- Christiana Yvonne Cole was born in Hollywood, California, in August 1943, into a family of talented musicians and singers. Her father, Buddy Cole, was a renowned jazz pianist and musician, while her mother, Yvonne King, was a member of The King Sisters, a popular singing group. Growing up, Barbara was surrounded by artists and music, and it wasn't long before she found her own calling in the entertainment industry.

At the age of 19, Cole made her acting debut in "Hawaiian Eye," a groundbreaking TV show shot in Hawaii. She played the female lead, Sunny Day, and although the show only lasted for a year, Barbara was determined to pursue her acting dreams. In 1965, she started appearing in "The King Family Show," a musical variety series that aired on ABC. But it was two years later, in 1967, that Barbara's career took off. She received a call from one of the producers of "My Three Sons," who had been impressed by her acting skills and asked her to audition for the role of Katie, Robbie's wife (played by Don Grady). Cole and Grady's love wasn't the typical "love at first sight" scenario.
Grady was reportedly disappointed with the casting choice, believing that Cole didn't fit the physical description he had in mind for his on-screen love interest. He had preferred actresses like Ronne Troup, Peggy Lipton, or a tall, thin, long-haired girl, which Cole was not. Despite this initial disappointment, Cole and Grady soon grew close as they rehearsed together for telethons. And then two years later, Grady later confessed to Cole that he had considered quitting the show when he learned that she had been cast as his love interest, but now he couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. Their relationship had a lot of rollercoasters, and despite being in love with each other, they never got together like they wanted.

