Everyone gangsta until the "PLIN PLIN PLON" start playing.
ah yes.. one of the most memorable moments from dark souls 3 to me. just three piano notes and everything just changed forever
@Ainox it translated to white, which makes sense for his White-keys-only theme.
Best comment ever
@@JohnDarksoul69 I'd say the most memorable moment in the series. For long term lovers of DS this was such a special moment. I teared up so hard.
@@blackzero1956 lol
The transition from the epic boss fight music to Gwynn’s theme is done so well gives me goosebumps every time
Talk about homage to the og eh? It’s top tier
exatamente...
I know nothing, who is Gwynn and why is the plin plon special?
@@SuperDarkVeganHe's the final boss of the first game, the guy who started it all. The world is a mess because of him, but little it matters since by the point you fight him he's gone hollow, just a walking corpse that can barely show his original strength.
In DS3, Soul of Cinder is a monster made out of every being who has linked the flame just like Gwyn, that's why it has a vast amount of moves and fighting styles. When you get him to 2nd phase it's Gwyn's essence that takes control, and the music reflects that by using his "plin plin plon" music from the first game.
@@zalabit927 mannn that seems so much fun to experience the first time,I’ve just finished elden ring and am thinking about which souls game to play next
I always thought the Flame lashes out against you because it's scared of what you will do. And when all else has failed, it calls upon its first champion for a last stand.
You may be right, it's duty-bound to protect the flame, because it's unknown whether Ashen One will rekindle or extinguish it. Or it's a final test to be worthy of linking the flame.
@@hydroshock1853 In this case it's the flame summoning the soul of ALL the past Lords of Cinder to fight desperately against whoever would attempt to link it again. The flame wanted to fade, it needed to. Keeping the flame alive is what made darkness fester in the hearts of men. This isn't just Gwyn we're fighting -- its also us from DS1, DS2 and every other person that has sacrificed their soul for the flame. The flame linking ending shows that there was nothing else that could keep the flame alive at that point. It was kept for far too long.
Hope that helped.
@@Bladings It makes sense for the past lords, but there one inconsistency: Gwyn. Gwyn, Soul of Cinder in second phase, wanted to keep the flame alive.
I thought that the undead of DS2 never went for the fire?
@@General_C Yeah that's right. Bearer of the Curse only sought a way to break the curse, although he/she had the choice of accepting or forsaking the throne.
I don't know if you intended this, but him looking up at the Dark Signed Sun while dieing was *perfect* !
4:00
Beautiful end
🥲
I was looking for this comment wish i could like it 100 times
Very sad tbh
That shit made me cry ngl… imagine gazing upon something you’ve sacrificed so much for to prolong as you die. This is why I love fromsoft fantasy games, they don’t do anything cliche like all the other fantasy franchises, they hit you in the feels while being creative at the same time…
Gwyns theme is really just the neat little bow that wraps the trilogy up so perfectly. I love the series so much .Thank god i was born to experience these games when they came out.
I noticed that the Soul of Cinder takes more damage in phase 2
Final stand
He actually has over 2000 HP less than in Phase 1, so not really
I’ve noticed some bosses have an “all out” phase two in from soft games. They’re more aggressive and deal more damage but take more damage two.
@@williamhanna9718 yeah like in elden ring with godfrey.
Phase 1 about 6.7k health and phase 2 is about 4k health
The flame burns so weakly that it doesn't even pain. At best, it feels like a feeble, warm breeze. Only then does the Ashen One realize the folly of their action, but it's too late to go back.
They settle in, and wait for the next champion, the cycle began anew once again. Though the flame is weak, it still burns, slowly, surely, and the Ashen One's armor will be melted beyond all recognition by the time the next champion reaches the Kiln.
I personally think soul of cinder the the perfect standard boss. Theres no real bullshit with him. Its cinematic, nostalgic and hard but requires you to learn the move set and take your time.
Its also a melee boss and not a coward he'll hunt you down. Also looks intimidating as fuck.
Literally wouldnt change a thing about it.
Elden beast can fuck off thats a dreadful final boss, radagons alright tho
