This video could not have been timed better. I am celebrating Christmas all alone this year and I wanted some real good motivation to deck my halls. Thank you so much!❤️✨🎄
one of the best times of the year to be introspective :) hope you have a Merry Christmas 🤶
@@almostheavenhomestead1680 ohno!!
Lonely Christmas here too! I find so much cheer in these festive videos.. I hope you have a blessed Christmas 🎄💫💙❄
Have a super wonderful Christmas!
I’ll be spending Christmas with my memories. When we lived in a rental house during the 1950’s, I got what I thought was an extravagant Christmas present... a Nancy Ann doll with three dresses and a suitcase. (The dresses and suitcase were for the doll). When my father bought a house during the 1960’s, my presents were practical... such as pajamas.
This is the first I’ve heard of bubble lights. Interesting.
Our family did a candle-tree one year. We only lit it once for about 5 minutes, but it was the most beautiful tree we ever did. We only did homemade ornaments, and strung popcorn and cranberries.
nice... I never tried the candles but we do make all our ornaments and do the popcorn and cranberry garland. It just feels more christmassy.
Old-fashioned homemade decorations are my favorite!
My pups would try to eat all the popcorn!!! Lol!!!
The anxiety I would feel while lighting that 😅 I bet it was beauty
@@workinprogress3329 Our parents were very set on just lighting it the one time, taking a picture and then blowing them all out. It was a lot of work for 5 minutes, but it really was worth it, lol. Even unlit it was our most beautiful tree in all the years.
I can only imagine how many people in here are brought back to their childhood or just simpler times watching your videos. Makes me emotional for them...
....meanwhile, I grew up in the 90's 😂
Same with me I'm getting very emotional ...
Same 😂 I miss doing this with my parents
We stopped after I graduated high school 😢
What a perfect way to start Monday morning! Your home looks lovely all decorated for Christmas. Thank you for another wonderful video, Sage. Lots of love from Maine, USA.
I agree
I live in NYC so my only experience with a warm Christmas was one year when I was in Florida for a wedding and I flew back home on December 23rd. Seemed strange seeing palm trees decorated with Christmas baubles and to be out and about in shirt sleeves instead of a coat and scarf. PS… definitely put the lights on first. And my friend always puts lights on the inside branches of her tree, too, so they light up the inner tree, too. It looks great. I like loose tinsel, too. My parents would save theirs from year to year during WWII and in fact, I still do, too, since there’s really no reason to toss it out every year. Your decorations and tree turned out great!! I love vintage decorations.
I'm a fanatic for Christmas brooches. Yours is beautiful.
Hi how are you doing?
aliexpress has loads of them, amazon as well but a little dearer.
@@Alexandra_Hill I tracked it down at the time. An affordable replica. :)
When I was a child like 2 to 5 years old, I remember both my grandmas using bubble lights and big round lights on their trees. This brought back some fond memories of Christmas past.
How does she not have over a million subscribers yet?!? I mean her content is so unique, feel good and quality and her and her husband are just adorable! ❤️
Awwww thanks so much! ☺️❤️
Beautiful!! This takes me back…. I was born in 1965 but my Parents decorated the tree with many of the elements you chose. Thank you 🙏🏼
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there ???
Your tree is beautiful. Merry Christmas to you Sage and to James... and to the chickens!🎄
This is my second video that I have watched. I was born in the late 1960's, but love everything about the 1900's and up. While watching your videos, I forget that Im in the year 2022. You take me back to that time era. Looking forward to seeing more videos. I live in Georgia USA. I remember my Granny having a silver tree. Our our tree, I remember the bubble lights. I love antique items.
Sage, you really know how to take me back in time. Have a lovely Christmas season. Warm wishes from America 🎄
My husband and I have real authentic bubble lights. They were his grandfathers and when he passed they were given to us. We do not use the much anymore but they all still work!!!
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there👋👋👋
So beautiful, so many memories. I was born in 1955. Thank You for sharing.🎀❤️🎀
Until our house burned in 1962, our tree had big fluffy white Garland with lights! Sure wish I could find some today. I still love and have many vintage ornaments and still love all of my vintage hand blown glass ornaments
How are you doing hope you're safe over there👋👋👋👋
Summer Christmas sounds like loads of fun. As a northern hemisphere dweller, it’s a magical winter experience (except where I live it’s a gamble whether it’s cold or hot lol). I love the carols that set a cozy, warmed-by-a-fire, winter wonderland mood. 🥰 It’s my absolute favorite time of year too. My husband and I have our little (artificial) trees decorated and lit, and our caravan all decorated. 🎄
Merry Christmas, Sage! PS I love that door wreath. ♥️
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there😁😁😶
The more I watch the more I realize. You are my spirit animal ! Bubble lights are a very old tradition in our family.
