- Here is an extremely rare clip of a 16-year old Chris Everett from early 1971. Chrissy talks about how she developed her famous two-handed backhand shot. No ownership of this content is claimed.

America's sweetheart handling this interview like the pro she turned out to be. What a wonderful perspective she had even at 16 years old. "Chrissie" is still number one in our hearts and I love the role she has as a commentator for all the top Tennis Tournaments in the world.
China is destroying America
The backhand that launched millions. Seriously the most influential player of the last half of the 20th century, in terms of the influence on the way the sport is played.
This is so true. Chris was the ultimate technician for groundstrokes and baseline footwork and set the paradigm for baseline play.
Well, her AND Jimmy Conners don't forget !
18 Grand Slam singles titles. A legend.
This was the era that I had a big school boy crush on Chrissie. She was 16 and I was only 12. She and Evonne Goolagong were the two that made it alright to be girly and still be an achieved athlete (no disrespect to all the other greats at the time, like Margaret Court, who during her tennis career had children, and went back to winning slams).
I think that Chrissie has the most straightforward, simple strokes, that any beginner can learn. Then they can advance to more modern styles.
WoW ! She has the same facial expressions! I love Chris Evert!
I knew the answer to the trivia question because of Bud Collins. During telecasts, I heard him sometimes call her Christine Marie Evert. It was something he did with other players as well. James Scott Connors, John Patrick Mcenroe and Bjorn Rune Borg being other examples.
Billie Jean King ha ha
Loved Bud Collins. He was a character.
Stefanie Maria Graf
Bud Collins was a fantastic sports personality. Lively. Witty way with words. A bold dresser: wore some pretty wild colors & patterns for his era. Treat yourself sometime to watching clips of his tennis coverage. The memory of Bud Collins immediately makes me smile 🤗
So cute😍🤗
I adored Chris back in the day. Heck, I still do.
Virgins Wade said it first “ everyone copies the obvious her two handed backhand but what they can’t copy is her mind . No one comes close “ Chris hit her backhand in a unique way. She used her right hand the way one handed backhand players do and used her left hand just for support, along for the ride . The other players including recreational players push with their left hand in their two handed backhands . Chris pivoted her hips , rotated . This required Chris to be economical in movement to be in position . King said “ Chris is in position every time , perfect balance . The way to play her is to pull her out of position by overpowering her like Martina does “ . In 83 and 84 Martina won 13 matches until Chris improved her athleticism to get in position . Once she did Chris won 7 of the remains 19 matches they played . Chris was just 3 matches from leveling their rivalry 43-37 in Martina’s favor . Many who see this record think it’s 6 matches but if you take a win away and give it to Chris then it’s 38-42. So it’s 3 matches Chris was beaten by .Chris stated that st each at their best Martina’s best was better than her best .
She is adorable.
Wow! 1,000 views in only 10 days! Thanks everybody!!
was she practicing at holiday park in fort lauderdale? the fact that she won 18 majors with no serve is testament of pinpoint groundies and mental fortitude...no one hit the t's better than chrissy
So poised and mature at an early age!
Thanks for that one. Chris was always my favorite.
Mine, too!☺
She was gorgeous..
Best player ever!!! She was my idol growing up playing tennis. I tried to go pro but my parents didn't make enough money back then in the 1970s
Haha imagine blaming your parents.
@@nossenkanter listen ahole. Way back then in the 70s tennis coaches didn't work with you unless your parents had the money to pay them unlike the past 25-30 yrs. I was a teenager and that good. I had the scouts watching me in friggin high school because I was that good and yes I knew I was an excellent athlete and player. I played 3 hrs a day 7 days a week
And I didn't "blame" them you ass. I made a statement that they didn't make enough money to get me south to a pro coach. That's the truth. Take it or shove it up your butt
@@marymarseglia4536 No, if you're truly great at something you still would've made it. That's all I'm saying.
@@nossenkanter I did not take your comment to mean it that way. It was like you thought I was blaming my parents that I didn't make it as a pro. You needed money back then to take on pro coach in the south back in the mid to late 70s when I was a teenager
It is too bad because tennis and my dog were my life my passion back then
She's very high on the all-time list - that's for sure. Do you still play tennis?
Nice! Thank you!