My second nemesis in DS3 right next to the Nameless king.
One of the greatest boss fights of all time
The Nameless King was a real pain in the as$ while Soul of Cinder felt more forgiving to be honest.
@@el_gatoNegro For me, both bosses were so difficult that I had to struggle with them for several weeks
For me, Soul of Cinder was one of the rare bosses I beat on the first try. Kinda regretted it, because the music was so amazing.
However, the Nameless King killed me so many times I gave up and came back later. The only harder boss than him was Midir, he took me around 100 times probably
@@ttst3 And they both killed me many times and I tormented them for several days, especially the Nameless King
soul of cinder was kinda easy bc of his moveset but I really enjoyed the fight, on the opposite the nameless king was just hard and boring
it's still is as beautiful as the day it ended
After ER I realized how little damage Soul of cinder does. You can tank like 7 attacks and be fine, in Elden Ring 1 attack with 60 vigor would do a third of your health.
It's due to him being more agile they needed to lower it's damage compared to gywn, not to mention you can grind and get op armour if you mass uppgrade it
@@cideltacommand7169 What? I'm talking about Elden Ring not Ds1
@@youtubewanderer3347 oh bruh moment
I guess Morgott is just soul of cinder then
@@youtubewanderer3347 cringe
I love how the first plin plin plon is timed to the Gwyn combo so cool
This boss isnt maybe that hard but jesus the Fight ist just amazing and i love it!
That feels like a throwback to ds1. Final boss wasnt as hard as I thought. They are dying, almost entirely burnt up. Before becoming kindled they were probably 10x stronger, but after god knows how many years they are a shadow of their former self.
"isn't maybe that hard"?😅😂
that's what i said, until i fought him
He is hard, he has so many different moves
People who say this boss isn't hard definitely are overleveled
Man, must be nice to have a final boss fight that is actually fair and doesn't take half your health bar in one hit, even with 70 vigor.
bring a dress to the lady
That's what I was thinking. Been playing through Elden Ring again and damage post-Leyndell is so poorly balanced. I was thinking, "maybe it's always been this way and I just don't remember?" Nope. It's never been that way, Elden Ring is just sadism in Froms part.
I like to imagine the Soul of Cinder is fighting you not as a test, but because it genuinely doesn't want you to link the fire again.
Every single soul who has been consumed by the First Flame is desperately trying to stop you from continuing this curse. They want the cycle to stop. Let the fire die. No more.
It makes me wonder if they felt relief upon being killed. I don't know if they felt relief at the suffering ending or horror that they failed
@@lishishur293
Kinda similar to Gehrman I think. Gehrman tries his hardest to defeat you to make sure you don’t have to endure the suffering he goes through. But once he dies he’s obviously relieved that his suffering ends. Besides, there not much he can do once his successor surpasses him. I think it’s the same with SOC. They obviously don’t want you to win but are fine with losing.
@bolson42 True. Both desperately trying to spare you from making the same mistake they did. But when they die they can finally feel relief and be at peace that they at least tried
"Then again most of y'all are stupid enough to do it in the first place, so here I go~"
Thats how i always interpreted it too.
It's very clear throughout the game that the Lords of Cinder all foresook their thrones because they knew that Kindling the Flame wasnt worth it at all, and that the Age of Fire is LONG past its due date.
The 'Link the Fire' ending encapsulates this too. If you link the Fire at the end of Dark Souls 1, your body erupts into a spectacular eruption of flame. It's clear during that ending that the First Flame is well and truly burning brightly once again, and the Age of Fire will continue on (for better or for worse)
But, at the end of DS3, there is no spectacular lightshow. You simply come over with a soft flame, barely even noticable against the red sky in the background, as the Unkindled One rests atop the ashes of the untold thousands of others who Linked the Flame before them.
Souls newb here, just beat this game for the first time. Such a memorable fight even if he wasn’t particularly difficult
have you played souls 1 though
@@Flare2V Wes don't tell him, let him figure it out on his own.

