- Justin Northwest (TX) freshman Cooper Lutkenhaus reset his own U.S. high school freshman class record in the boys 800 at the 2024 RunningLane Track Championships, clocking 1:49.12 for the win.
That bested the star freshman's previous best and class record of 1:49.84 that he set weeks earlier in his win at the UIL 5A State Championships.

man as a freshman I ran 2:49 what is this 😭
I was fourteen when I was a freshman. He's sixteen.
He's fast. But, sixteen.

Hey, you just need a minute head start!
@@arniekappeler8855most freshman are 15 during track season and he is no different. If you are August 2008-July 2009 you are a freshman and he is born December 2008. Only freshman not 15 are June-July 2009 birthdays which is one month
😂😂🤣
Star in the making. Best of luck to this guy and his progression.
He went out a little hard but held on. That extra strength will come soon enough as he continues to mature. If he doesn't get injured and progresses at even a modest rate, he'll break the national HS 800m record by the time he's a junior.
Stud with amazing form. This kid could be Big Time and the 800 for USA is wide open!
"lets go to lutkenhaus texas, me willie and the boys"
Luckenbach but I'm sure you know that and it's a nice play on words 🙂I've been to Lukenbach Texas back in the 90's on a cycling trip. Great rides out in the hill country !
MileSplit, This made me laugh so hard, thanks for sharing!
erm what the bot
Micheal Granville ran 1:47 at 16 and I think obea Moore ran 1:49 at 15, Quincy Wilson ran 1:51 this year as part of his training lol Thsts still phenomenal, I just named high school legends, who knows what this kid can do
Obea Moore was 3rd (1;49.16) at Arcadia on April 9, 1995 behind winner Michael Granville. Obea was 16y90d (Jan 10, 1979)
The next new prospect--if they don't move him up.
Is this the offspring of the former UNT brute George? Hard to tell, given George had zero closing speed. Just saying 😌
Robbie G. ⚜️
Your not wrong. He said the same thing🤣
@@CooperLutkenhaus besides talent, you obviously have a sense of humor; you and your dad. Good luck young man, I'll be watching.
What a small world! I will always remember your Pop. Although our time was brief at UNT; he left a good impression with me. I can tell you both have a similar drive to be special at your craft. I've been in the run game for a bit, and you're worth watching. Just keep it fun, and while your Pop played every sport in HS; I think it would be wise to focus on that genetic lottery you won with running. That gear change is absolutely sick! 😮 Best of luck, Cooper, and know you have a fan in Colorado. 💯 @CooperLutkenhaus
i'm so cooked and i'm a junior
Real
1.49 wins state in lots of places. 16 or not
He's very fast, but they probably shouldn't play up his being a freshman. He's sixteen.

@@CooperLutkenhaus Phenomenal run!
@@CooperLutkenhaus bros lurking in the replies💀
@@CooperLutkenhaus kudos young man.
Cooper, get good coaching, read/learn the sport, don't overtrain, be patient and maintain some sense of modesty and humility. You're a gifted athlete, I wish you the best.
