  • @monsoonami
    @monsoonami  Před 12 lety

    Yeah, apparently layer modes in a layer group will only affect other layers in that same group. That can be frustrating if you're expecting it to behave differently, but it can also be useful because if you want a layer mode to only affect certain layers, then you can put them in a group.

  • @SaintNaim

    Cool tutorial, i got one tip for you...............to undo the selection go to select and select none.

  • @monsoonami
    @monsoonami  Před 11 lety

    That's just the layer's "boundary." It's not actually part of the image; rather, it's just there to let you know where that layer ends. It "goes away" when you select a different layer, but if it's really bugging you, then you can hide it (as I have done) via View > Show Layer Boundary (or something like that -- I don't have gimp open right now).

  • @interfacedesignswithgimp8229

    Thank u for this tutorial. It's awesome. I didn't know that I could do 3D Spherical text effect. So I learned something new.

  • @monsoonami
    @monsoonami  Před 12 lety

    Unfortunately, you can't change the orientation after using the Map Object filter. However you could duplicate your square color layer with the letter on it before running the Map Object filter. That way you would always have an extra copy there, and you could always go back and run the filter again with different settings. Really, the better solution would be to use a 3D graphics program (like Blender) instead, since GIMP isn't made for editing 3D objects.

    Great tutorial......it'd be great if you could make a video with colourful, shiny and glossy spheres on a 3D black background with reflections of the spheres on it......don't have to be spheres if you know what i mean.....i havent' seen anyone doing such a video with gimp so if you could please. Thanx for this video though and keep up the good work :) Well done and looking forward to watching your new video.

    After duplicating the layer group, when we tried to move it, only the sphere moved but the shadow did not move. To make all the three duplicate layers move together as shown in video we had to click ON the chains (chain icons next to the eye icon) of all of them first. However in the video this is not seen (10:42 to 10:49). What is the mistake we are making ?

  • @monsoonami
    @monsoonami  Před 11 lety

    Are your "marching ants" really marching/moving? If not, then that's just your layer boundary, which isn't actually part of the image, but is just there to indicate the edge of the layer. You may hide it, as I've done, by going to View > Show Layer Boundary, though that shouldn't affect your ability to follow the tutorial. Do you mean that the gradient doesn't show up at all or that it doesn't stay inside the ellipse?

  • @monsoonami
    @monsoonami  Před 12 lety

    What colors are you using on the different layers? For example, if you paint with white and set it to Burn, nothing will happen (also if you paint with black and set it to Dodge). Are you setting the layer's Mode to Burn or the paintbrush tool's Mode? I can't really think what would cause some of the layer modes to work while others don't. It must be something particular to the image you're working on.

    Sure: just use the map object filter as shown in this video, but apply it to a layer with a photo/image on it instead of a layer with text on it. You will want to crop the photo to be a square first.