Agreed 👍💯
It
I was a teenager in the late 60s. Those were very turbulent painful times. I was always grateful for the tame storylines of that show, which were a break from the chaos in real life. Thank goodness for the wisdom of Fred McMurray to provide an escape from harsh reality. Tina Cole was a great addition to the show. Her character added balance.
The films last a lot longer than culture's ever-shifting changes. Here we are once again in the 2000s, with political unrest, racial division, fentanyl flooding through our WIDE OPEN SOUTHERN BORDER killing TENS OF MILLIONS of Americans, the economy is a raging DISASTER under the radical liberal Marxist-Communist Biden regime, the price of food & supplies, gasoline, natural gas (Do we heat or eat?), lawlessness, wars, and rumors of wars, the banks collapsing, the out-of-control and unpunished crime rate (except for radical, unjust and unlawful political purposes), etc., etc., etc. Everyone needs an escape from this horrible reality at some point. That is why so many have gone to GACtv, UPtv, and sometimes Hallmark Channel (when it's clean and family-friendly viewing), to be able to escape into a place where love, faith, family, friendship, and community, are united. A place where one can feel free from the ugliness of this world for a moment of time. Shows like 'My Three Sons' are classic television that will always be appreciated.
Our reactions to the storylines in these reruns just show that they have stood the test of time. Their lives were like ours. I don't know one single person who burned their draft card or bra!
Exactly, t.v. isn't about reflecting reality. We already have reality reflecting reality.
Thanks here 2024 👍
tell me more about those 60s times please
I always loved Tina Coles role in My Three Son's. Wished it could have continued for more years.
Wish we could bring back wholesome shows like this. Nothin better.
I'll never forget "My Three Sons." When I was in labor, I finally dozed off after 12 hours. When I awoke, Katie was on the TV, having her triplets. My heart nearly stopped! Then I realized it was not me!
I adored Tina Cole when I was watching this show as a young girl. She was gorgeous and is still.
I WAS BORN IN 1974...AND ONLY FOUND MY THREE SONS A FEW YEARS AGO IN 2020...IT QUICKLY BECAME ..AND STILL IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS...I LUVD ROBBIE AND KATIES RELATIONSHIP...AND HOW WELCOMING THE ENTIRE FAMILY WAS TO HER..THE GREAT ADVICE DAD GAVE THEM AS A YOUNG COUPLE...TIMES WERE VERY DIFFERENT BACK THEN..AND ALOT OF THINGS THAT WERE ACCEPTABLE DEFINITELY ARE NOT NOW...HOWEVER...I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE SHOWS THAT AGED PRETTY WELL...WHEN I WATCH ITS AN ESCAPE FROM THE CRAZINESS OF TODAYS WORLD
Fun stuff, thank you so much for sharing your life story. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
I watched the reruns when I was a kid. After the last episode, they went back to beginning. I couldn't believe Robbie was the middle child when it started and no Charlie. But it was still good.
There was definitely great chemistry between the two. I always thought they made a cute couple. I'm not surprised that there was a love interest between them. Thanks for sharing this interesting tidbit.🙂
You're very much welcome! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, which episode appealed to you the most?
@@FactsVerse I liked the episode with Sal Mineo, the one where Robbie wanted to go off on an adventure with him then changed his mind and realized his life with Katy and the boys was really what he wanted :)
I agree...and I think it's because they were both phenomenally talented actors. They were so committed to making their parts come alive. I loved that show growing up and love watching the reruns today. (And yes, her hair was great...)
No one could have played Katie any better than Tina Cole. Tina appeared in a few earlier My Three Sons episodes, always being cast as one of Robbie's girlfriends. She joined the cast in 1967, not 1964. Interestingly, their wedding was the only one actually filmed of any of the sons. Two years earlier, Mike and Sally are seen leaving the church after their wedding, in Tim Considine's last appearance on the show.
My Three Sons producers didn't waste any time getting Robbie and Katie married; it only took four episodes, from the time they first met, to the time they were married.
@@kevinmiller6380 A stark contrast to Mike and Sally, whose courtship lasted almost two seasons. Perhaps they didn't want to repeat this.
I loved Katie. She was so pretty and I loved her hair. She fit in perfectly on the show. I cannot believe I did not know they were an on and off again couple in real life.
Tina Cole is a total representation of beauty and talent.
Absolutely, and a very nice, gracious lady as well. I met her at a 'Hollywood Show' convention in April of '22. Still very pretty (and looking like herself) had no air of any kind of pretension. I just love her even more. She is as she looks, if that makes sense? (continued)
As far as the 'Sons' wishing the show would have reflected the tumultuous '60s (meaning 1967 and later) I can understand their feeling that way at the time. Fred MacMurray was right. Because they did NOT do that, the shows have the 'good feeling' to them they had from 1960 to 1972. Same thing is true with the CBS "rural" comedies. CBS executives were upset and embarrassed these shows didn't "reflect the times", so they were all gone between 1970-'72, and replaced with the likes of "All in the Family". The latter show was very much a product of its time, and I did watch/enjoy it back then. BUT hearing Archie and Mike arguing over Watergate (just to name one) isn't that enjoyable now, and is permanently dated and old fashioned. In these ugly, divisive, walking on eggshell times I'll take the timeless enjoyable escape of Douglas family of 'My 3 Sons' and 'Green Acres' anytime over that. Two CBS comedies from the '70s that seamlessly, gently and skillfully blended topical with timeless were 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' and 'The Bob Newhart Show'. And in a decade known for terrible clothes and hairstyles, both of these shows have held up extremely well in that regard too (especially Mary herself) in addition to the comedy otherwise, not aging much at all.
@@bobpierce115 Wow!! That's awesome the fact that you met her she's so amazing.
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Tina. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
@@FactsVerse There were a lot of episodes that appealed to me, especially with Tina Cole, but one that really sticks out to me was when she sang "Downtown " with the whole family including Uncle Charlie, were all playing instruments. Tina Cole is just so amazingly talented and so beautiful. I was pretty young and totally crushing over her big time. Then thanks to MeTV, I caught her on an episode of this show I didn't even know existed at that time "Hawaiian Eye", and wow!! there she was singing on stage. So beautiful so talented. Im so lucky to have witnessed this total iconic beautiful lady.
@@dynodave3808 She absolutely is, Dave. Your feelings are completely spot on. I hope you get to meet her if circumstances allow. I think she'll like you as much!
They did not make a mistake in keeping the story lines wholesome. We had so much controversy in our lives this show was the escape we needed.....
I thought Tina Cole was Tina Louise three sons v g iI lligans island personality disparaging dilemmas
I always loved Tina Cole, and I knew she was one of the King sisters. She is very talented and she aged beautifully!
We're very happy to know that you're a fan of Tina. What is your favorite episode of the show?
When they found out they were going to have the triplets.
Tina was a King Cousin; her mother, Yvonne, was a King Sister.
I love My Three Sons, and all of the old shows- Father Knows Best, Andy Griffith, Dick Van Dyke -just to name a few.Good old Days!
Tina Cole and Don Grady were perfect together, so sad that they always loved each other and never got together.
I dearly loved My Three Sons. And I adored Tina. I was young girl and wanted to grow up and look and be like her. She was a beautiful singer. I do remember the King Family and there performances.
Me too!!!
My Three Sons is one of my ABSOLUTELY FAVORITE SHOWS.
I loved My Three Sons and watched every one of The King Family Specials!!
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
I loved these two and this show!!! God bless you, Tina Cole!

