    I always find it interesting to see beginner cross stitch videos by flosstubers, just to see what's done differently! My first kit was the full size "Snow White Disney Dreams Thomas Kincade" kit. Er… yeah. It did take a year, but I managed it!

    I applaud you for these how to cross stitch videos!! Thank you - I have been cross stitching for a couple of months now. I have watched a lot of floss tube and have learned a lot, but...most of the floss tube videos are geared toward seasoned stitchers and many of the things discussed are beyond my cross stitch knowledge, so this will be great, I am currently working on a small Dimensions project that I picked up at Walmart.

    Great beginning video. I watched because my granddaughter is interested and thought it would be a good review for presenting the info. I'm a teacher by nature (not by training--not much anyway) although when I was in Boy Scouts with my son, I was called assistant scoutmaster. I won't choose a kit since it wouldn't be for me and my pupil might be picky. Both are so cute!

    Ok so I have never really cross stitched before...well I did try many years ago but that didn’t really go well. So I’ve wanted to maybe try again and did choose a kit - a Riolis owl. This may not have been the right choice because of the thread type and I have at least started it and got 4 little lines in with the stitches all going the right way - but I was so nervous I haven’t touched it again!! Hahaha! I will make another attempt here soon - I would love the home sweet home.

    I'm reaching, Jan! I've had the misfortune of picking a pattern with half stitches. I've never been able to get that right. I stitch a lot on 14 count aida. There are a number of "boxes" or stitches on the pattern that show a symbol either in the top left, top right corner, bottom left or bottom right. Do I treat this as if it were a tent stitch OR poke the center of the box, finishing with the other half of the stitch? Did that make any sense?? I know this isn't a "basic" question but I was going to ask anyway. So, you're back from "the mainland". I hope you found your in-laws in good health and that you had playtime with the RV. Thanks for ALL your help, Jan. You KNOW I appreciate it.

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, those sound like quarter stitches, so you would pierce the center of the square and make the (what is basically a small) tent stitch in the direction indicated on the pattern.
      The in-laws are doing great, we got the RV up and running and didn’t want to put it back away! But yeah, back home now and pretty much over jet lag! I’ll be back tomorrow with my normal Flosstube and lots of pretties to show!

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  Před 4 lety +2

      I would start with 14 or 11 ct aida, depending on the age of the child. I haven’t ever taught a child, but I have heard that around 8 is a good age to start. They have more manual dexterity at that point.
