I watched countless reviews on 12 vs. 12 pro for weeks. In my opinion, this is the most helpful review out there right now. I didn't pre-order because I wanted to wait until hands-on reviews like this come out. I'm big on photo and video but just can't deal with the size of pro max. Thanks for helping me finally decide which one to buy! I'm going for 12 pro.
iPhone 12 mini is most worth it. Compact and “affordable” for its features.
I feel like if you’re the kind of person that only expects to have your iPhone for 2 years max, the 12 is perfectly fine. But if you’re like me and you intend to hold on to your phone for 4 + years, either of the Pros seems like the better bet and worth the money. I opted for the 12 Pro.
iPhone get updates up to 4 years so the iPhone x has 2 years before they stop updating it to the latest IOS

Yes, waiting a few years between upgrades means you really enjoy the benefits of the extra cost. I'd like to wait 5 years between upgrades but the longest I have been able to hold out is 3 years - 6 Plus to XS was a great upgrade, but XS to 12 - not so sure!

I have S20+ & iPhone 12 both (iPhone has always been my primary). Only video is better I guess on the iPhone, rest everything I love on Samsung (especially the display, multitasking features, call recording feature, dual WhatsApp, etc).

Another thing to consider is that the 12 Pro is more future proof thanks to the additional ram. The ~10% price difference pays off over time by giving you a smoother running phone for longer. That’s especially important to consider since the true potential of the a14 is yet to be realized.

Yeah, the 6GB of RAM is a huge deal. I haven’t had a single app reload on me yet. It’s joyous! To me it’s the biggest reason alone to upgrade this year and I know most won’t even realize or care but 4GB of RAM is no longer enough on iOS.
the A14 chip they both have is already enough to make the phone useable for 4+ years. I got the 12 and don't mind waiting an extra 1.5s for app to reload into ram, but if the pro model had promotion display, that would "future proof" the iPhone.

Going for the Max as well. Not fan of big phones but the 50% bigger lenses and the new stabilization mode are worth the “sacrifice”.

You are fortunate in the US by having such a small price difference between the 2 models. In Europe it is much much higher, so I went for the 12, and am pretty happy with it.

At first I had my heart set on the iPhone 12 pro because of how it looked and because I thought the camera was way better, until I watched some more reviews and realised they are practically the same and the chances of me using portrait mode at night time are very slim considering I don’t even use it in the day, so I’m going to have to go for the 12 because I can even get more gbs for less money so for me it’s perfect

Great video, I know 13 came out but this will be my first iPhone so I'm gonna get a used 12 pro in excellent condition.
The reason I prefer the 12 more is not only being $200 cheaper but it's also 25g lighter. The X/XS/XR/11/11 Pro/12 Pro are all generally heavy. And T-Mobile has many trade-in offers for it.
Really waiting for your review on the 12 pro max. That’s the one I am interested in, but will wait yet and see what the reviews tell me. Currently have the XR and it works great!

I originally wanted the 12 mini but realized I need another iPhone for media consumption. Owning an SE1 and 12 mini would be overkill. So I'm now torn between XR vs 11 vs 12.
That’s what I’ve been saying all along. Most people need 128GB storage anyway, and $120 extra buys you a lot more features with the Pro. The telephoto camera and the extra 2GB RAM alone are worth the price difference. Having a steel frame, LIDAR, 60 hz Dolby HDR, night mode portrait, and ProRAW format are icing on the cake.

im buyin the normal one just because of the weight. got the X and i still think it is heavy at 174g. but i really like the lidar, the extra ram and the shiny border xD
Weight is a big one for me. I don't like the heavy weight all the time.
However, I was curious about the night time photos, now, I don't take night time portraits really, so that doesn't bother me (and actually I could share a night time portrait I took on the 12 and I think you might be quite surprised how it looks). I did wonder if the Lidar would help with astrophotography, but I haven't seen any one say that it would, plus I phoned Apple and asked and the fellow said that it most likely would not, it would just help with focusing on a subject.
The ram...that is a bit of an issue as I have noticed certain times where the 12 freezes...
The telephoto, normally that would push me towards it, but because of the weight of the 12 and so far I have been super happy with it, I think I will stay with the 12 and not upgrade to the 12 pro.
I still can’t get over how bad those data rates are in the US.
Here in Vancouver, Canada I regularly get 100-150MB down, and 15-20MB up on regular 4G LTE with both my iPhone 8 and iPhone 11.