We Need More Shows like this 💕💙
My three sons was one of my favorite family programs and I loved Don Grady and Tina
Cole as Robbie and Katie Douglas they made the characters come alive in the 70s it was two bad that they didn’t keep it on the Air they could have recast Don Grady when he passes away from Cancer it could’ve been almost like a brand new show
We;re very happy to know that you're a fan of the show. If we may ask, what is our all-time favorite episode?
Loved My Three Sons. Some of my earliest memories are me sitting on the floor at my grandparent's house watching it on tv. Tina Cole was my favorite character. I really don't remember Mike, Sally (Meredith MacRae) and Bub, so Robbie and Katy were the older kids in the family. I was surprised that Don Grady wanted Ronnie Troope, who later became Chip's wife, to be Katy. As little as you hear about the other living cast members, I haven't heard anything about Ronnie Troope. I'm assuming that she's still alive.
Tina Cole good actor
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
@@FactsVerse Good question that I can't really answer. Always loved the way Uncle Charlie doted over Little Charlie.
Always looked forward to watching My Three Sons with my family each week. Loved Tina Cole!
Tina Cole is one of the most genuine and gorgeous women to be on tv. What was there not to like, and she could sing too, one beautiful, classy lady .
So true, we're moved by your message for Tina. Which episode of My Three Sons appealed to you the most?
I loved the story line, characters and everything about that show. Tina Cole played the role of Katie to a tee and she was truly magnificent.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Loved My Three Sons and watching Tina in the King Family holiday specials.
I got to meet Don Grady in the mid 90’s (in SLC, where they were visiting good friends). Then, my husband & I visited his home in CA to pick up a musical instrument we purchased from him. He was warm and gracious. Such awesome people. Beautiful family.
Loved "My Three Sons"-Tina Cole was a great addition to the cast.
Back in 1968 Don Grady came to our high school in Independence, MO. It was fun seeing and meeting him.
while i hear that even on other shows the cast members were away from reality of the world....and yea they were a tad... but the reason they became so beloved is they were a way of escaping a lot of the crap the real world offered.
we got to see parental leadership w/love and siblings who could work things out. i'd rather watch these shows where i didn't have to cover my ears or leave the room. if we want crap, we can turn the news programs.
it was a chance to escape... and for many got to have their little love crushes and perhaps in their own world try and find a love interest similar to the characters they so enjoyed. so enjoyed these "easy" shows.
Except that there was no mother, so they were raised by first Bub & then Uncle Charlie. Katie brought a female sensitivity to the show, which made it better. But by the time Steve remarries, I didn't like the choice of Beverly Garland & Dawn Lyn as Dodie. The show had gone through its natural run, but it made the common TV mistake of prolonging it by bringing a younger child for (by this time grandfather Steve to raise) & the cast changes didn't fit properly.
Love that reunion picture which includes Mike and Sally (Tim Considine and Meredith McCrae) considering that after they got married the show acted like they never existed
It was a gentle space for people to land away from the tumultuous environment of the '60's and should not criticized for doing so. Music, movies, television are supposed to be escapes for people to give them a place to escape to.
Brings back memories, watched this show my entire childhood
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
The picture at 5:24 from Hawaiian Eye shows Connie Stevens--not Tina Cole. Also, Hawaiian Eye lasted four years (1959-1963): in the fourth year, Cole played Sunny Day temporarily when Stevens left the show over a contract depute.
I loved this girl and i loved the show. There was a whole other son that just disappeared. He was the first and oldest son, and when he got married on the show, he just moved away and never came home and was never mentioned again. The little boy who was Chips friend became the third son and thus forever more was viewed as a real son. I miss that type of show. It may be old fashioned and dumb to some but I long for the pure days. I've lived a lifetime of cultural change and am sick of it. I'm sick of woke. I really don't even watch network tv anymore because the shows are stupid. Give me My Three Sons.
There was a son older than Ritchie on Happy Days who also disappeared too.
They should have had a spin off with these two. They were a perfect TV Couple
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
Tina Cole is a gorgeous goddess. She improved the shows quality greatly.
How rediculos that Rob left the series. I especially loved watching her from the back; how that beautiful thing moved!
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What is your most memorable episode of the show?
I record it every weekday! My fav😊
I use to love to watch the King family on tv too. So talented was this family
I loved this show so much, I still watch reruns
It was a nice show for a little girl to watch while she had her tv dinner on a TV tray, that was not an every night thing but i remember it once
My favorite episode was the one where Katie was going crazy being surrounded by men, so Uncle Charlie made an elegant tea party and she invited all her friends.
My mom's favorite episode was the one where the Douglases went to Scotland. My mom is Clan Douglas, but she had never seen the clan tartan. Even though we only had a black-and-white television, we were all glued to our little set, trying to get a good look at those kilts!
Chips club, The girls fix her tea party..
Loved the Kings Sisters. Loved all these shows. Born in the 50’s
I never saw that reunion show would of loved to seen it, I loved watching my 3 Sons in from the early episodes to the current ones in the 70s when, I was growing up! I always had wondered what had happened to Kim Coles because, I never heard much about her through the yrs! I always thought those 2 had some the best on screen Chemistry! I very much enjoyed this one, thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing!
Tina Cole, not Kim Coles, who was on "The Facts of Life."
Despite the unrealistic demeanor of MTS, it was a good show that many remember.
It both hurt and helped the show to having been so insular.
I watched My Three Sons as a kid and thought she was beautiful. I can recall a drastic hair change she made from one season to the other, but it made her even more stunning. I thought of typical all American beautiful blonds of the era she was one of the most attractive. Sorry to go on about her looks but honestly that's what I really liked about her the most all those years ago.
I didn't know the two of them had an offscreen relationship, but that often happens in the industry. Looks like they were star-crossed, never quite on the same page in their lives despite their strong feelings for each other. It must have been difficult for her to hear him say he initially didn't want her on the show, but looks like they got past that.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?

