  • This is a first burn for the Emberlit Fire Ant Stove not a bad little stove and to tell you the truth it actually performs pretty well. Update: while I may have been harsh on the case it has held up well in the last 2 years.. I did recently have a case made from PNW Bushcraft.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a lighter. I just do not get the negative viewpoint of that. If I NEED a fire now...you bet I use a lighter. I use a ferro or bow drill b/c I enjoy it more then a lighter. Simple as that. Anyway, absolutely great video Shane, you answered several questions I had. I still want it lol Thanks!

    The plastic film used for a lubricant for the tool and die. That way the stoves do not have to be washed before packaging for retail.

      @Shanecoffeyoutdoors  Před 6 lety +1

      Troy Roper III it totally make sense. Doesn’t make it any less of a pain. That’s a small price to pay for a great working little stove.

    The funny thing is that the case is made of a rubberized cordura type material. It's from the boating industry and will last for a VERY LONG TIME!

      Troy Roper III yeah, I’ve talked about it in later videos and on StoveTalk about how well it was holding up. Just not my flavor. I had a case made from PNW Bushcraft.

    I'm glad you said that about the lighter...I got a video to be published in the morning that has a bit about a lighter too...almost quoted the same as you said....lol...That there Stove not allowing me to use my simmer ring...well that is a BIG uh oh...Who let the dogs out???...whooh whooh who who...lol. I like the stove's performance with wood...that is a plus! Thus far, I am a total Stainless Steel fella...just FYI...lol. unless there is a donation of the Titanium to my cause. Brother Shane it has been an honor and pleasure to watch this video...you are into stoves...and I love the pots...and the food that they both produce.

    I find stuffing it with tinder like you did is really an efficient way to burn but it works better for me if I start the fire on top and let it burn down into the stove. Heats water to boiling quick

    These things are great but watch the edges, they can be sharp. I always assemble mine with gloves on now after slicing my hand with it once. Also, that plastic comes off pretty easily. Take it off before burning.

    Thise stoves are so tiny their only good for heating water for coffee or tea and small food. I would love to have one just to play with it and see if I could put it together. Does it have a bottom on it so the twigs won't fall out? Whatcha gonna cook on it? I'm sure it will be good and tasty. Everybody always cooks good food when their out camping. I burned my hair once using a lighter so now I use matches. That scorched smell stayed in my hair for quite awhile. Stay safe.

    A very good and honest review. I've been using my Fire Ant for just over a year now (on average once a weekend), and it is by far my favourite of the wood stoves that I own (+ Biolite, Vargo) for how easy it is to start, keep gong, and manage temperature.
    You are dead on in respect to the way the Trangia hooks in not really all that great, and makes the safety oriented part in me is just not comfortable with using the stove in that way. Generally speaking, I much prefer to use my Vargo as a windscreen and stand instead.
    After seeing you bake on the Firebox Nano, using the Stanley Cook Cup, I kinda want to try that one out now too. : ) In your opinion, how do the two stoves (Fire Ant and Nano) stack up against each other?

  • @paradyne1T101

    Which is better? The Fireant or Firebox Nano?

    • @Shanecoffeyoutdoors
      @Shanecoffeyoutdoors  Před rokem

      Love them both. It's totally up to the type and cooking/camping you are doing. You will have much better luck burning wood in the emberlit and even though the nano is multi fuel it's strongest attribute is using a trangia burner in my opinion.

    im gonna get my first wood stove...been watching videos like crazy...have you seen the videos where users simply pack in quite a bit of the thumb size pieces into the stove first, pretty tight fit, then put your lighter stuff on top and light and feeds from top to bottom? seems like these videos they are able to do nice burns 1-3 cups...vs. having to feed it so much?

    • @Shanecoffeyoutdoors
      @Shanecoffeyoutdoors  Před 8 lety +1

      Bhamlunker it works great either way, it totally depends on what method or stove you prefer to use. Sometimes, it also depends on what you are planning on cooking or, if you are planning on using the same stove To cook numerous things that need different heat settings. Have you checked my other videos or my Instagram @ShaneCoffey_Outdoors I have plenty of stove options and cooking options on there.
      Take care,

    Great review but i feel it stopped too early. How long does it take to cool before it can be packed? Is it easy to clean? Does it make a mess of the pouch or your pack with all the soot? Can you move it whilst lit if, say, the wind changed or rain came in and you had to re-locate? Is there a point where there is too much ash and you need to empty it before continuing the fire or will it burn all day if need be? I realise also this has only just been obtaines but id also be interested in it's longevity...do the tabs bend or break if dropped or sat on or something? Does it warp over time or degrade after a few uses? Would love to see a follow up. Still, dont get me wrong great review and a really interesting product. Am quite keen to get one I think!

    • @Shanecoffeyoutdoors
      @Shanecoffeyoutdoors  Před 8 lety +1

      Hi Andy, Thanks for watching and thanks for asking these Questions. They are actually really good questions for people looking into stoves. As far as the longevity time will tell. I've had the Emberlit Origianl for 3 years and I have friends who have them as well, hobo style stoves like this are not cool to the touch, you can move them if you carry a Multitool with you in case of emergency. I usually use a wind screen when I'm out most times. When I'm testing out a stove I Just use the bare necessities to give it a harder time and see how well it performs. It's best to always let a stove cool on its own. This stove was cool to the touch when so was done eating. I always carry a bandanna with me to wipe off the soot from the stove before I put it away. Cleaned up well in the sink with dish soap and scotchbrite pad. I always clean up my stoves. Some people do, some people don't. It's a preference.

    • @Shanecoffeyoutdoors
      @Shanecoffeyoutdoors  Před 8 lety

      If you are concerned about the ash build up heat performance I can tell you that I didn't have any issues.( first burn or course time will tell) if your interested in something similar in size like this The Firebox Nano has hole in the bottom burn pan to help get rid of the ash. I'll do a follow up video after a little while, as well as a comparison with the original Emberlit Stove.

      +Shane Coffey great thanks for the response Shane. will check out the other thing you mention. Have been using a whisperlite so far and even though it's really good at what it does it's far too fiddly and parts break and get lost and carrying the fuel is just extra weight. I love the idea of a campstove sized fire...simple, lightweight, no moving parts...love it.

    Dude! You just made the same point I've made hundreds of times. About a lighter. Mine was about ferro Rod. Primitive guys saying learn bowdrill dude ferro rods are not legit. If you offered a Native American a ferro Rod back in the day they'd be sure to keep it next to their heart. It's all about getting fire. Not how you get it. Survival situations aside, besides I always wear one around my neck on para that does not fit over my head easily enough to just fall off. If that is ripped off my neck, my biggest concern is not likely fire. Lol
