My Fault? His Handmade Wallet Fell Apart
When you're offering a lifetime warranty on your handmade leather work, you need to make sure you're around long enough to honor it! I take this wallet that I made in for repair close to 10 years after it was made. Because of the way it's made, the repair is straight forward a little glue, a restitch, condition, and it's good to go! This piece has a Shell Cordovan exterior, which means it will be in use for many, many more decades - it's just my responsibility to make sure the construction method is such that it can be repaired along the way!
Such an amazing and eloquent statement -- "I'm a Maker, not a manufacturer". (i'm going to use that as my new disclaimer) A lot of folks have become "consumers" of leather products rather than understanding the true value of the piece. cheers
This felt like watching an episode of the Joy of Painting in the very best of ways. Thanks!
I couldn't say it better! Hey Bob, we need some lovely little trees over here! ;)
The beauty of this video, is that its coming from the heart.
I am not a native english speaker and I felt it.
I felt the time passing, nostalgia, happiness and sadness. Simply beautiful.
My grandfather was doing this job, I have one of his old handmade wallets, it needs some fixing, maybe it is time to take care of it.
Thank you for sharing 🙂
I can’t think of a single Corter video I’ve disliked, but this one was particularly comforting. On multiple levels. Thanks, Eric.
I have a handmade wallet from Scott Willis in Utah (Don't Mourn, Organise!) and I know what you mean about becoming attached to pieces you have made. I bought my first wallet from Scott in around 2014 but had it stolen when we were moving house. Losing the cards and small amount of cash was just an inconvenience but both Scott and I were devastated at the loss of the wallet. Despite his waiting list, Scott bumped me to the head of the queue and made me an identical replacement. It is Horween too and shows the marks of its life... the scratches from keys in the pocket, fingernail marks where I tug a card out on one side much more than the other. It gets the very occasional Saphir Renovateur and I love it!
The tone and feel was this video was beautiful ! Thanks for sharing.
I really love the style and tone of this video with the voice over! All really well said. Thanks for all you share, I've learned so much about this craft from you over the years. 😊
Thanks! Trying something new, it felt really good to make so I'm sure there will be more!
Nice to see a quality wallet stand the test of time. Great work!
I have learned a lot from u I have finally got my stitching from 1/2hr to 10 mins or less by just watching you.watched a lot of others that hand stitch and by hands down u r the best great teacher.every thing I make I hand stitch by learning from u .keep on teaching thank u
Here's the proof of the beauty and durability of leather - and of your work, Eric - you are indeed a maker!
Kudos to you for making lasting goods and not consumable items. This video was so nice.
I loved this so much. Found it very comforting as well as informative. Thank you ❤
Great video. Thank you for sharing it.
Service over and above. The wallet owner is a lucky guy to have such an extensive refurb.
Thx Eric. You've taught me so much. Great vid. Love your honesty and realness.
this was a great video! Thank you!
Beautifully done Eric ❤
Looks great! I'm just getting into working with shell and I hope they age that nicely.
Love the new format
This video was such a pleasure to watch. I’m at a place in life where the waxing poetic resonated with me for sure. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Thanks for sharing.
Superb just shows quality lasts for ever
This is awesome! I love doing pocket checks to my family to see how things are aging. Great video!
Good work.
Good rework.
Excellent video, Eric. I always enjoy the project videos, but this was really cool. Strong sentiment. Strong quality. I also loved the "I'm a maker" line. Perfectly said.
Hey man, I just got to say thank you for making great, informative, and entertaining videos. I got pretty much all of my information from you, and now I sell some of my goods. I’m also teaching a leatherwork badge to a scout troop because of the info I got from you. Thank you.
Great vid mate ,love your work
Quite a lovely story! ❤
I like the video a lot, and I really appreciate what sounds like a cat purring in the background
One of my favorite videos of yours!
As a maker of many things, when something comes back for some TLC and you can see how much it has been used and cared for, its sometimes a little overwhelming to see how much something you made can mean to someone and no matter how old I get that never changes
The gratification of having such a wonderful problem to solve. When crafters and customers have coinciding desires. 😉👍
Thank you! I ALWAYS learn something from you. Thanks for sharing.
Cowbell Leather Co
Inspiring!
Is that a cat purring in the background?
Lovely video.
Thanks. Lovely video - I really enjoyed it. Almost didn't watch it because of the title (I know you're just trying to keep up with the algorithm). But so glad I did.
It‘s the best commendation (i hope, ist the correct word) a maker can get -
and yes, maker, not manufacturer, because every item has it own soul! 👍🏻😉
I miss your videos of making things. I understand that since you are alone, making a video of the entire process of creating a wallet or a small handbag is much more difficult.I just wanted to ask for more making videos :)
Hi Eric, grand maintenance video.
If you were going to make a wallet for yourself today. What leather would you use and which pattern? I think it is time I lightened the load in my wallet and finally made one.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers...Freddie
I currently carry a tooled double envelope wallet made for me out of natural veg, I don't usually carry wallets I make myself anymore! I'm very fortunate that other people will make my designs and send me one, and it feels like a huge honor to carry them :)
@@Corter TA!
Looks like different thread from what originally. Am I correct?
The outside shell's beautiful, of course. But the INSIDE!! That patina!! Buying a new wallet means starting from square one. I can see why he'd rather keep that one and have it repaired!
This video would have been funny had there been a pronounced circle indentation in one of the pockets… 😂
I don't get it, by the time you have it opened apart, you could have cut new leather pieces, plus the postage, why not just make a new one?
if you have to ask, you will never know
A wonderful video and product (as always) but why the provocative clickbait title? Others with cheap content have justification to resort to those tricks, TMHO you don't need them..
hmm. The wallet didn't really fall apart now did it. Shows how well its made, but a click baitey title
wax poetic 🤣 as you rub mink oil into the leather...
I hate the thought of changing my wallet 🤬
here, how to fix a torn wallet, and what about when a person feels shabby and worn out, as tired as a horse...eh.Vitamins and minerals TBH did not do much of a help. Greeting from EU...
You talk some shite 😂😂😂
