"When I play, I don't think, well now I sweep, now I tap, etc. I look for the note I need to play and I find a way to play it." - Christian Muenzner
Christian Muenzner changed the way I play guitar and made me a much better player. I've learned so much from him. Stefan Kummerer is amazing too. I love his vocals and lyrics. He's an incredible song writer and an amazing guitar player. I'm so excited this duo has reunited!
I totally agree. Beyond excellent musicianship.
I'm sick of people saying technical music has no soul because they don't do long bends and make emotional faces when they do vibrato. Just because you don't get a good feeling from it doesn't mean they didn't put feeling into it, or that the fans don't get one. These guys pour their hearts into their playing. Give them the respect they deserve.
Exactly. I think it's because blues fanboys are musically close minded. The harmonic minor, phrygian and phrygian modes don't appeal to them and that's okay. But saying technical playing has no soul because they don't like it is ridiculous. They won't say that to Franz Liszt, Mozart and Bach, partially because they're dead and partially because they are universally studied and held in high regard. Metal, especially technical death metal is a relatively small niche so an outsider may not appreciate the nuance and passion and soul put into it.
Imagine them saying a sitar player, shamisen player or Andalusian guitarist has "no soul" while they have zero love of different music genres.
Cheguei ligeiramente atrasado mas não posso deixar em branco... Belas palavras irmão. Falou bonito.
@@technicaldeathmetalhead
@@technicaldeathmetalhead bravo this guys wont know how to appreciate some classical musicians ,im a yngwie , shrapnel ,greg howe ,satch , trash megadeth ,lover i can appreciate how much focus ,emotion goes into coming up with pieces ,mind boggles me what pieces bach vivaldi , paganini came up with 300 yrs ago n with absolute articulation , this ppl are just mainstream bruno mars , justin beiber ,elvis ,beatles Uk got talent types , takes time for them to understand a music player mate \m/ n in fact im born in 70's haha howsz that n i learn some of neo-classical stuffs but struggles with paul gilbert's super fast stuff lo
@Spoohkybooh666 the ironic thing is yngwie had amazing vibrato, far greater than any of his haters. And what's funnier, if anybody is trying to put down your guitar skills, and you show them a video of you playing a yngwie solo the argument is over lol. Usually this situation happens if I called somebody over rated or call a bad performance a bad performance, people. You're not allowed to express your opinion on the internet about anything unless you're a pro, and thy can say what they want but they all have to respect his skills.
Christian Münzner is amazing
@Anant Raman Yeah, he was.
Comeback 2020
Абсолютно!!!
@Anant Raman and was in Spawn Of Possession for their Incurso album. He also was a very early member of Defeated Sanity. If only Muhammet from Necrophagist allowed Christian creative freedom on Epitaph... that third album could have actually happened... either way Christian is extremely talented and creative. Omnivium was Obscura’s best album in my opinion, obviously Christian played a huge role here.
Absolute monster of a musician
and steffen kummerer does vocals with THIS. holy fucking shit. i cannot play his parts without even thinking ffs.
you need weed brah, jk, or am i?
NecroComet these guys write and perform all their material without the assistance of drugs or alchahol
NecroComet so if they can, everybody else can too.
Cole Dunham Exactly.
NecroComet Don't smoke weed guise.
The tapping solo with the whammy bar mesmerizes me every time. It's so beautiful.
Now I can devote the rest of my life to learning half of this song.
6 years later I still haven't learn passed the intro 🤣🤣
i can't even believe how amazing christian is at guitar. it almost looks like he's not even playing the solo. his movements are so minimalistic
So happy Chris is back!!!
This playthrough inspired me as a 16 year old to learn this song, and now 9 years later (2 years after last playing regularly) has reinpassioned me to play this again.
This will always remain my favorite guitar playthrough.
One of the best technical DM bands
fabian manua They also got their name from one of the best tech death bands.
Josh Schulz Their album
Matthew Etter They got their name from the Obscura album, by American tech death pioneers, Gorguts.