Whenever you post video, I must leave behind everything, and watch it 🌷! You are my favourite! Greetings from Serbia! 🇷🇸
Hlo...
I am from India
Aww, you are so sweet! Thank you ❤️
I just love bubble lights! My grandparents used to have them on their tree.
As a fellow Australian, I really want to experience a white Christmas! I haven’t even seen snow before, so I feel like it would be nice. Ps. We have the same angel on top of our trees 🥰
Oh my gosh yayy we have the same angel!!! 👼💕 Yes, I really badly want to experience a white Christmas too!!
@@SageLilleyman You're not alone! I'm Irish living in Ireland and we never get a white Christmas, we usually either get a cold wet rainy Christmas, a frosty cold bright Christmas or somethings a warm spring type Christmas, I've lived through I think one snowy Christmas day, that was a long time ago though, along with the snow we got frozen water pipes lol
Yes, a white Christmas is special. I grew up in Australia and moved to Canada when I was an adult. My Mum experienced her first white Christmas at age 75
Would love to have a white Christmas, will be very hot here in Central Qld, those bubble lights were great.
I’m 14 and I do too, I’ll definitely do it when I’m older. Although while it being summer in September it is quite nice when you think about it
My mother had bubble lights from when I was a little girl. I'm 65, and I have them now.
Your home looks lovely, Sage. I love that you show your genuine reactions to things, such as the lights not working.
I live in Canada and so use to a cold Christmas. It's true how you associate Christmas with what you are use to. It wasn't until I married my husband, who is from Mexico and travelled there over Christmas that I experienced the joys of Christmas is warm climate/time of year. Going to the beach for Christmas is amazing! And find myself missing that tradition the years we stay in Canada.
As always, thanks for another wonderful video.
I'm alone as well...... I may be alone but never lonely. Treasure my friends, neighbors, and pets. Holidays aren't always like in the movies and on the TV. Have my home decorated inside and out. If it's just me here to enjoy..... it's worth it!!!!
there is nothing better than that feeling of sitting down with a drink after you've decorated the tree! this is so lovely
You and James have done a beautiful job decorating.I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas which your family. From Joyce in Ohio USA.
I'm from Ohio too!!😀
I was in the play “it’s a wonderful life” as a lead character and I actually grew resentment towards that movie because we ran through the script so many times that I’m just tired of it
My family in the 50’ always put the bubble lights around just the bottom of tree! It was beautiful and easy as a kid to lie on the floor and watched them bubble!
Man transport me there 😢 so beautiful. Nobody in my house has any Christmas spirit. Beautiful and Cozy. Reminds me of the decorations my mom use to put up.
Try Vermont country store. They have hard to find items.
Can I say that it always blows my mind how over there is not freezingly cold? Anyway beautiful video❤️
So great as always Sage. Very nostalgic 🥰 I made your cottage pie from the dining through the decades video and it was so good!! So full I couldn’t move 😂
I always put lights on first before ornaments, because the ornaments go in empty spaces around the tree.
Then remove the ornaments first when taking the tree down, then the lights are taken down almost last.
It's harder to put lights on last around the ornaments, The lights go inside up against the
tree branches. That's how I decorate the Christmas 🎄.
Love Christmas year around with different themes but never have done one with the past years. I do take seriously Christmas in July that's when I decided what craft ,cooking recipes and decord will be ready for display but I turn my 25 Christmas trees on to celebrate Christmas in July.