Peggy Lipton havent heard that name in a while She was a Beauty ❤❤

Loved this TV show. I watched it so often as a kid. Loved the cast. Great cast. Fred was an amazing actor. He was great too in the great Billy Wilder film, The Apartment.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
I really liked this show as a kid😊
Always liked Tina Cole - always found her to be sweet, witty, and lovely. She always was poised and classy and I bet still is!
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Tina. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
I saw Tina Cole in person when i was 15 years old when my parents and me went to Las Vegas in June of 1969. At that time we were in this restaurant in the hotel which she was sitting in the table right in front of me. She was 26 years old at that time and today she is 79, and still looks very good for her age today.
Tina, when she was a little girl became a Ballerina. That inspired her mother to write a book and make a record called Tina The Ballerina. I remember sitting in my cousin whose name is Tina's bedroom and listening to the record. I had no idea that Tina's mother made that recording to entertain children.
I realize this was about the relationship between Tina and Don but it would have been nice to have mention of the original cast for the show including William Frawley, Tim Considine, and Meredith McRae
Great show. Loved it when l was a kid.
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
We loved this show. Reminds me so much of my dad.
My sister and I were young, but we still thought the guys were cute.

I believe the first couple on TV to share a bed was Samantha and Darren on "Bewitched" in 1964.
This is important?
@@samadams6487 Well, I guess you didn't listen to the video. Tina Cole said at 5:05 that she thought she and Don Grady were the first couple on TV who shared a bed.
@@fool4singing I heard every bit of it I'm just saying it wasn't particularly important information
Important or not, it was actually Mike & Carol Brady who were the first tv characters shown on air sharing a bed.
@@melindaburris5138 "Bewitched" premiered in 1964 and showed Samantha and Darren sharing a bed in the first season. "Brady Bunch" didn't hit the air until 1969.
Their complaints are exactly why so many people love the show even in the 2020s
She was so pretty! A classic 1960s beauty.