Soundtrack is so epic in this fight.
The fucking shot right here when he dies is just gorgeous, gwyn’s soul along with the other souls yelling in defeat and failure as he gazed into the eclipse and fades 3:59
The soundtrack/score in this game is utterly amazing.
That part that says "Tananaaam nanaaam (...) Plin Plin Plom" had me crying
Every move that he did made me think “hey, that’s from Elden Ring”
he literally pulled out comet azure
Yes, Elden Ring is literally Dark Souls 4 without the gloom and with more crappy boss tricks.
Other way around, more like "hey thats from darksouls"
If this was ER he would do double the damage.
@@youtubewanderer3347 and SOC would have 6x the health.
Jury's out on if that's a bad thing though. I'd love to take this guy on in Elden Ring.
Brings back memories
man, you hit that transition perfectly. synced the music up and everything.
I just noticed in 2nd phase of soul of Cinder's he is now using the fighting style of lord of Cinder's in ds1 but he is using magics I guess the 2nd phase shows how strong the lord of Cinder's before he became the husk of his former glory
If you fuse with every shmuck who thinks they can be the next one to link the first flame you probably learn a trick or two.
Soul of Cinder actually uses Gwyn's moveset bc in this footage, you can see a grab attack is phase 2. Also lightning.
no it isn't. gwyn isnt the soul of cinder in ds1. the first lord of cinder is GWYN. hence his name being Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. the lord of cinder is a title. gwyn held it first because he was the first holder of a lord soul to offer himself as kindling to the flame. he and soul of cinder are not the same. just the same soul.
You beat it like it was nothing im amazed 👏
He was probably too high leveled tho, he's using midir's katana
There was a saying, that after Fire burns all and Ash covers the land, we move to a painting.
Perhaps tis the lands between?
say what u wanna say about elden ring. but for me nothing beats DS3 and BB atmosphere and music...whole other level
on my first play through on the second stage of this I was so unprepared for the game just to hit me with the “plin plin plon” that I fully just stopped for a moment which ended up getting me completely decked
That eclipse in the background... Griffith, is it you again?
i’m pretty sure that when the soul of cinder starts being acrobatic that’s the chosen undead with the darkwood grain ring ( i think that’s what it’s called) and the first one is just some other person who linked the fire, then ofc there’s gwyn
The most emotional part is the fact that it starts attacking like Gwyn when a part of his theme starts playing.
I just finished dark souls 3 yesterday 6 years later and this is because I just platinumed Elden ring last week, I played dark souls 3 way back and couldn't finish it but I just replayed it and finished it within a week, spectacular game
You platinumed elden ring? Jesus christ, dude..
@@MiniMagit it isn't that hard
What? How? I did the exact same thing , went back to DS3 this week after platinum-ing Elden ring. Here's to platinum DS3 !
@@yo1103 No it isn't compared to the other souls game
@@andthestars cheers mate!!
The Soul of Cinder is the not just the power of countless gods, lords and heroes as one, it is the sheer unending will to keep Flame alight, even if the world itself must burn first. Like the Elden Beast, it very much is the will of the order of the world, refusing to change unto the end of days. It is that will that must be overcome to determine the world’s destiny.
The destiny of a world that is nothing but ash, all of its inhabitants being cinder
The destiny of a world that is nothing but ash, all of its inhabitants being cinder
I noticed in Phase 2 Soul of cinders attacks are very similar to that of gwyn lord of cinder except for that Soul of cinder uses lightning spears on top of that.
the way he has the chosen undead movements gives me chills
because, you"re literally fighting against yourself, who took Gwyn place in the first flame, and now, you're doing AGAIN, what you have made a long time ago...

