  • This is part 1 of a 2 part study of the rampant typology we see in Hebrews chapter 11. It's pretty amazing stuff and it really blesses and excites me to study it and share it with you!
We will look at typology in Creation, in Abel, in Enoch, in the flood and the Ark, in Abraham, in Sarah and more!

27:20 Adams side was also opend or pierced to take a rib in order to form his "bride"... see the connection? It's so beautiful, when you find these links. Also the thorns as a symbol of the curse on the ground. Then the thornbush in the story of Moses and later on the crown of thornes... he took the curse upon himself.

This is a very exciting topic.
Three things stand out to me from this teaching. 1) People 'in' the ark are saved from the wrath of God ( the flood) in the same way that those 'in Christ' are also saved from God's wrath. 2) I Iove how you expanded on 'God wiping away ever tear'. It's even more comforting to know that He'll wipe away the 'cause' of every tear and sorrow, and 3) the comparison of Isaac's 'almost sacrifice' on Mount Moriah pointing toward the future time when God would bring THE sacrifice to fruition through the Person of Christ.
The Word of God is truly SO rich and I appreciate how you pull all the threads together. 😊

    Something my Pastor taught us...
    Word | Worship | Walk | Work | Where
The Christian life is a walk with God. If you crawl, you'll get behind. If you run, you'll get ahead. All you need to do is walk. The Christian life is about faith. We're told to walk by faith and not by sight. What better place to get a blue print for walking by faith, than the "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11. Many have partaken in this study, but I found it most edifying, and would love to share. Let's start by reading a portion of the text...
"By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (WORD)
By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. (WORSHIP)
By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (WALK)
By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. (WORK)
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. (WHERE)"
    Hebrews 11:3-10
It starts with the WORD. You must have a Word from God. Many try to begin their walk with the Lord without His Word.
Next comes WORSHIP. Worship is giving yourself to fully God, praising Him for who He is.
Following worship you have WALK. Once you start walking with the Lord, He'll train you and prepare you.
After you've been prepared, God will give you something to do. He'll have Kingdom WORK prepared in advance. It's like on the job training.
WHERE you work is up to the Lord. It may be China, it may be your community. He will lead you.
    Remember the 5 W's
    Word
    Worship
    Walk
    Work
    Where

I’d just like to point out we probably shouldn’t say “ Isaac accepted his fathers will, he never fought back, he went through it willingly, just like Jesus”, when it’s clear from the text Abraham didn’t tell him what’s about to happen.. Isac asks where the lamb for sacrifice is, he doesn’t know it’s supposed to be him.. he might have accepted his fate after he was told, but that’s speculation.

I never noticed how much typology is in Hebrews 11!
BUT I'm disappointed at your use of the words _seal_ and _sealed._
The biblical meaning of seal is a mark of ownership. The NT passages using seal are not referring to holy super-glue.
Re. Jesus' side still being open, people can go into or out of the ark. The NT is full of passages warning about backsliding, falling away, falling from grace, losing salvation, faith becoming shipwrecked, etc.

Also, how the Ark was the only thing that could save you. Just as Jesus is the only way. I see more to the flood story in that, Enoch represents the church being raptured out before the great tribulation (flood). Noah represents the Jews going through the tribulation period. The door of the ark represents the Holy Spirit, as when the ark door was closed, they were sealed (salvation secure). Methuselah represents God's long suffering and patience. [He's mentioning some of this stuff as I'm typing]

    • @julianaallen8477
      @julianaallen8477 Před rokem

I see the flood as God rescuing Noah and his family before He pours out His Wrath on the Earth. Like He will at the end of the tribulation. I've always heard that Enoch represents everyone who is raptured before God pours out His Wrath and Noah represents everyone who died throughout time. We need to be prepared to go through the tribulation. 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2, Paul says to the Thessalonians to not be deceived and that the gathering together to Him will not happen until the man of sin is revealed and sits in the temple as proclaiming himself to be God.. which happens at the 1/2 way point.

