I want to show off something new, a tool I developed for forming paper cartridges. Along with this I designed my own paper template that I have laser cut out just for this tool. I put a lot of thought into how this would work. From the design and feeding to roll the papers, and to the paper itself to ensure quick ignition. No hang fires of any kind, this has been the best thing I've made for cap and ball revolvers and has made making cartridges so much easier. I am currently working on a 31 Cal kit, but I am waiting for a revolver to test it out properly. As for the rifles I do plan and I'm currently working on the first prototype.

Nice! I have one of the Guns of the West kits, and I understand the pressure you are talking about. I am going to purchase one soon.

Thank you! I am happy this former is making a huge impact. I want to make cap n ball shooting easier and more convenient for the generations to come.

That's a great innovation for black powder shooters. Have you considered offering options for powder charge weight within each bullet diameter? For instance, in .44, offering 25 or 30 grain capacity? I know my Pietta Remington repro likes 30 grains best with round ball (haven't had the time yet to open up the frame to take conicals, nor do I have a mold for conical bullets yet). When I start shooting more (retirement coming up) I expect to make a lot of paper cartridges and will probably dip lubricate, as was done in the 1860s -- but it would be nice to have tube capacity for, say, 30 grains plus a felt wad for round ball, 25 grains plus a wad for conicals, etc. (I can always top up with corn meal or wheat farina if I feel the need to reduce the charge).

You know we can definitely work to offer some varieties for everyone. When I first designed this, I didn't expect how successful it would become. Your input and suggestions help provide the motivation and drive to provide more. Thank you!

👍🏼Dang. Good job with that. Especially for people w/o nimble fingers. Genius; if it doesn’t already exist. :) good job again.

Thank you! As far as I know I don't think it exists, but there are so many forgotten ideas I can't say for sure. I got more ideas in the works.

The most common Civil War conicals we use are .460 in diameter & used between 25 & 30 grains, so we need forms for this. I believe you have great opportunities for your C&B line of products. I anticipate achieving the best results with this thickness of paper after 1st giving it a good nitrate bath. It would help clear the chambers after each shot for sure, making it ready for another cartridge a bit easier. Have you experimented with nitrate paper?

Thank you I greatly appreciate the comment. I am always working to improve my designs and the paper has been surprising on how well it works for me. I have also been experimenting with nitrating at the moment, still working on proper ratios. But i have gotten great results, got some to burn quick.

Instead of using the "daisy shaped" end pieces that you had laser cut, could you just use cigarette paper rounds for the ends. The slightly thicker ends would still give the cartridge more rigidity, but not having to get laser cut ends and just using round paper sure would make it easier.

Will this former work with the Johnston & Dow .44 cal conical bullet with 25-30 Grains of powder? How about the cartidge box.....will it work with All conical bullets or just round balls? For such a good product, I hope you make universal for all bullets styles, etc.

The former does work with conicals, and there is two different sizes of papers that work with this former. The standard size which i use in this video and a much larger size to hold up to 30 grains with the JD Bullet. The current box does work with conicals and balls but is limited to the amount of powder it can hold. I do have a larger 3d printed box for the JD bullets with 30 grains, i just don't have it up just yet. I want to double check all measurements before i start sending them out. Also as a little update, i did upgrade the paper to a much thinner version which is different than the video and i created an acrylic tracing template for the paper for folks who want to cut their own. I will definitely work on a more universal box. Thank you!

These look great! Do you have one that can hold 25g? Thats what i shoot with a kerr bullet from eras gone bullet molds.

I do have paper that holds 25-30 grains, which still works with the original former design. Let me know if you want some and I can have some made up for you. I have received a lot of suggestions with the paper, so I am working currently to get the cartridge paper cut a certain way to get an even better burn while un-nitrated. There is some slight hiccups, trying to form my paper when nitrated, but all other paper still works great while forming when nitrated such as tracing, onion skin, cigarette, coffee filter.

I am I will attach a link below, one thing I do want to note is the paper in the video is no longer what I offer with the kit. I switched to a much thinner 17IB paper which has a cut base to still allow easier ignition. www.ebay.com/itm/115966209842
