  • Today I'm unboxing a rod from Okuma called the Psycho Stick. The name is fitting because this rod is truly driving me insane and has me itching to get out on the water. I'll take you through all the features of this rod, discuss the reel and line I'll pair it up with, and finally recommend the types of lures/rigs that I would throw on a rod with these specifics.
    Thanks for watching!!!
    COMMENT BELOW and let me know what gear review I should do NEXT!

    Debo, I'd like to see you do a series on your favorite technique specific rod and reel casting combos. Combos that have seen time on the water. For example, your favorite casting combos for finesse (weightless), jerkbait, crankbait, frog, Flipping/Pitching, etc. Talk about the line and lures you've used with success.

  • @gizmocarr3093
    @gizmocarr3093 Před 3 lety +1

    Yea, yippy yahoo; you got a good rod for open water spring fishing; I think you will like. It will open the door to using lighter lures and smaller weightless soft plastics. Sharp hooks set themselves once the line goes tight. So jerking like King Kong is not required. Fact is; jerking like King Kong makes light fast action rods go pop like the weasel. Locked drags are death sentences for light fast action rods. When using a locking reel seat tighten the reel firmly not overly tight. Then while holding the first one tighten the second one to the first one. This applies pressure to the threads of the reel seat and both nuts lock together and stop both from coming loose. The reel I would use is one with a shallow spool made for small diameter line. Shallow wide spools hold less line and have fewer issues with overruns. Using less line makes the spool weight less and the braking system work better. They also retrieve line more consistently than narrow deep spools can. The reels I use are older or use aftermarket spools, bearings among other things. There are plenty of reels that likely fit the need or come close in all price ranges.

    Not in this price range yet, but still so much value to this video. I love the CZcamsrs who fill so much detail into their videos that it's like watching 4 videos in 1, and you're a master of that skill. Every video is new information, reminders of old info, and new applications of all of the above. As with most nights with 2 or 3 new videos to watch, yours is usually the first I view, with good reason. Thanks, man!

    Dang she’s a beaut! You should check out doomsday rods. I absolutely LOVE mine. I have a 6’10” medium power moderate fast action and wow. Love throwing poppers ploppers jerkbaits and shallow or lipless cranks on this thing! Even my bigger 1/4-1/2oz rooster tails. I have it paired with a Lew’s tournament MP reel. What a beautiful combo. Although the reel came with a slightly bent handle 🙃 Kind of expected more for the 150 bucks. Wish I would have went with the fuego like I intended to but I wanted to try a Lew’s baitcaster. I’ll probably get a carbon handle for it down the road. The slight bend doesn’t effect it at all.

    I finally hit the $100 mark on a rod last year with the SLX MH 7'5". The sensitivity is noticeable. I would love to be able to jump up and try a much more expensive rod, but I think it will have to wait for a bit. I have a few too many hobbies at the moment and they all nickle and dime me to death (or $50 and $100) Jeeps, cameras, fishing (ice and open), video games... damn... all the things I love are expensive. Damn that is a nice looking rod! Ha! I got shouted at!🤣 It really is amazing how big a difference there is in the feel of more expensive gear. My brother was dumbfounded that I bought an almost $200 reel. The best way to explain it is a Ford Focus vs. a Cadillac Escalade. I have more Focus's than Escalade's but it's gradually shifting in the other direction. Great video man!