Happy birthday and many more! To the second woman to an all male show, you did a great job!❤😅😂🎉
I used to watch The King family when I was a child I just love Tina Cole I named my second child r Katie thanks for the name Tina
Awful how Grady’s older brother on the show just left, when he was a major character
I watched tv to get away from what was going on in the world, I needed that break. Didn’t mean I didn’t know what was going on.
Got it, thanks for sharing. What other types of video would you like to see?
AGREED...WE HAVE TO HAVE AN ESCAPE SOMETIME...IF ONLY THROUGH A TV SHOW...WE DEFINITELY NEVER FORGET WHATS GOING ON IN THE WORLD😊
I watched all the episode’s including Leave it to Beaver. Tina was beautiful on the show.😅
Tina and Don Grady were the best I enjoyed watching them you could feel the love 💖
Our favorites too, you've got fine taste! Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
She was so pretty
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great day!
I loved them.
Tina played Katie better than any other female star would have. Tina is a doll and a half.❤❤
I also had a favorite piece of another episode, but am not certain if I remember it correctly. (Mike?) wanted to propose to Katie, but wasn't sure enough to take the plunge. He asked his dad how he had felt sure enough to propose to his mom. His dad then recounted an experience where he had looked down a hallway (or maybe across a room?) and seen his future wife with light behind her. Instead of seeing her in her street clothes, she was wearing a full wedding dress and veil. He took it as more than a subtle hint and proposed.
Interesting that this kind of event is not uncommon among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (of which I am one). Whenever I share this story with my friends, they always say that they don't recall it and that it sounds like something from our church! I'm sure that Don Grady was a lovely person; however, personally, I would rather marry someone who receives divine inspiration on his marriage choice than a person who "can't go for organized religion" and misses the boat.
It's Robbie, and I remember that too, where Robbie kept picturing Katie as bride.
I have no idea they really cared for each other in real life but you could see it on screen for sure... as a kid watching it I thought it was just great acting!

I read somewhere, and this is from someone in the industry, that her ex husband was so upset/jealous about the relationship that he threatened to ruin both their careers and the King family if they married. I believe it.

Thanks for the birthday greeting! Be safe and enjoy the rest of your evening 💗
Grate l liked the show
I loved the Rob and Katie characters.
Our favorites too, you've got taste! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
McMurray was correct
"Tall, thin, long haired girl", seriously? Tina was nearly the same height as Grady, so a taller girl would have made him appear short. And Tina had a darling figure, petite and proportioned perfectly. I just don't get it that he was opposed to her being cast in the beginning because she was perfect.
7:17 - "The Four King Cousins" 😅😅😅😅 Uh, somebody should have re-thought that name. 🤣
I love Katie from the moment I started to watch the show which is before her time arrival but I fell in love with her strong sensitive wonderful loving ways to which way is strong woman by a gentle and although it is really sad and really sad that they were not both at the same place at the same time in life pursuing the same thing to be together because they really had chemistry and that’s when I first learned about chemistry on screen at a young very young age however the Lord knows what is going on he was in control two people that do not have the same beliefs is really hard I’ll evenly yoked
Hawaiian Eye ran for four seasons and was never filmed in Hawaii, but on WB backlot in Burbank, CA.
Wrong-The external shots were filmed in Hawaii.
Wow didn't know this was on 12 years
Glad to know that you discovered something new about My Three Sons. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
I really wish they had stayed together especially since they loved 🥰 each other so much
Why did your script start calling Tina 'Barbara'?
Based upon the information presented in this video, Grady had three wives at the time of his death, or ,was married three times, I'll say. The narrator indicated he had been married twice, at the time of his death.
I wonder why the My Three Sons series is never seen on any of the 60s sitcom stations such as MeTV and TV Land.
Was a Great Show💙💙
I believe that they live rich other, but they have two different lifestyles, but their love will always be the same for each other and now she’s blessed with grand children and great grandchildren and she loves the Lord. That’s all important that is very good for both of them what they do with their lives.
Hell! Me too! Think he was on my team tho. 😊
As a side note, Hawaiian Eye (not to be confused with Hawaii 5-0) was not shot in Hawaii, but at the Warner Brothers lot in L.A. It lasted several years, not just one.
When Tina joined the cast, they actually shot all the external scenes in Hawaii and then they flew back to shoot most internal scenes at the studio.
I think it's funny that so many shows claim to be the first to show a married couple in a single bed. Most shows from the 50'S and early 60's did show the couples in twin beds with the notable exception of Bewitched. When Darrin and Samantha married in 1964 their bedroom showed a full or queen sized bed with the couple both in it! 😊 I watched My Three Sons growing up and thought Tina Cole's Katie was a good match for Robbie.
Stop the blur.