Hey Pastor Mike, I have a couple questions:
Why was Cain's sacrifice considered inferior to Able's? When I read the text, its clearly different yet it doesn't seem disingenuous? And why, after Cain killed Able, was he allowed to continue throughout the earth, starting cities and had a mark on him that he was basically untouchable? Seems like a gift, not a curse?
What is your opinion of the Book of Enoch? (I've never read it myself but I hear a LOT about it)
    Thanks for your ministry!

    • @belovedflorence4109
      @belovedflorence4109 Před rokem

Cain's sacrifice was a type of salvation by works, and Abel's sacrifice was a type of salvation by faith in the sacrifice of Jesus. Cain was allowed to live, and God even protected him because this is the true nature of God. If we see Jesus, we know God, Jesus said I have not come to condemn the world, but the world through me might be saved. Do you remember the woman caught in adultery? Jesus said, neither do I condemn you. Do you remember the story of the disciples wanting to command fire like Elijah? Jesus rebuked them and said you know not what manner of spirit you are of. In that case, on the Mount of Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appeared and disappeared, God said this is my Son, hear ye him. Moses and the prophets, being prophets (men), have misrepresented God in some aspects, now comes the Son, who knows the Father fully, hear ye him Hebrews 1:1-3. Blessings to you. I have read the book of Enoch, and I believe that the reason it is not canonized is first, the book is incomplete, there are lots of missing texts, and one can not really follow the concept; secondly, the copy in circulation is not yet confirmed that is or was the original or not. There are some truths there, but you won't get more out of it that will help you to understand the scriptures better

This typology thing sometimes can go beyond what it should be. The ark is a symbol of Jesus of course, it was a mode of communication for Noah to his generation, just like now, we are preaching Jesus in this time of grace. As was with Noah, when 120 years of preaching were over, when the ark was in preparation, the door to salvation was closed, and judgement came. So it is now; the time is coming when salvation will not be possible anymore when the time of grace is over (when he that is holding back--Noah-the church--is taken away).

My understanding, too, the visible things were used to confer spiritual meanings because of the state of their hearts (dead men). The only thing they could understand was through the natural senses, thus the sacrifices, the ark, the temple, the bronze serpent etc. Romans 1:20, For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.

The Hebrew letter Yod is the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet and is the only letter that floats in the air as opposed to touching the line/ground. If you look at all the other Hebrew letters you will find a part of it that looks like a little smudge. That's a Yod. The Yod makes up every letter. The letters make up words. Every "thing" is a word. Thus every thing is made with a Yod. The Yod signifies the right hand. The Hebrew word for hand is Yad. If you look at your right hand and separate the thumb from the fingers you get a Y shape. Y/I/J all come from the letter Yod. The Yod also shows possession/ownership of something. This is where we get the apostrophe ' from. And two apostrophes make quotation marks " which are basically used to highlight the "words" someone has spoken. It's also where we get the speech 💬 and thought 💭 bubbles.
Who is The Word who sits at the Right Hand of the Father who has Ownership over the whole Creation that was made via His Creativity? Jesus Himself. And thus it is written in Psalm 89:13 "Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand."
What a wonderful and amazing God we have. Hallelujah

In the typology of Jesus in the sacrifice of Isaac, I think this is a prime example of free will. I do believe that we have free will and I do believe that Abraham could have denied God and I believe if that had happened our existence, now--modern day descendents, would not have come about. Possibly the human family would have ended long ago

I believe Sarah is also a type of Israel and the church. Who in the case of Israel was barren, but brought forth the seed to inherit the gentiles Isaiah 54 and Galatians 4. Israel was split between mocking and praise when Jesus was brought forth. Similarly, the church institution seems barren in appearances, but will bring forth those who rule with Christ (Rev 12) (highly debated).

Brother Mike, when you were explaining "the Word" and how God, "through" Jesus/the Word created all thing, it became very confusing to me. I have a simple grasp of the Godhead being separate persons, yet one being however, your explanation confounded me a little. Through as apposed to by.
Example, Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Proof that Jesus Christ is God.
    Another, John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
    Another, Colossians 1:16-17
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Another, 1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
When you say "through", I seem to picture it as God/the Father speaking "Let there be light" and that phonic sound traveling through the Lord Jesus. I know that sound strange, but if there is an explanation on the "through" aspect that would clarify it, that would be great. Thank you.