I’m an 80’s kid and have always had bubble lights and C9 bulbs on my tree. They’re my absolute favorite 🤩
Having lived in Northwest Indiana for my whole life, I have a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit without snow ❄️🌨️. It might take me a bit to get used to that if I moved to Australia 🌏. It's a Wonderful Life I absolutely have to watch around Christmas 😊 and it never fails to get me at the end. Merry Christmas 2023! 🧑🎄⛄🎄🎿
My grandmother just passed away a few 2 weeks ago! I love to see your vintage take on your life ! Alot of things you do remind me of way back when That was a different time almost non exsistent time !! No one cares for vintage anymore They think old and ugly ! Buts its beautiful the stories the memories they tell :) :) :)
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there💓👋👋
Your garland above the doorway just begs for some mistletoe😍
I love your Christmas tree, I really adore the old decorations. My grandparents passed away this year and to honor them I am going to decorate my tree with their decorations. Christmas was always a special celebration for them. Greeting from Germany 🎄
You are young with an ol' soul...and so am.I....I love anything from the 1940's and 1950's....brilliant nostalgic videos you record...love it
I am only 12 years old but I love everything vintage! Its so nostalgic to me, especially Christmas time. Your channel is such an inspiration and I just love that it reminds me anyone can embrace this beautiful lifestyle! Your videos are so lovely and entertaining and I love them so much 😍 Thanks for just being you! ❤️
Okay Same here I'm also 12 WE NEED TO BE FRIENDSSSS

Old soul? 😂
I'm 56 yrs old and i remember those light as a child glad you found them
I've never heard of bubble lights but they look like something out of The Grinch, which makes sense since that was made in the 60s! Our family watches it every Christmas Eve. We have cats so we have never had string tinsel (if pets eat it it can tangle in their intestines and be fatal!), but for a REALLY old timey tree we have Victorian style metal tinsel! It is little twisted strips of tin with hooks on the end, they come in a tin with a cork and can be bought from Lee Valley here in Canada. They make punched tin stars as well. They last forever and are always the last thing we add to our tree! The tinsel adds a lovely sparkle next to the lights and it's the perfect finishing touch ❤️🎄
I am still grinning ear to ear. My heart leaped when you talked about & then found the bubble lights. My family of origin started using them in the early 1950s. They were the highlight of the tree decorations 4 me. Sadly, all are gone now, but I do use bubble light for a night-lite. Thank you, Sage for including the history of the trees & decorations. So fun.🤗 Yours look lovely. Merry Christmas to you & James!🎄🎄🎄
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I’m not a Christian but I love Christmas season❤ it’s amazing how people celebrated Christmas those days😍
I have bubble lights on my tree too. It reminds me of my grandfathers house when I was a kid.
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there👋👋👋
My Grandma had the real bubble lights from the 50s. It was my favorite part of her Christmas tree.
A few years back, we (living in New England USA) had a warm Christmas. It felt so wrong. Cold weather and some snow (when we are lucky) are so associated with Christmas, it just doesn’t seem right without them.
Sage, this video was so lovely! You and your Christmas decorations are gorgeous! You mentioned that the first artificial trees were produced in the 1930s… but I actually have a small family heirloom tree that is from 1908! 113 years old this year! It’s my most treasured possession. 🎄😊 Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I love the tree! We just recently watched The Shop Around The Corner, what a lovely movie for the holidays. We always watch It's A Wonderful life for Christmas too.
I love Shop Around the Corner!! One of my favorite Christmas movies. The musical version She Loves Me is darling too
I'm French and I always watch this movie at Christmas.
When I first started watching this I didn’t get the hype behind the bubble lights. But then once I saw them lit up with that tree it all came to me. They look so amazing! Thank you for this inspiring video.
Bubble Lights!! I didn't know what they were until you lifted the box. We had those when I was little; I am born in '91. There are surely remainites of them around the house... I'm remembering broken bits of night-light bubble lights, too! 🕯🎄✨✨
I’m an 80’s baby, and at my dad’s we had bubble lights and used icicles until I want to say I was somewhere between 8 and 10. I remember them, but we were honestly kind of on the poor side. (Icicles are what we call that lose tinsel you were talking about only finding in gold.) some stores here still carry it. Usually you can find it here in the US in a Dollar store. I think I’ve seen it in the odd pharmacy as well. I bet Amazon has it. But if you’re really hankering for the silver ones I may just have to find some and send it your way ☺️ I love this, thank you! Christmas is my second favorite holiday. Between Easter and Independence Day. Your décor is just lovely tho. Thank you for this! 😄
So nice. My childhood. 😄🎄
You are adorable and this video is adorable! Wishing you guys a beautiful holiday season! 💚❤🎄❤💚
Oh the silver tree! ❤ my grandma always had a silver tree with blue lights. She had a closed in porch full of windows and it always light the whole room!!
