I saw them at the Durban City Hall live. What a concert! Thousands of thousands girls screaming and fainting. Chasing their car. Every kind of fanatical hysteria you see with the beatles and others. What a completely unique phenomenon in South Africa. Never happened again. They were brilliant though and most all went on to mega fame and stardom in other massive bands overseas.
So many of our South African musicians KILLED in the 60's and 70's - they reached the International charts. Rabbit one of them. Listen to the quality of the band players!! Just....awesome!
Saw this group at the 7 Arts in Salisbury Rhodesia in (was it) '76. One of the few truly professional groups that toured our neck of the woods back then.

Mine and my first loves song makes me sad to think of my family and friends who passed away. RABBIT was very popular obviously they South African and so am I.
Embarrassing that they tried to continue without him and released a Roller pop-sounding album called Rock Rabbitt- but hey the show must go on and of course, this show quickly came to an end - Duncan joined the aftermath of The Bay City Rollers which fizzled out to nothing - Ronnie started making music for kids - Neil joined the family furniture business and Trevor went on to join Yes and is the only South African to ever be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame - but .......they were South Africa's greatest rock band ever!
I met Duncan about 23 years ago while he was living in South Africa (Pretoria -East) in his mother's old house, with his wife. She is/was an American and had no idea aside from what she was told, of what a big deal Rabbitt was . Duncan wasn't in a good place at the time. Financially struggling. He told me that too much drugs basically ruined his career. He also told me that Rabin's brother was a lawyer and he took firm control of Trevor's finances from the get go and that amongst others saved Trevor's bacon. Duncan is now a feature in Vegas where he continues to make music. I met him twice after Pretoria and he was very friendly and down to earth.
The first 'Rollers' album with Duncan was actually quite good. Stoned Houses, Ride My Elevator, Turn on the Radio, Instant Relay, etc. Good rock/pop, didn't fly in the US, though.
@@chriscampbell9191 I like Duncan's voice and he has a great sense of music. His addition has changed the Rollers sound✨🔔♬ All the albums with his addition have been my most cherished treasures since I was in high school at the time☘️, …and now I am about to turn 60🌾✨
Embarrassing? Deff not embarrassing, it was a brilliant album Getting through to you, out did anthing that Rabitt had done before. Who knows why they didn't last, the musical genius was still there in the 3 of them, certainly the looks were still there.
Interesting to finally see Rabbitt in some sort of action. I'm guessing all of these vid clips are from the SABC? Looks like they used Roland and Acoustic brand amps? Awesome vid, thanks for posting this.
What I don't understand is why Trevor bailed on the band shortly after the group signed a recoring contract with a major U.S. Label? Surely it wasn't due to lack of creative control, as he wrote pretty much all the material on their first two albums. However, rather than go to America as originally planned with the rest of his mates he quits the band and goes to England instead to try and start a solo career that ends up going nowhere. Fortunately, for him, he showed enough flash and talent to be selected to try out for two new bands - Asia and the remnants of Yes comprising of Chris Squire, Alan White and Tony Kaye. He picked right collaborating with the guys from Yes as it led to so much more for him. Crazy thing is Rabbit would of had huge success in America. They had the looks, hooks and vocal chops to take the U.S. by storm, but it wasn't to be. It would have been interesting to see how his and Duncan's careers would have fared had Rabbit stayed the course and see what heights they would have climbed. Unfortunately, for us fans, we'll never know.
I think they broke up because the US tour was cancelled, because of the political situation in SA, their international plans and market were compromised, 1976, I think they would have had protests as we had in sport also, pitty would have loved to see where they would have ended up, their sound was unique
Rabbitt was ahead of their time - This was due to the musical genius of Trevor Rabin
I think Duncan Faure as well ;)
Met them all my uncle was managing their tour at the time in port Elizabeth great guys xx
Rabbitt was so popular with us teenage girls in 1975! Trevor and Duncan were the favourites. Beautiful song. Proudly South African! 🤗📀🎶🇿🇦
Heard the song on radio. Beautiful. I'm 64 now. 👍

