Grab some hot glue sticks. You can melt them over a fire to make strong repairs.

I've been Prepping since the late 70's and am retired. My team will be here on the farm when SHTF. I have several Lifestraws but I have more Sawyer Minis. I know how to make charcoal and have access to sand so we will be able to make water filters. We have a well with a hand pump in it, a creek on the farm, three ponds nearby and a lake a few miles away. I have various kinds of matches put away in water proof containers. Many Oil Lamps, Oil & wicks. Wood Stove and plenty of trees/wood. A good sized collection of old manual hand tools (gardening, wood working, mechanical, etc). Yes, I have holes in my preps. You can not prepare for every possibility that may occur. We have an extensive library. Too much to list. Keep Prepping my friends.
Great advice! You can also waterproof your matches inexpensively. Get some clear nail polish hardening coat ($tree ) coat one end of matches, stick inside pages of book to dry, when dry coat other end(I just dip them into bottle), dry within pages of book. Doing both ends keeps any water from traveling within the wood to dampen the interior. Fabulous job on your preps and God bless!

As I watch these survival videos, I'm always amazed at how seldom rocket stoves are mentioned! Having owned mine for almost twenty years and numerous camping trips, I wouldn't hesitate to make this my primary cooking system once TSHTF.

Cheap items you can never have enough of is tarps and rolls of poly. As someone that has the worst luck for being hit by tornadoes these are critical. Being able to temporarily fix a roof greatly reduces damage and allows one to stay in their home.
Could also be used for collecting water in a pinch.
Soaking beans and rice overnight reduces cooking times significantly
City of Odessa, TX turned off it's water yesterday due to a leak. Today they turned it back on and issued a boil notice, that's why you have to have water for emergencies cause you never know when this will happen!
City turned off our water as well during the winter storm 2021 in Memphis Tennessee. I had plenty drinking water but not enough to flush the toilets. Thank the Lord I had plenty of snow ( shoveled it in buckets and melted on top of the stove). I learned my lesson. I keep 10 5 gallon jugs of water in my pantry as well as 10 cases of bottled water. If I know in advance that a storm is coming then I also fill up the bathtub’s too.
For hygiene, try using a new garden pump sprayer as a bidet

The little plastic squirt bottles used for condiments (mustard/ketchup/oil) are good too and can be gotten at $tree.
I just prefer to scoot across the carpet like my did.
Funny thing….. watching this just now and found the book “how to survive the end of the world” in like-new condition in the local thrift store dumpster approximately 14 hours ago.

"Shoe Goo" repairs more than shoes.
Just bought a nice home in country, well built, high elevation etc, deep water well. Owner was military contractor out of country most of 2023. Coliform ended up in pipes, required multiple chlorinations to clean from pipes… just remember stagnant water turns toxic quite quickly.
Since it’s getting closer to summer and I never seen a prepper talks about it. I used a thing called reusable neck cooling ring last summer and purchased a lot this year. They cost from a few dollars to 20 depends on the brand and the variety. I tend to get the 28c version which will auto refreeze under 28c and feels like 15c on your neck. You can put it in the fridge, freezer or just water. No electricity required. Very good for the kids because you don’t need to worry about them handling a mini hand hold fan on the street. The one I’ve got last about 2hrs at around 30c then I grab another one. Got mind from Amazon Uk, not sure are they available in the US. (This is not an ad 😂)
Next time you see an Oriental market stop in as they have butane bottles for 1.25 each and yes in Texas.

I love the idea of books in the prep. I've been gardening for over 23 years, but I always go back to my garden books for answers when problem solving my food. Seeds is also a good thing to prep in the bug out bag there dirt cheap last for years and will provide food forever as long as you save seed.

I'm thinking that J.R. and I must be twins separated at the orphanage. My wife and I both have Broncos (she, the Baby Bronco...) and we keep a plastic tub in the back end with our EDC/Emergency stuff like tire plugs, air compressor, traffic cones, lanterns, small tool kit, etc. We also keep a sewing kit, duct tape, electrical tape, zip ties, paracord and all the other stuff mentioned in this video. Guess what?--over the years of carrying stuff like this, it is the zip ties, tape, superglue and paracord that gets requisitioned most often. On the waterproof matches, we just make our own out of strike-anywhere and candle wax. Learned the hard way once to coat the entire match stem as water CAN get soaked up by the wooden stem. On the old hurricane wick lamps, in a pinch they'll burn veggie oil and other types. In a pinch, as some oils soot more than others!
The Country Living book was one of the first prepper books we ever bought!

Shoe-Goo is great for repairing footwear, ripped backpacks, tarps, etc. I’ve used it to make a protective toe-covering on athletic shoes that had holes at the end of the shoe. It’s so strong you have to put Vaseline in the screw cap or it seals to the tube.
Also reminded me to add Vaseline to my preppers list! 👍

You can't stock pile super glue. I have had to throw many away as they dry up in time. I stored them in a pack at room temperature, and they all dried up. These were sealed and never used.
Try storing it in the fridge 🙂

Great video, thanks for sharing! Always good to remember the basics. First aid supplies do have a “best before” in the U.K. so always a good idea to rotate if possible. My mums “emergency first aid supplies” were essentially pouches of dust…so heads up preppers: check your 15 year old first aid kit over. 😅
We love those compressed towels. Great for toddlers sticky fingers…not just butt related 😂
Love garden sprayers for washing dishes/washing people too. Although not the same one that had chemicals of course!

I use dental floss for thread... It's very strong...
I love those string lights, I have several that are USB to pair with battery packs I have around the house. I can have one in the kitchen, one in the living room, one in the bathroom and cover most things. Each string light uses 3-4 watts so those battery packs go a long way. If I want something smaller a USB keyboard light stick only uses 1 watt, lights up a bathroom good enough to see what you're doing. Also can pair it with a smaller battery pack. I have a lot of batteries for my Dewalt Drill and Blower, so I bought some lighting as well that can utilize those batteries since I already have them. Works great.

Good list! While I have Trangia stoves and a 5 gallon container of alcohol fuel, I prefer the Esbit solid fuel stove for the get home bag. Fuel doesn’t leak or evaporate and you can use twigs and small branches for fuel as well. Folds up small with a few tabs inside.

About steel thermoses, is it dangerous to boil water in a double walled thermos? Air trapped between the inner and outer shell, heated, could explode with prolonged contact with heat. Most preppers endorse a single walled stainless steel container to boil water. Plus, a double wall is designed to keep cold beverages cold. The other nice feature of containing clean drinking water in a double wall thermos is to prevent contents inside from freezing if left in your vehicle over night in fridgid weather, will not freeze nor cause water sealed inside the chance to expand.
But i would pack a seperate single walled stainless steel thermos for boiling water. And a spring loaded gadget fishermen use for a different purpose to hug the sides of the inside throat of the single wall stainless steel thermos to use a carbiner and chain to hang bottle over a fire. And oven mittens to grab chain from hanger and move the hot thermos to a safe location to squeeze the spring loaded prongs to release the bottle from the prongs which suspended it over the fire.

Great videos! I’m in hot area- Aluminum foil, manual hand fan, atomizers and cooling towel, and a magnifying glass. I picked up some small rechargeable LED motion sensing lights at local hardware store and use my Jackery 100 to recharge. Slowly moving into the solar recharging territory.

Greetings from Tennessee. While they don't always have them in stock, if you have a Dollar tree check with them because they have the wound care kits like the one from Walmart and they're only $1.25 each. Since the boxes are a bit bulky, I put them in the bread loaf size clear totes they also sell for $1.25. You can get 5 or 6 in a tote.