I live in Brisbane but my late Grandma lived in Melbourne and every Christmas we would visit and she would buy me a massive gingerbread house from the shop - I have such fond memories of Christmas with Grandma in Melbourne!
Thank you so much for this video. We recently had a bereavement in our family so Christmas is not feeling very Christmassy right now. Watching this video felt like being curled up under a blanket and looked after by a friend, so thank you. ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss Laura. Xx Sending so much love and hugs your way ✨🎄💞
I also have tinsel and vintage decorations in my tree. And also have the wooden little thing, with child on rocking horse and i live in the Netherlands. 😉😄 So much fun to see the same things on the other side of the world. 🌍😄
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there ?
Christmas is so magical 🤍 the only thing bad about Christmas time is the crazy snow we get here in Pennsylvania!
Really enjoyed your vintage Christmas watched from the smoky mountains Gatlinburg Tennessee area we love vintage in these parts
You are my favourite CZcamsr ♥💯
Absolutely love your vids darling! Love from Roydon England xxx
I know we're pretty close to the day by now this year but my grandma used bubble lights religiously. She kept the bulbs off the cord for storage. So she'd put the cord on the tree first and then screw in the bulbs later with the ornaments. This also reduces the risk of breaking any of them while putting them on.
This is way better than The Kardashians over the top Christmas decor..so.homey and simple.
I don't know how to spell this word, but you really got the Aviance down to the real thing. Right down to the look of scarf, dress, red lipstick, tinsel and bubble lights. Perfect! TFS!
Just as soon as I saw those bubble lights were from here I knew that fuse was going to blow. I'm glad you found an inverter.
Now this is a true cozy christmas.🎅🏿
I can't imagine Christmas in summer. I love winter so much
It's A Wonderful Life is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies as well!!! If you haven't seen The Bishop's Wife it's another lovely 1940s Christmas movie and also one of my favorites from 1947. I love your vintage Christmas tree and I absolutely love the Bubble Lights!!!
I love watching your videos. I hope you and your husband and family have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to decorate at all not to mention putting a tree up but I have too, for the children. Im 64 1/2 and I live in a 2 bedroom cabin with my son who has not yet found his path through this life. My daughter and her fiancé also moved in in July because the place they were staying in was condemned so now there is myself, my son, my daughter, her fiancé, their 4 children off and on living here until they find a place. They've been having trouble finding one big enough and that they can afford. Blankets clothes everywhere. Whew! What a problem. Anyway Merry Christmas!
I live in the USA in tropical Florida, so we also get to enjoy a warm weather Christmas. My husband is happy to go out to light up the house since he no longer has to do that task in the freezing cold. Until we retired we lived much further north in Penna. but we've been in Fl. for 12 winters now. Your tree is lovely, I like to do a vintage tree. I have some blown glass ornaments that were brought to America many generations ago from Germany by my ancestors. Merry Christmas to you & James - and , of course, the chickens.
If you were told put lights on last they were Wrong! Lights are the foundation, they go on first. Plug in first light, then starting at bottom from trunk out branch to tip and back toward middle, going around tree. Plug on new string as you go around and up. Its important to go into the trunk and back out to give the lights a sense of depth. After lights are on start with ornaments - biggest first, stand back, look, and hang to fill vacant spaces. Smallest ornaments are last where needed. Then put on tinsel if you use it - yes piece by piece from the tips of the needles to hang as a shimmering curtain. When you take down the tree reverse process - tinsel off first, then ornaments, lights off last. If you have pets put plastic ornaments that cannot be broken on the lower branches. Your bubble lights look adorable, a true vintage looking tree!
I absolutely love the historical context you add. Very well done.
Hello from Florida, U.S.A., nowhere near Christmas time! Lol This just filled me with so much joy! I really appreciate your vintage aesthetic. I needed this pick me up in these dreary times! Thank you!
New subbie here from Northeast Ohio. Old, too, 😆 LOL! I remember those huge old bubble lights. They were quite magical on trees in the late 40s and 50s. Later in life, I bought the smaller reproductions as well. Many things in my house are thrifted...OK, most things! I describe myself as a Grandma had it kind of girl. Your tree is great, lovely ornaments, and you've made lovely decorations for your home! I love the orange garland that you made for your tree, too! That's not something I would have thought of doing. We used to string popcorn and cranberries as garland. The last several years my dog's groomer allowed me to put up a tree for a local dog rescue and it was primarily decorated with dog, Cat, bird and horse ornaments, but also angels and a couple Nativity ornaments, ended with the pandemic. My personal tree is a tiny tabletop tree with thrifted vintage ornaments. Have a Merry Christmas!