Rabbitt rocked! The best band know one knows about!
I agree - could have been a great pop-rock band touring the world - but was not to be
Trevor Rabin went on to be the 1st and only SA i know to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. His a legend.
OMW did this song bring back memories of my high school years. Rabbitt rocked. They were ahead of their time.
My fave song when I was 5. I was born in 1970, still love it so. Hi from a saffa in NZ
No word that can describe Trevor Rabin. One of the best in the world
Sooo agreed
Duncan Faure went on to sing and write for “The Rollers,” formerly Bay City…”. He helped them change their sound and musical direction.
Trevor Rabin left Rabbitt in the 70's. He then joined American band Yes, in 1983, and would remain member for more than ten years.
*ENGLISH band
@@AwakeningComics : I stand corrected. Thanks.
With two American current members (and one American "understudy" (if you will)), it is certainly in danger of morphing into an American band.
Yes, and Duncan Faure went to the Bay City Rollers
My first ever live concert in Joburg during the 1970’s
I was there too! Trevor Rabin pure genius

Why were they killed? That is so bizarre.
South Africa's Queen . Extremely talented and had the potential of the lifespan of Queen.
Saw these guys at the Alpha Theater in Welkom. I'm now 61 in 2024
One of my all time favourites . Heard it on 1485 today..memories
entered the South Africa singles top 20 in June 1976.
I was 4 months old. I love this song.
Memory Lane.
They were sensational 🎉
Loved Rabbit, so sad when they disbanded 😻🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Never heard of this band or song, interesting song thanks for sharing👍
Ditto, remind me a bit of Chicago.

Im grateful ❤
I love this song, I have this whole record on vinyl. The band shares my last name and was a favorite band of my grandfathers in his 20’s
*CHARLIE* Lyrics
Loving you is easy
Such a beautiful thing to do
Though at times you hurt me
I buzz each night on you
Oh, what times we've had together
What crazy things we've done
Enough to fill my memory
And keep me loving
Charlie
Charlie
Charlie
Charlie
As dogs go you're groovy
Not as predictable as some
But you're not as paranoid as Lady Marmalade
You're really much more fun
Hell, at times I get so mad
When you buzz on someone new
It's not that you don't love me
It's just that I'm too selfish to consider sharing
Charlie
Charlie
Charlie
Ooh Charlie
You've filled my head with new ideas and filled my heart with sun
So I'd like to take this time right now to thank you for what you've done
You and Lady Marmalade are everything I need
The two of you and the music deep inside of me
And watching you sleep
Side by side
Makes me breathe
Gratefully
I love you Charlie
Charlie
Charlie
Ooh Charlie
Charlie
Charlie
Charlie
Charlie, oh
Charlie

South Africa in the 70's was an "interesting" time and place to be alive in. Barberton 197/6.
They were the best!!!
Way ahead and some went on to achieve greatness
Duncan Faure , was also lead singer for Bay City Rollers , replacing Leslie McKeown .
So fui conhecer oT.Rabin em 83 assistindo ao video-clip do Yes.🎸
And just like that I'm 9 years old again.
Rabbitt tour confirmed for mid June, tickets go on sale beginning February 2023.
Trevor Rabin was world class
Love it!
Wild!!
Funny stuff. I remember this band when I lived in Cape Town many years ago

The beatles from south Africa. Love them xx
Makes me so sad 😞
I wonder what he'd have said if someone would have told him in 75 he'd be a member of Yes...
Alternatively, I wonder what Duncan thought the first time he heard 'Owner.'

The Rollers Elevator album from '79 is perfect power-pop--thanks to Duncan.
How about their song HARDRIDE ??
December 2023......😊
Reunion tour in June 2023
I had a drink at their home years back in Meyerspark with Lawyer Pieter de Jager. Lol
My word, I lived in Meyerspark back in 1995, and saw him at the garage in Watermeyer street, thought no way it can not be him, ......

@@naasdyksterhuis6496 Funny, but some of Trevor's new material seems to pay tribute to his more pop laden days with Rabbit. It's quite good, actually.
who is the photograher . nice
charlie of course
We had a groupie in our class - Michelle de Greef - she was mad for Ronnie. Weird
What's with the outfits 🤣 - Trevor just put a new single out it's awesome 🤘
Charlie..... the time i realized Charlie is also a girls name....😂...favorite those years....
SA was nie reg vir die band nie .... hulle was 20 jaar te vroeg
Duncan Faure was just as influential as Trevor.
Trevor was digging boy bands look at the look on his face. He’s dying.Old Ronnie Robot was huge. Huge. Gay crowds had to love the stuff.
Oh those boas were a huge mistake.
Beautiful noise
Is Charlie not a man?
Yes, he was the writer Patrick van Blerks partner.
Charlie was his dog
Charlie was a girl, Lady Marmalade is a cat.
(*although I always picture lady marmalade as a dog*)
