It’s a metaphor for the lousy unwanted guest that always ruin everything and yet the protagonist feel sorry for choosing his girlfriend over his so called friend or a.k.a. the elephant in the room

spicy blue91 when I saw this title I thought about that metaphor cos I have the poem at my school until the fridge fucking scene and I just totally forgot about it
True but then again relationships aren't promised. They are fickle at best and require constant energy.
Your friend who has been there forever and helped you through dark places, and then you put them out for a relationship that could fail within a month. That's a hard decision. You could be making the worst mistake ever and end up with no one.
The elephant was the boyfriends tendency to act childish and playful, but she said she would only stay with him if he changed himself, so he did. That's why at the end he wasn't all smiles anymore. His playful spirit had left.
Em Wiebe that's a terrible lesson. If anyone asked me to change myself for them, that's a huge red flag. She's practically begging to just be dumped before the end of the sentence. People if anyone demands you change to suit their desires, leave them. They are NEVER worth it. There are literally too many humans on Earth for you to cater to one and lose yourself. They will never ever in any universe be able to live up to that. Leave them on that exact day, hell just turn and walk away during the very sentence and never call or speak to them ever again. You will be doing yourself a favor in the long run.
i’m not gonna lie, i wasn’t expecting a literal elephant. i laughed way too hard at his initial sit-up at the beginning, and the girl’s pupils getting smaller when she sees him in the mirror

“The Elephant in the room” is a saying for when there is an obvious or awkward problem or risk but nobody wants to discuss it, instead everyone ignores it but it really needs to be addressed.
(Literal interpretation of the saying- think about a very large animal sitting in your front room and everyone can see it but people are just awkwardly ignoring it & playing ignorant instead, it’s clearly taking up too much space and its creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. It’s becoming more of a nuisance & hindrance & eventually it’s going to need to be discussed & hopefully rectified so things can go back to normal. The topic will come up “we need to talk about this elephant in the room”)
The elephant in this case is the mans best friend. The 2 guys live together and one gets in a relationship and moves his partner in, she feels like she’s a 3rd wheel in this ‘bromance’ and wants the friend to move out (3’s a crowd) but her boyfriend is happy to ignore the issue as not to offend his friend. She unhappily puts up with it until she physically can’t anymore. At this point the awkward ‘elephant in the room’ topic comes up & the boyfriend knows enough is enough & he has to address it or there will be consequences (she leaves him & the relationship is over) Once the topic is spoken about the ‘problem’ sorts itself out (by Phil the friend/elephant moving out)
The animation is very clever, making the symbolism literal by physically making the man (the real problem) appear as the elephant (the symbolic problem)
An elephant in a room is something awkward that everyone knows about, but doesn't speak of it, lime how it was awkward when the elephant was standing there when they we're at the table, and as time goes on it's harder to ignore it and that was why he got bigger because the tension was getting bigger

I just scrolled through a bunch of the comments, & had fun considering different perspectives.
I'll add my two cents: Oftentimes, in relationships, there is that huge hidden issue/problem that never gets discussed & just grows bigger & more destructive as it is ignored -- this can be the proverbial "elephant in the room". I thought these filmmakers did a great job of what my college English professor drilled into us: "Show, don't tell". They kept the symbolism embedded in their art & resisted the temptation to EXPLAIN. I really enjoyed this humorous take on how keeping our demons in the dark can create havoc. Also, I envision a sequel in which our elephant friend comes back for a visit. Can't you just see it?

To me reading "conversate" seemed pretty strange. I mean conversing in different languages is pretty great, but yeah in beginning the elephant could clearly understand what they were talking about

I dont think she did that because she was happy.. although, she was happy and playing with the doll at the end. Im a bit confused tbh. I guess maybe she was sad about ripping the dolls head off, and once the fridge was gone she could properly realise that dealing with her anger with aggression was a bad way to express herself.

The elephant relates child parents bringing to the world trying to make him grow. They try a lot and hard and the much we try we cant appreciate their efforts :) love you mom and dad. The end is when the child is young enough that enters the second life which he marries buys a new house and leaves the parent's house while parents have memories in the house, the house ruined. Means their efforts finally made him understand about life and enters the second life, continuing their generation