+Josh Schulz
Gorguts is actually from Canada (although most of the members of the band's current line-up are American). I'd say that not only is Gorguts one of the best tech death bands but also one of the best metal bands in general (right next to Death, Cynic and Agalloch).
William Ciluzzo You're right, Gorguts is Canadian.
Omnivium was a masterpiece of an album
The way Christian plays is so effortless. I am vastly intrigued by the way his left hand rests and moves and facilitates the very accuracy of his playing. His style on that hand is very different than what I've seen in this genre before...he uses his pinky a LOT more than I would expect a techdeath player to. It's almost as if he is doing so with purpose. Amazing.
Christian suffers focal dystonia in his left forearm, which leaves him unable to use his middle finger normally, that's why he uses his pinky a lot more and minimizes hand movement when playing
Holy fuck, and he still DOES ALL THIS SHIT??? NO WAY
+Lucas Jenkins Yeah he's a beast. I remember him saying on some interview that he's actually regained most of his control in his left hand but he still plays like that because he realised it sounds better.
yes way. he's a very stubborn man... and thanks to that, he's inspired many other players with hand disorders such as focal dystonia and carpal tunnel;, myself included, to keep trying and never give up playing. He had to rewrite his solos on this album to accommodate the disorder as it flared up in earnest after writing the album but before hte recording process. I don't know what the original riffs/solos sounded like or looked like, but knowing him, they sounded exactly the same, just with less tapping. Of note, I was on the verge of selling all my equipment and giving up music, until I saw this video... I fig'd that if he could overcome losing use of a finger, and still play the most complex leads, I could get over my pins and needles in my left hand, make some adjustments and keep playing... of all the music I wrote up til my wrist failed, only two give me problems still to play, and one I can play once a day, the other wasn't a complete song anyways, and I wasn't really sold on it since it was a bit out of my usual style. But yea, these days Chris has better control of the focal dystonia and even manages to use the finger on some things, but it still curls up when he does some chords requiring fretting multiple strings with the index finger...
Dude that's awesome.
Looks like Christian is back on the menu, boys!!!
Welcome back Christian
I have had the 3 LPs from them for a while, but I can't stop listening to them. For the past 2 months listening to music is synonomus with listening to Obscura
And this is why these guys are at the top of the pile…absolutely stunning.
These guys have complete control over their arms and hands. And their minds.
Still the most beautiful Solo that I ever hear in my entire life. Thank you so much Chris.
Christian Münzner master mind in the 2 best allbums of obscura ,,, living up to the name
actually not only him, but steffen, hannes and linus. these guys are insane and wrote music together. sadly, steffen has an enormious ego and claims others work sometimes :( . i don't mean that he is not doing anything - he does in fact, but just saying. suuuper hyped for new album by the way, chris is back :)
this song deserves a Grammy!
True
met them at a show, they are some of the nicest, most polite i have ever met. plenty of emotion live.
Just to answer those questions in one post:
The guitars used in this video are:
Münzner: Ibanez RGD 2127Z and Ibanez JEM 77 BFP.
Kummerer: RAN Custom model (based on the 80's Hondo H1 Death Dagger).
The solo is something only Christian can pull off, at 2:10, he is using 4 finger pulloffs, i couldnt figure out the notes, but by seeing this playthrough i now understand, he has a super pinky.
He doesnt use the pinky
@@j.pabloquinche3283 yea he does. At 2:11 during the diminished line, the last note on the D string and B string are tapped with his right hand pinky.
@@thecrypticstench He doesnt, you can watch in live versions and the playability of the official tabs
@@j.pabloquinche3283 nah man, the OP is referring to the diminished line which Christian exclusively uses his left index and pinky as well as his right middle and pinky to tap the line. Slow the clip and you’ll see what I mean.
@@thecrypticstench i wonder if in modern times Christian Muenzner changed up his fingerings for some of this stuff. He had to quit Obscura for a bit to lower his workload because he started developing focal dystonia in his left hand which affected his ability to use his pinky
До сих пор пересматриваю, настоящее удовольствие от такого чистого и мелодичного звука,было же время)
I love Christian's solo in this song, both technical and soulful. It reminds me of Uli Jon Roth.