10:4 littleAl i know its a little later but i thought i would commentz
There are two Greek prepositions that we need to understand here, and they are both agents. The first preposition is Hupo and the second is En, which is used in John 1:3.
Hupo : This means First agency, for example they were baptised by John in the Jordan, John was the primary agent.
EN - This means Second agency. An example of a second agency would be the penning of the scripture, Paul, John or any of the other Biblical authors are the second active agents, but God is the source, since all scripture is God breathed, he is the primary first agent.
In John 1:3 according to the Greek, Jesus was the second active agent so he also is creator. Jesus created along side the Father, they were doing it together. This is consistent with the passages in the Old Testament (Psalm 33:6, 33:9, 148:5), we read in Psalms that God created everything by his word the word of course is Jesus (John chapter 1). There are also passages that speak about God creating by his Wisdom (Jeremiah 10:12, Proverbs 3:19). Jesus in other passages is spoken of as the Wisdom of God (1 Cor 1:24, 1:30, Col 2:3).
Therefore to treat Jesus as the Fathers impersonal agent in creation is simply not true to the Greek. Second agents can be impersonal, such as “I baptise you with water”, water is the impersonal second agent, but that is not the case in John 1:3.
One Greek scholar put it this was:
“διά means "through", indicating instrument of doing, like a surgeon makes operation through his hands (διὰ χερῶν), or the sun enlightens through rays (δι᾽ἀκτίνων). As a surgeon is perfectly impotent to operate without hand, and the sun perfectly impotent to enlighten without rays, so the Father is perfectly impotent either to create the world or to save the world without His Son, who, therefore, is co-eternal and co-divine with Him, as plainly said by John”
If this verse is translated as BY him, it highlights that Jesus was the active second agent in creation, but if it says THROUGH, it relays that the Father was the source of creation, they are both supported by the Greek. So it should say “by and through him”
For more on this I would recommend a good exegetical Greek commentary on New Testament, for example Baker’s New Testament commentary. I would also recommend having a look at what the Scholar Daniel Wallace says.

Hello, allow me to explain the situation.
I won't sneak up on you, I'll tell you right now I am a Roman Catholic, I was raised Catholic but being lukewarm I became a witch. Then I encountered God for the first time as a Protestant. I started off as a Calvinist, then Baptist, then Lutheran, then Anglican, and then finally I returned to Catholicism but this time being devout and no hypocrite.
I believe it is God who has guided me to you, our paths are vaguely similar, perhaps more clearly in some time.
If I could summerize the problem it would really be that not a single one of the Protestant denominations were started by Jesus in person. It is even hinted at in our language, we say LUTHERanism, CALVINism, etc.
If a particular tradition bears the name of a man, why not, but if the true faith itself bears such a name it is abominable. Such is not the case of CATHOlicism, meaning universal in Latin.
Why universal? Because the old covenant was singular, only for Israel, whereas the new is for all nations, universal.
Why Roman Catholic? By passing the typical responses which note that it is not the official title of the Church, Roman has remained as the most popular qualifier of the Church because Rome is the symbolical successor of Israel.
The Roman Empire is a certain sense governed over the entire world, over all nations, including Israel.
Therefore to say Roman Catholic is actually a redundancy in a sense.
I will substantiate this thing about Rome and Israel more, but you'll have to wait and read it in my second comment because there's a lot and I won't even be able to quote everything, I've written a lot and you'll find the rest on my website linked on my channel page. Not to mention of course that the universal church is headed in Rome.
Catholicism was founded by Jesus in person, it is the substance of Christianity, I'll try to show you that next.
      *Christianity (percentage wise) :*
☩ Catholicism 52% [one single communion, absolute majority, default ]
☩ Orthodoxy 18% [multiple communions, overly ethnic churches]
      ☩ Protestantism 30% [30.000+ denominations]
Note: there isn't one single denomination in Protestantism which by itself can reach even just the 10% mark, and the biggest denomination if the Anglican Church with 80 million members.
In Jesus' days, the religious authorities who were the closest to the truth were also the absolute majority
      (Matthew 23: 1-3)
      *Christianity (governance) :*
Note: Is the Church called the Democracy of God, the Anarchy of God, or the Kingdom of God?
☩ Catholicism (Absolute Monarchy, because of davidic implications)
☩ Orthodoxy (Democracy, because of conciliarism)
☩ Protestantism (Anarchy, because of Bible 'alone')
      *Christianity (apparition of title) :*
☩ Catholicism (107 AD, letters of St. Ignatius of Antioch where we were first called Christians --> Christ 33 AD)
☩ Orthodoxy (11th century, before that the title was only used as a secondary to Catholic)
      ☩ Protestantism (16th century, Reformation)
Note: St. Ignatius of Antioch was discipled by St. John the Apostle and ordained by St. Peter himself.
He wrote letters also to two churches mentioned in Revelation, 10 years after Revelation, and he affirmed Catholic doctrine and condemned Gnostic doctrines like the disbelief in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

