and a little frustrating to buy all these different threads, so I need to learn that if I don’t have it, just substitute a color that close to what the pattern is calling for., but then part of me feels guilty for not following the design crazy right 😂 one thing for sure I’m going to get some of that whisper for Santa’s beard 😂😂 your lessons are very helpful, not just for New stitchers, but old ones getting back into the craft! Look forward to my next lesson 😊
Great video Jan! very instructive regardless of the variety of floss. thank you so much! Give love Get love. Miriam
I have stitched for quite awhile but I am still learning from these videos... Thanks so much Jan!!!!
Very helpful, thank you! I look forward to more information on silks and blending filaments :)
Thanks Jan...very well explained....🥰😘🇦🇺
Thank you for this Series, Jan! I have returned to cross stitching after a 20 year break. I am going to be starting a Long Dog Sampler in January. I am comfortable with linen fabric. Flosses have changed so much that I look forward to your videos on using variegated and over dyed options. Thank you again!!!
Awesome video regardless of experience level! I will say that the new metallic DMC Diamant thread is lovely to work with. Much easier than most other metallics as far as fraying. Hope you'll dive deeper into blending filaments when you cover metallics later as well. Thanks for another great video!
I have been wondering about the Diamant threads and am happy to see you have worked with them. The red and green are so vibrant and rich looking. Thank you for sharing your experience Jo!
Jan - great summary. Thanks! Etoile is French for star. So floss with a bit of twinkle. It is softer than regular floss, will fray, but looks great. Much easier than either metallics or light effect (DMC).
I love using DMC etoile thread ❤️ it’s very easy to work with. It gives a hint of twinkle ✨
Jan thank you so much for this video, I am old school and have always used DMC. Have started to use some of the "fancy Threads" and I love them. Great information!
Thanks Jan - so many options. Silks someday...
I have used the etoile threads while stitching this year's Christmas cards.Very easy to work with- much easier than the usual metallics! They give a much more discreet result so it all depends on the final result one wants to have.Thank you for this series!
I am learning a lot from your videos. Thank you. I have stitched in the eighties some but quit and restarted in the Fall of 2018.
😊thank you ❤
Thank you for this very informative video, I wasn’t sure on how to use the other brands except DMC. Thank you it helps so much.
FYI, étoile is French for “Star”. Sometimes their French origins shine through.
Although I’m one hundred percent convinced that DMC’s French name is definitely a backronym from “double mercerized cotton” DMC.
Great info again - As for the Sulky 12wt blendables (variegated) cotton, I have that in the 300m (330) yd spools, with 127 color choices. The 12wt solid have 130 colors. I use them for my shuttle tatting when making doilies. I also use them for paper embroidery. Sulky site > www.sulky.com/products/thread/cotton/ I never thought about using them for cross stitching. So, I am glad I watched this. Thanks for another great tip.
Excellent video. Very informative! I like the little bags that your threads are in. Did they come with the floss or is they something you bought to put them in?
Enjoy watching your floss tubes! I was wondering if you wash Gentle Art threads before you Stitch with it.
Thank you! No, I don’t wash any of the overdyed flosses. Most of them are now saying they are colorfast, but since I usually only use those for smallish projects, I’m not touching it a whole lot, so I don’t worry about it.
Not sure if anyone asked yet, but can you mix and match cotton and silk threads in the same pattern?
You can. There’s no rule that says you can’t. There is a different appearance to them, a different shine, so the light catches them differently and you can usually see the difference. This is why most people don’t mix them.
can you use sulky on 18 ct aida 1 over 1 ?
I think the sulky would be too much for 18 ct. I have heard it should be used on 32/16 ct and larger. I have heard someone say they used it on 18/36 ct, and thought it worked, but I am someone who likes a lighter stitch rather than a heavier one. I would suggest that you get a spool or Sulky and try it on the 18 ct and see what you think. Hope this helps!