The complexity of the song is just ridiculous
You're right Don Ramon.
+Gabriel Chávez pipipipipipipi!
+Mikhail 0. IKR, composition and execution.
ya llegó la tablatura chancluda
sebastián gamboa jajaja
its so frustrating that they are playing this song like it is just nothing. mad skills
Yeah, The song has crazy riffs
30 years of experience in guitar...and a real hardworking and passionate
@@tanchokdewan9020 i want their clean af alt picking technique
@juna wood i will
so that i can finally do the alt picked string skips in the main riff in septuagint instead of downpicking them
good practice makes perfect
@@lashedandscorned Low gain and a lot of compression will help
These guys are releasing an album sometime next year, I am absolutely waiting to hear it.
2:49... my mind just blew...
That's just marvelous, thanks for uploading this, seriously, watching this makes me feel so good that there is still real musicians making real music.
OMG.. This is amazing, guys!! This is the best performance of death metal guitarists that I've ever seen on youtube!
This solo is a true accomplishment to learn
That was incredible! Thank you for uploading this
I think this just shows how good steffen kummerer is, he plays all THIS and sings at the same time
Vocalist looks like he's going to a fancy supper after this.
DergDergonBern no i think he accidentally made it his profile pic
DergTheDergon why don't you thank your social environment? I mean they've taught you the arachophobia
Captain StankyPants ahahahahah! u made me laugh hard XD it true, altho i don't know which one, firstime visiting here
Ֆαυ∂y ϑιѕιgσтнιc dude on the right
ok :) cute!
So beautiful!
This is amazing!!
Incredible!
would definitely prefer this guitar mix over the original album mix
Agree... More loud and clear
Probably the best sinature i ever seen !
To those that say they don't use the 7th string, they do on several songs in Omnivium. It's on Ocean Gateways, Euclidean Elements, Velocity, A Transcendental Serenade, and Aevum. That's more than half the album, then eh?
This songs uses it for the tap section too
This is beautiful! Post more of these please :)
that RAN guitar...awesome, amazing musicians too of course!
some really really clean playing
Masterpiece!
I agree with you. This is at least the thousandth time I've watched this video and I feel very good inside

The guitar solo is awesome¡
The whole song is amazing!
You guys rule!
Thanks for the vid!
incredible -
i'm in love ... with a video
holy Shit!!!! Amazing!!! Stefen and Christian are incredible!!!
Wow those riffs and melodies are more complex that I could imagine. Hate to say this but who needs a new Necrophagist album anyway when we have these guys?
Awesome
Chris is back!!
Amazing
I bet it pisses Steffen off everytime someone mentions how awesome Christian Muenzner is in this video. I mean it's true, Chris is awesome, and I dgaf who get's mad :D
The worst thing about it is that Steffen's rhythm lines are actually harder throughout most of the song IMO. I started learning it and mostly stuck to Christian's track for that reason.
Okay yeah the solo is crazy, but imagine doing that shit and vocals at the same time, id say its at least even lmao
Solo e música transcendental, além do tempo e espaço
increible!!1
I can’t believe that Christian is suffering from forcal dystonia. Too awesome.
Perfecto para estos días de locura.
\m/ love this song.
That fucking solo is something else.... wow.
I once listened to this on acid. Greatest transcendental experience of my life.
This is so cool...I wouldn't get off my chair 'till I get this track....and Euclidean Elements
Awesome! \m/

Steffen is using his own Ran Guitars custom he had built for him. Christian is using an Ibanez RGD2127z for the rhythms and an Ibanez JEM-77 BFP for the lead part.
My logo I did for Marcus to Obscura keep the beautyness nowdays...

Emotions are for the stage, sir.
Terrifying! I'm scared of the tab for this song. I wanna learn it but every time I look at it my mind recoils in horror.