*Please don't be intimidated by the quantity of text, I don't expect a debate, you're genuinly concerned and I just want to try and help, I am at your disposal.*
Jews(individual, one nation only) VS Romans(universal, many nations including Israel)
      *FIRST SET*
      1. Jesus is said to be astonished exactly 2 times in the Bible. The first time is when he is astonished at the lack of faith in his Jewish hometown, it was so bad that he could barely express his ministry in the miraculous domain(Mk 6: 2-6).
The second time it is when a Roman soldier, faithful to God, went through the pain of finding and intercepting him during his ministry to ask him with the greatest humility to heal his servant; Jesus says that he has not seen greater faith not even in Israel(Mt 8: 5-13).
      2. When given the opportunity to speak with the Roman Pontius Pilate, the government official responsible over Judea, Jesus engages into a relatively long and quite famous discussion with Pilate. Whereas he does not even utter a word to King Herod who is of the Jews and executed St. John the Baptist despite himself as Pilate is about to do(Jn 18: 33-37).
The Roman authorities, represented by Pontius Pilate, admit that Christ has done no evil, in contrast to the Jewish authorities who require the life of Christ the Innocent par excellence(Lk 23: 4-5).
      3. Pontius Pilate lets Christ be crucified despite his own disapproval, and commands Roman soldiers to write the famous "INRI" title on the cross over the head of Christ. This he does regardless of the complaints of the Jews(Jn 19: 19-22).
      4. At the foot of the cross, when almost all the Apostles have abandoned Christ and his carcass was hanging on the bloody wood, the first to recognize the true beauty of the Christ's macabre execution and to convert is a Roman centurion(Mk 15: 39; Lk 23:4 7). And the other Roman soldiers that were with the centurion and had previously bet on the clothes of the crucified saw the Christ for who he really was(Mt 27: 54).
      *SECOND SET*
      1. The Passover Feast of the Jews(Ex 12: 14, 24) is fulfilled in and kept in the Catholic Church as the Eucharist which is literally the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ(Jn 6; 1 Cor 11: 27-29). In the Old Testament, everyone celebrating the Passover Feast was commanded by GOD to eat the meat of the lamb for death to “Passover”. He is our lamb and his blood is our New Testament(Mt 26: 28) .
      2. The Tabernacle Bread of the Presence (Leviticus 24: 5-9, Exodus 25: 30) is also fulfilled in Jesus Christ becomes the true “Bread of the Presence” during the Mass consecration.
      3. Jewish holy day of atonement(sabbath), priest in holy garments, making atonement on the altar(Lev 16: 30-33). Catholic holy day of atonement(Lord's day), Catholic priest in holy garments, making atonement on the altar(Eucharist absolves all venial sins and all punishments, mortal sins are only dealt with in the confessional but venial punishment remains).
      4. Priests were chosen by succession through the will of man, approved thereafter by God systematically provided his pre-established conditions of kinship were respected(Lev 16: 32). Catholic priests are chosen by apostolic succession through the will of man, approved thereafter by God systematically as he has bound his grace to accept the decision.
      5. More specifically on the Levitical Priesthood (Ex 29: 7-9, Ex 40: 15, 1 Chr 23: 13, Num 25: 12-13, Jer 33: 14-22, Isa 66: 21, Mal 2: 4-7, Mal 3: 3). Jesus Christ fulfills the Levi Covenant promise, by reconciling and ordaining the 12 apostles (analaguous to 12 tribes) for Priesthood in the upper room before his Passion. And Jesus demands of them that they “do this in remembrance of [him}.” This may seem like weak evidence on the surface, but in the Gospel of St. John 13: 1-20 Jesus prior to his passion washes and “purifies” the Apostles to prepare them for priestly altar work (fulfilling Mal 3: 3 and the priest washing in Ex 30: 21).
As the Old Testament Feasts, a levitical form of priesthood has to preside at the altar of sacrifice, be washed, and ultimately has to abstain or be celibate to even touch the “Bread of the Presence”(case for celibacy or abstinance).

