- a quick, very simple visual explanation of the icing rule using nhl13 as it applies to hockey and how the rule is different in the nhl. This was done before hybrid icing was put in place, but still same concept. Video shows several of different examples. BEST EXPLANATION ON CZcams! I will make another vid explaining hybrid icing as soon as possible, but it is the same concept. If u follow the old icing rules, you'll be fine with hybrid icing. Hybrid icing was put in place to protect the players from the collisions that occur along the boards due to the players Racing for the puck. Now the linesman will blow the whistle as soon as it passes the horizontal hash marks on the last face off circles as long as a Defender has a lead on the offensive player. Whoever crosses that hash mark first determines whether it's a penalty or not. Once the defenseman crosses the hash marks the play is blown dead before they collide against the boards.

I’m new to hockey so this video was very informational. Thank you
my sport is soccer but since the 90s i have liked hokey specially the penguins and up until now with your video i have learned what icing is now i can live my life in peace and keep on enjoying the game gracias...
I'm ready to get my hockey tickets for 2019 and wish for more of your explanations on hockey. Your voice is at a nice pace, not too fast, and the hockey game simulation is excellent. Thanks!
Thank you !
Have wondered that for years !
Finally decided to find out what it was !
I was skeptical of the shaky cam but this ended up being very helpful.
Ive recieved so many great comments from so many people. I posted this video 4 years ago along with " offsides in hockey" by Devenc20. You are all very welcome, and I am very glad to be able to help people understand the rules of the greatest game on Earth! I will be doing a new hybrid icing video very soon, and if anyone has any other requests, please let me know in the comments! Thank u all for watching! I never expected anything close to this many views!
By far the best explanation I've heard. Thank you much!
And thank u Redman Smith, glad to do it. i live in NM, and lived in CA so here its very rare to be a hockey fan. just want more people to understand it and hopefully realize what an amazingly exciting sport it is. It was NHL11 that really made me become a fan, and with the new physics skating, and hitting engine, and if course the brand new enforcer engine and new fighting system which was created using "Fight Night", this is by far the most realistic immersive sports games i have ever played
Now I know the difference between clearing the puck and icing. I thought NBA rules were complicated. Thank you for the clear explanation.
Very informative.. I had always knew kinda what it was but never really knew. Thanks!
thank you i play peewee hockey goalie and my coach is always telling me to raise my hand when a player ices it but i never knew when to raise it this vid helps
Marek Jorgenson. Glad to help buddy. Your coach wants u to raise your hand when u notice the opposing team hit the puck from behind the center (red) line and you can tell that its hard enough tat it is going to cross your goalline. This tells your teammates that they need to hustle down and just touch the puck with their stick and you will get a faceoff in their zone plus they cannot substitute while your team can get fresh players against hopefully a tired team. As a goalie, u don't want to touch the puck if its going to be icing because if the goalie touches it, then it is not icing. Only touch it if it is on net and you have to make a save, or in the rare case that a player from the other team beat your defensemen down the ice and is going to get to it 1st. Good luck out there buddy, hope to see u on tv someday!

One of the better explanations, and most likely due to the visual aid, as well as multiple scenarios. PS. When will you do the one on the new hybrid ice?
Thank you so much!!! Trying to become a more knowledgeable hockey fan this season, this helped!
Thanks for posting this vid, Iceing still really confuses me but this helps a bit.
Rehpic ..... The Original Gamer it would be a very boring game without icing. It would be almost impossible to score as the defense would be able to just slap it down the ice anytime they are in trouble or tired. This makes the defence have to work to get it out of their dzone so they can change lines and regroup. This is why the penalty for icing is not only getting a face off deep in the penalized teams defensive zone, but also does not allow them to change lines. The coach will either have to hope his tired players can effectively get the puck into the nuetral zone, or use his only timeout to give tree players a minute to catch their breath. Without icing it would look like air hockey with the puck just going constantly from one end of the ice to the other.
I wanted to add one more thing, I know a lot of you either don't understand why this rule is in place, or just don't like it. If you watch a hockey game and a team is on the powerplay (which means the shorthanded team can ice the puck), as soon as they get possession, they knock it all the way down to the other side. If icing were not in place, it would be extremely hard for an offensive team to score. This rule makes the defense work to get the puck out of their defensive zone, and allows the team on offense a chance to forcheck and get a stolen pass and keep it in their offensive zone. Without icing it would be a very boring game because if a team is tired and needs a line change, or if the offense is getting good opportunities, the defense would just knock the puck to the other end as soon as they get a chance. Basically the puck would just be going back and forth across the ice. icing makes the game much more exciting and makes a defense make a play to get it out of their Zone and across Center ice so they can slap it in. That's the biggest reason, it makes the defense at least make it to the Center Line before they can dump the puck down the ice.
Thanks, now I got it!
This helped quite a bit. Thanks for posting.
Very clear! Thanks!
Thank you. Well explained.
This was b4 hybrid icing which sucks in my opinion. i will try to post a video explaining the new hybrid icing rule. also a former commenter was correct about the goalie penalty that was there that i didn't think about. the goalie cannot touch the puck outside of the trapazoid that is behind the goal. good catch and thanks for noticing! please thumbs up if this helped u out as far as the icing rule basics! i also have a vid explaining offsides if its helpful to u. thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for explaining this man
Its nhl14 that i was referring to in that last post
That helped me a lot, thank you
That was the best explanation. It was very useful.
awesome examples.
Thank you for telling me WHY! I have watched so many videos telling be the rule and it does not makes any since. But you explaining why the rule was put into place it makes since. If anybody knows, is there a rule like this in indoor soccer?
Very well explained thank you
Good explanation. Thank you.
I always wondered. Thanks for explaining! #GoodDayEh
great video. any thought of making one about hybrid icing?
Redman Smith. Absolutely.... i know I've been saying it for awhile now, but I will be updating to the hybrid icing rule very soon. Thanks for watching!
Thanks i finally get it !!!!!! :D
thanks!
tanks
I'm new to the sport, I'm just thinking isn't the rule counterproductive? Like the point of the rule in the first place was to stop teams clearing it upfield when they're in danger but if they do it and their own player gets to the puck first then they're through on goal, which awards them for doing something the lawmakers are trying to eradicate from the game??
+bsheehy94 Yes but if you clear the puck down the ice from your zone you have almost 0 chance of getting it first. The Hybrid icing rule makes it even harder now
It would be near impossible for your own team mate to get to the puck first, he would have to be offside for that to happen
If your playing any normal defensive zone strategy and you had a player shoot the puck from your goal line 9.99/10 times it will be icing

I spelled zone wrong in the last comment, sry
Viktigt tips...Håll kameran still... Mycket irriterande
penalty for the goalie
adzwild good catch bro! I noticed that right after i posted the video and didn't want to redo it just for that and saying the ref would blow the whistle when i should've said linesman.
Worst rule ever.
20 years laters and I still don't see the point of the Icing rule xD
I guess they want to discourage players from cross passing all game long which kinda makes sense