Cutie
Yeah she’s not bad.
I never realized that back then she had a southern accent.
Chrissie was so cute!
Power, I should coco, how the game of tennis has changed. Crazy top spin.😭 Gone, and Power on 👍. And players so fit and most good at loads of other sports.
Gran belleza y suavidad juvenil de Chris
Christine Marie Evert
Amazing player and sn icon
@@PierPeterVinylSound tais-toi
She was really cute 😍
She had a slight Southern accent at that age, not as strong as our Tampa area accents (which are not even all that noticeable compared to others in the South), and it seems tinged with something else...perhaps from a parent with Northern roots?
I was thinking the same - the way she says the letter O is quite southern.
@@zeddeka she had a cute Southern Redneck accent.....I mean she is from the Deep South...
I think she ended up being somewhat successful after this and making a couple bucks 🙂 Good for her!
Are there still grass courts in Florida?
This was at Forest Hills.
Mostly Clay
I'm wondering if you have any notion of what channel did this reporting? i don't recognize the reporter!
Let me check to see if I can identify the reporter for you...
@@retromaven2159 thank you!! I’d be so grateful!!!
@@lizzymcglynnWW The correspondent is David Culhane. Hope that helps!
Laughing because like in this interview, she still to this day slips in too many "you know"s when she's broadcasting.
Who knew she would grow up to be one of the most woke women in tennis history?
How?
Woke? Go sit down
K@@ursulamullikin4723 WOKE.
Una mantequita 😉😉
Marie
She was so cute, only reason i watched women's tennis... and then came Anna Kournikova and she was even hotter
Was she the last of the feminine womans tennis players, an absolute pleasure to watch he dainty petite feminine on court behavior.
I am picking up a slight Southern accent.
"marie"
Bingo!!
More of a southern accent at a young age.
she was stuck up then
Chris was a terrific tennis 🎾 player, but when the butch lesbians came along she had no answer 😒😕
Which butch lesbians are you referring to? Of course determinedly heterosexual and blonde Steffi Graf dominated the 90s so did the tennis world run out of butch lesbians that decade?
@@gerardmackay8909 I'm sure that i don't have to spell it out, probably spell it incorrectly anyway 👍😉
@@sidneygreen9120 oh I know you were being subliminally disparaging about Martina I just wondered who the others were (plural used) 😀👍
@@gerardmackay8909 it's quite a big list 📃, but many stayed in the closet, so you will just have to use your imagination 😜👍
@@sidneygreen9120 cop out Sidney and in any case the only tennis player she had a negative record against (just) was Martina at 43-37. So all these spoilsport butch lesbians she had no answer for remain a figment of your imagination (by the way do ‘fem’ lesbians like Gigi Fernandez get a pass?)
Incorrect information on this video.. evert would not win the french open the next year (1972 at 17) and would not win it until 1974 soon before her 1st wimbledon victory as well and the first year she would be ranked number #1 and at age 19...
You misread the captions. It clearly states she won the French Open in 1974, one year after her HS graduation in 1973.
@@rrmarshall3239 he misreads a lot lol and he follows evert everywhere
RR Marshall shame Chrissy didn't compete in the French open for a few consecutive years in the 1970's...
@@Smudgeroon74 AND only played the Aussie 6 times....
You're telling me this is a dude? He looks like a woman.
This must have been before she killed a child growing inside her which she did not let the father have a say whether he/she would live or die.
Hi Jimmy! Nice to see you still trolling Chrissy videos. Hiding this account from Patty?
How enlightening and intelligent to share your thoughts about something that doesn't have anything to do with you.
@@mattliechty1269 Chris Evert shares her thoughts on social and political issues all the time, things that are nothing to do with her. Why. Trying to influence how people think. She's written books about her life, therefore if the public buy them, she puts herself out there, why shouldn't any one not have a point of view about her.
@@jackdoe4632 What business to you have commenting about a women's reproductive rights? None. You literally have zero information on the topic other than a page in some bitter old SOB's autobiography written just to get people to buy the book. Otherwise, he's a forgotten player.
What is that really true ? I know Billie Jean king did not had no idea Chris did she is a confirmed catholic isn’t she?
she was never very pretty , had a superior attitude too ..... never liked her . Evonne Goolagong was my favorite , real class !