DeAnne, you do not have to re-invent Christianity, everything you've though of Jesus already thought of before you.
Look, Jesus knew Satan would try to confuse us with thousands of denominations:
      *Gospel of St. Luke 22: 24-32* -
*24* And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
      [VERY IMPORTANT, TAKE NOTE)
[This places the context, the answer will be appealing to a visible kingdom, a theocratic monarchy]
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
[This places the context, the answer will be appealing to a visible kingdom, a theocratic monarchy]
[In order to correctly safeguard the Holy Faith, this kingdom must exist and persist]
28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
      29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, AS my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
[In order to correctly safeguard the Holy Faith, this kingdom must exist and persist]
*31* And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you(Christians), that he may sift you(Christians) as wheat(Confusion):
*32* But I have prayed for thee(Pope, the visible unifier), that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren(Christians).
Look, when faced with divisions they convened a council, in Acts 15, and St. Peter made the final decision.
Notice how St. James ends the council by mentioning the davidic implications, in trying to console the silenced party.
They even send out letters in Acts 15 and this supervision of Church doctrine from top to bottom has for result the increase of membership in the Church of Christ(Acts 16: 4-6).
*Have confidence in God, he has not left us orphans, he gave us a Church, he did not just drop a Bible from the sky and leave us with it, he gave us first and foremost a Church and that Church wrote the Bible.*

I don't think any denomination is perfectly correct as we are human and easily confused! But God's Word can be trusted perfectly. So if you take every teaching and song and check it against God's Word, praying for discernment and guidance from the Holy Spirit, you will find what's true. Ask God to show you! Seek His face for which church is right for you. Ask our God!

JESUS is not in the Tanakh, John was written long after everybody who knew Jesus was dead and gone so there was nobody to say John was wrong, all Christians have to realize you are a man and these are your interpretations and you are the one changing Gods word and you have to answer to God for your teachings God says repent of your sins keep the Torah and the Sabbath and He will Forgive your sins, and remember Jesus was not sacrificed on the Alter he was blemished he was human so he was not a sacrifice that would be accepted by God,if you trust in God don't change his words, He tells you all through the Tanakh that He is one there is no other Saviour but him.

Even if it was written around 90CE, then it was not long after everybody who knew Jesus was dead and gone. It's likely it was written earlier, but 90CE is a conservative estimate. If the earliest fragment we have of John was from about 150CE, then giving time for writing and circulation it's not unreasonable to think it was around 90CE. The name Jesus may not be in the Tanakh, but there are clearly signs of the messiah to come.

Crystalgames1211 James is trying to demonstrate what real faith looks like. In this, the statement 'not by faith alone' in v24 really means not by mere words of assent alone without intent to follow through. When Paul argues that Abraham was justified by faith and not by works, it is because Abraham had faith that when tested would do what was required. Abraham's actions were merely demonstrating the reality and kind of his faith (a living and not dead faith).

John 10: 17 & 18. I think Jesus was a little bit brainwashed to be honest because it was not God's will that Jesus should have nearly lost his life. I think those Jews that said Jesus was mad and had a devil went too far in their criticism of him.