When I Fought this guy in level 1 I really felt frustrared but In My birthday I could beat him, Epicness and unforgatable moment in my live.
SL1 run made this far better imo
I heard somewhere that soul of cinder is actual the player from DS1 if he chose to link the fire instead of becoming the dark lord.

Actually up against Soul of Cinder in NG+7 now. I'll update you guys as to how many times it'll take me to kill the man with my greatsword.
(Final edit: It took me 114 deaths to take down the big man alone with my greatsword. It's been a long journey.)
Good job :)
Dont rely on strong weapons and high damage learn dodges and timing it will be much easier.
I've never played a Dark Souls game in NG+ before. Even when knowing a boss's moveset, do high NG+ levels really make a boss that much more difficult?
@@hydroshock1853 They do higher damage and get higher health, but give more souls as well, if you know the moveset you should be fine.
@@Endivero Good to know. Plus, this is one of the bosses where I won't be mad if I get beaten.
A flamed champion fighting to protect the flame as you know to usher the age of darkness will make the world reborn
i played dark souls 1 for the first time this year, beat it, and my friend told me to play ds3 next. i did not expect this to be the final boss at all. when gwyn's theme started playing and i recognized the familiar movements i actually got chills from this bossfight. really glad i played the games in the order that i did
I love how well they made the comebacks to the old games fit so well into the lore
Ds1: Hurry, Chosen one! The flame must burn on!
Ds3: Please… just stop.
That was beautiful, SoC looked up at the eclipse as he was dying like "WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN MEEEEEE URGH"
It's cool that SoC has Gwyn's death animation/pose: opens his arms screaming then falls on his knees looking at the sky/sun then head slumps.
Such a great fight! My favorite video game boss fight of all time actually
You'd rank soul of cinder above Gael? Gael is definitely harder, but I thought the fight itself was a lot more memorable and exciting... Although part of that might be the number of attempts I needed to beat him. Soul of cinder was beaten on my third try.

Finished the DLC today and this guy still remains as the most perfect boss for me. He has literally everything to make him a perfect fight. The music, lore, boss design, variety in moveset, emotion, difficulty (not too hard but def not the easy one) and every aspect links together really well to make us have a bigger picture of this boss.
I see Sekiro style of boss fight. Only katana and right timing, nice work dude.
Is that the Faraam Armor?
Best looking armor in my opinion.
Didnt know it was in Dark Souls 3.

It would be soo awesome if Elden Lord Tarnished v.s Chosen Undead Soul of Cinder
Gwyn theme original PTSD music before Malenia
It surprises me that he is on the game cover and i didnt notice it

When you see him do that jump attack and the Plin plin plon starts...
that plin plin plon hits hard......
What is the lore of the Soul of Cinder, because he doesn’t seem much more intimidating than the Elemer of the Briar from Elden Ring and I’ve never played Dark Souls 3
Edit: I played Dark Souls 3…holy, fucking, christ in heaven…this was the greatest narrative experience I’ve ever had in my entire life
It was so much more than an intense battle, so much more than just some flaming warrior
An amalgamation of the souls within the First Flame
The souls of Gwyn, the Chosen Undead, and everyone who came to link the fire afterwards
What a fitting end to the trilogy, pretty much ending where we began
I also remember the Kiln of the First Flame in DS1, there was a lot of ash, but not nearly as much as what we see in 3
Gwyn’s fear…it destroyed the world…the fear of the dark killed hope…killed the world itself
I’ve had a few choices in mind for if I ever get a tattoo, the Elden Ring, the Triforce, or even just no tattoo at all
I have to do it, I have to get the Darksign
Nice video👍👍😀
I was given the “Prepare to Cry” rebuff once I heard Plin Plin Plon

If SoC just stayed in its Pyro Curved Sword form, and purely using the Curved Sword, it'd be the hardest boss of DS games. Pyro has almost no openings, fastest moveset, no telegraphing of attacks and jumps back after each combo, leaving no time for player to counter attack.

Am i the only one that had no problems with most of the bosses in the game, but had a extremely hard time with this one? It took me 6 hours to beat him.
In general, your experience does not have to be the same as others. For me, this boss wasn't the most difficult, but was difficult enough. And there are bosses across the trilogy as well as Demon's Souls and Bloodborne that have been said to be easy but I struggled with them.
Conversely, some bosses have been said by the community to be very difficult, and I usually do find them a challenge, but not to the extent they were made out to be. For instance, it took me more attempts to beat Abyss Watchers than Slave Knight Gael, which would be considered lunacy by the average community virgin.
Yes, I say virgin because chads wouldn't take it so hard and understand it's my experience and my experience alone.