And yes, I am primarily on my own for holidays. It helps to have friends with whom you can celebrate.
This will be my first Christmas alone. This brings back memories. Thank you. Merry Christmas.
I remember those lights when I was a child.
My Mom loved bubble lights
the tree reminds me of the the tree in pictures and home videos of my nan and grandad during christmas from the 50's and 60's. your tree is stunning
I know A LOT about vintage things.. but have never heard about bubble lights! Those are gorgeous! I loved all the details in this video. ☺️ Thank you!
I love them bubble lights I remember my parents would have them when I was growing up. I was so amused by the way they bubbled.

@@illectroBarbie Where are you from if I may ask ?
My name is Teresa and I live in Saint Joseph, Missouri. I am 69 years old, we had a Noma Lights factory in our town when I was young. My mother worked there for a time. Thanks for sharing.
I had that brooch when I was a kid. It was green. Have a very merry Christmas!
Beautiful!! Love your tree!
we've always put lights on at the end too
Your home is exactly what I imagine when I think of Christmas
I love my Bubble Lights! I sit by the tree and wait impatiently for them to heat up and start to bubble.
I think I'll try to create such a Christmas for my mom and dad next year... even find some vintage toys or a train for under the tree... it'll be bomb.
Beautiful and cozy!!! So lovely!
The old bubble lights are adorable- my grandparents have a few strings of them and we loved them as kids!! They would take a long time to warm up and start bubbling :) you had to wait for it which is part of the charm... I will say you are probably better buying repros! They get very hot and being so old now and having been used many times, they could cause a fire or who knows, melt? You get the same effect with the repros!! Merry Christmas!!
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there ?
it's the same in florida - really hot out and green and tropical lol. my neighbors put christmas lights around their palm trees. But decorating inside definitely makes it feel cozy, despite not having snow or cold weather.
I love your oranges. I bought an air fryer with dehydration button and dried around 4 oranges. I strung them up and put it on my Christmas tree. Simply beautiful.
Sage, you gave me the idea from your past video. The tree looked beautiful. I don’t have room in my house for a tree, so it’s outside the front porch. Therefore we can’t really enjoy the citrusy scent.
I wish I lived where it was warm for Christmas, because I hate the cold. Those bubble lights are so cool. I’ve never heard of them before this video. Merry Christmas to you and James!!!
How are you doing hope you're safe over there😊😊😊
I simply LOVE you Sage! You're such a sweetheart! I imagine a old vintage Christmas party at your place with Eggnog and the smell of baked goods filling your home! How is it you can be so far a way yet we can feel such a strong connection to you! I think it's because you represent a time and era of love and affection to our fellow man/woman in this case...hehehe. Bless you and your sweetie over the holidays Sage, may your 2023 be full of love and blessings! ❤🙏😋
Aw you are to kind Mishka! Thank you for your lovely words and Merry Christmas!!! 🎄🎁 💕
What a beautiful and soothing video. Your decorations look wonderful on your tree. And those bubble lights are a perfect addition. I need to look for them. I have many old pieces from my mother, but I'm always looking for more. I wish we had a thrift store nearby with such wonderful items. You're giving me some wonderful ideas though. Your living room with only the candles and tree lights for illumination looked so cozy. Wishing you and James a very Merry Christmas 🤶🏻 🎄 🎅🏻
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over there ??
Those bubble lights are so charming! I’m so happy you two worked out the electrical issues.
Thank you for sharing. My paternal grandparents would decorate their tree like this so it brings back some fond Christmas memories for me.
EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL
Such a well done and creative video! I really admire you for living in the decade that brings you the most joy. The era where my heart loves and longs for is early Victorian. I think I’m going to go back in time and create my own lovely and authentic Victorian home!
I loved your video. I really thought I was looking at a 1940s era. Your hair and dress looked so nostalgic. Your accent reminded me of Olivia Newton John. The tree skirt was beautiful. I love the vintage look. Very nice. 🎄
