Stephen has such a unique tone that it will never be replaced.
He really makes the band what it is...I hate to say it like that. BUt Stepehen's voice puts the music wayyyyy over the top its not the same without him. THis song is good dont get me wrong, but not the same
Stephen is what makes the band unique , with Matty it's very generic and nothing special

I opened for Anberlin back in 2012 at the Utah State University graduation party shindig. It was rad. These dudes always put out killer music.

Anberlin without Stephen Christian is like Blink182 without Tom Delonge. Matty is a great lead vocalist though, he brings back the youthful vibe I miss from the older Anberlin albums. Def gonna enjoy the new era 😎 #VEGA
Vega is confirmed to be 2 songs with Matty (this being one), and the EP's Silverline & Convinced being the rest. It'll be fun to listen to it all as one album though. There's also a live recording of them playing the only unreleased song "Seven" on youtube too
Stephen is one of those singers with such an unique voice and style, it's impossible to replace him. Wishing the band all the best in this new era!

On the one hand, yes, Stephen Christian has an incredibly unique voice and no one is gonna replicate it. Short of getting Clayton Stroop (from Thriving Ivory and City Wolf) or Charlie Finn (from Secret & Whisper) it's not even possible to get close.
That said, I can't blame the band for wanting to continue to make music, and even though the vocals are vastly different, the instrumentation is absolutely still very much Anberlin. I too hope Stephen comes back to us one day, but Anberlin has always had my back. I'm happy to have theirs and support them, even if it feels different.
This is exactly how I feel. It’s not the exact same, but it is still good!

THANK YOU! I remember hearing this live several months ago on one of their live streams and there was so much hate in the chat. This still sounds like Anberlin from an instrumental level, its just the vocals that are completely different. I'm a big fan of Memphis May Fire so I don't mind Matty filling the void that Stephen left.
Just in case you didn’t know, Charlie Finn has a solo project called Skateboard Dinosaur! definitely brings back that old vibe.

@@lmojol9673 ok so out of 12 songs on Vega 10 of them are with Stephen still and 2 are with Matty. It’s either this or no Anberlin at all. I’m grateful they want to keep giving us anything at all. And I disagree, there is way more to Anberlin than just Stephan.
@@y84k except there isn't "no Anberlin at all." They have an amazing catalog of music to listen to, which I will be and have been since I was a child. That's ok if you like it. I'm just saying for myself (and I know others think the same), it doesn't feel like Anberlin anymore with Matty singing.

Atleast Stephen did a cameo on the video.hehe. Also love Matty's solo praise and worship songs but he he really sounded with slightly heavy rock vocals with this song.

Been a fan of Anberlin for a time now, probably since Never take friendship personal.
I have to admit. When I heard Matty was going to stand in for Stephen, I was sceptical. I love MMF, especially their newer stuff, but he doesn't sound anything like Stephen. Then I heard this song and it didn't really click at first. Now probably 50 listenings later and I cant get it out of my head, its really good!
And then I heard a live clip from the other song Seven, and it sounds huge and somewhat refreshing. Really excited for that one to be released!
Yes, sometimes It doesn't sound like Anberlin did before. But in my opinion, it doesn't have to. Bands evolve and go through different phases all the time. As long as their music is good, I'm totally fine with that.

@@arllanfranklin3067the official statement is he I taking an indefinite hiatus. I mean these guys had called it quits in 2014 as a band before getting back together again in 2019ish, so it isn’t too surprising
I’m trying hard to enjoy it, but it’s not the Anberlin we know and love. Not that this is bad, it’s just not the same
With that being said, I can’t wait for Stephen to release new solo work.