Definitely go for the pro, if you’re not extremely weight sensitive. 120 bucks is a small fraction in this price tag range.

This is the place to go for the most useful info on Apple products imo and I subscribe to several other reviewers. As far as keeping your phone for many years, I think one must also consider the trade value as well as provider incentives. For me this year, my Xs Max trade netted me a 50% discount on a 12 Pro.

This video was exactly the logic I had and the same conclusion I came to when deciding. I went Pro because I’m not planning on upgrading for a minimum of 4 years and am a camera nerd. Thought about the max for a moment but the 6.1” display is already pushing it for a one handed phone.
It depends on your financial situation if you are in a tight budget of course you should stick with the regular 12 but if you are financially strong please go for the pro without any hesitation,it’s worth the money 💰 and it’s an amazing iPhone,thank you so much for the review.
Good info Max, thanks 🙏🏻 I’m ordering the 12 Pro Max purely because I have the Xs Max now and do like the larger screen BUT I can also see me sending it back and going for the smaller 12 Pro as well. I’m struggling to make my mind up at the moment and won’t be going to any Apple stores either. The larger phones are ok, it’s the weight that gets on my nerves. Already the 12 Pro Max weighs 2g more than my Xs Max with a Pitaka MagCase on it. So by the time I get a case on the 12 Pro Max it will be heavier again. Anyway, I am upgrading regardless to get the Qualcomm modem, never mind anything else. My 6S Plus had better indoor reception than my Xs Max has ever had. Crazy.

Coming from an Xr, the OLED screen is the only thing I really wanted along with a lighter weight so the 12 ticked all the boxes. I’m very happy with it.
@@chileanywaysso_ had the xr and my friend has the 11. To me the xr and 11 are so similar in build and more importantly screen type. The 12 is amazing and better than the xr in every way and I LOVED the xr lol. Get the 12 if possible.

Im so glad I preorder my iphone 12 pro Max today lol I've had the Iphone 6s for a LONG time now, so I was overdue an upgraded, I literally just waited a whole year because I felt like the 11 just wasn't it but the 12 really sold it for me!
I’m currently testing both too. I want to love the 12 Pro more but the added weight and less grip is killing me! I use my phone naked and and the iPhone 12 feels some lighter and easier to use for extended period of times.
Plot twist. Ended up keeping the 12 Pro for the build and Telephoto lens. I got used to the weight
Update. 6 months later buying the 12 and selling the Pro! My pinky can't take it anymore!

Still more than happy with my XS Max. I bought it renewed when it was already a year old for around £500. I’ve since had the battery replaced by Apple. Should be fine for another year or two at least. I look at the rumoured specs of the 13 and apart from slightly better photos and video, 120hz (I own an iPad Pro and it’s an overrated feature) it doesn’t do anything the XS can do perfectly well. By all means go ahead and strive for the newest shiniest thing but as I’ve grown a little older I’m much less bothered about status symbols. It either offers a decent cost to benefit ratio or it doesn’t. I’ll keep my XS Max around until a feature comes along I want that it doesn’t have.
I almost went with the 12 just because I really like the blue color, but I ended up going with the 12 pro in pacific blue instead. I used the telephoto lens quite frequently on the 11 Pro and didn't want to give that up.
I bought both the 12 and the 12 Pro Max about a month ago and I still can't decide which one I prefer. I got both of them second-hand, but still boxed and sealed for about $250 less altogether (and no tax, of course). My SIM card is in the 12 and I use the 12 Pro Max for shooting vids and various music apps.

Love that you guys are from Spokane. I grew up taking swimming lessons at Terrace View.
For me, I just want a smaller phone so I was planning to get the 12 Mini. My 10S doesn’t have LiDar but it does have the 2x zoom so that is one thing I am a little worried about missing.
The last thing is about storage space. I keep hearing 128GB is the sweet spot but my phone has 256GB and after two years I’m using 210GB. 90 of that is used on photos so maybe I need to use more cloud or edit myself better but the OS/Other category is also using 30. Am I doing something wrong bc it seems like 128 could get chewed up right quick.
I finally got my 256Gb Pro yesterday. No regrets at all. A device that I plan to keep for 3-4 years.
